Knicks · Do we HAVE to trade Melo? Who is he blocking? (page 1)

93BUICK @ 6/30/2017 8:18 PM
If he wants to be here, familyman etc, instead of buyout/press narrative etc
before free agency-

Ron Baker/ Frank N
C Lee/ Dotson
Melo/ Lance/ Kuz
KP / K OQ
Noah/Willy or Willy/Noah

Add a good PG vet in FA- it's a good buyer year w so many FA and high level rookie signings we could actually get someone sensible like Teague , Mills , Hill, Holiday.... I feel like our best move is to do less... Teague/ Baker/ Frank N is so much better than Rose/Jennings/Baker for this group it could change the whole thing.

sometimes u just need a clean break. and we need just that with him. a clean break, new start.
Vmart @ 6/30/2017 8:27 PM
There is no demand for Melo. There never was why he couldn't recruit.
CrushAlot @ 6/30/2017 8:40 PM
The Knicks shouldn't do a stupid trade to move Melo and they shouldn't buy him out. If nothing comes up revisit the situation at the deadline. Also, it would be nice to see Melo play in a different system with a decent point guard if the Knicks bring one in.
93BUICK @ 6/30/2017 8:52 PM
Thank you! Couldn't agree more. Let him help while we grow. Drop the narrative. He said he wants to stay let him show it.

I have no interest in seeing Melo play on the Knicks. I think he is a cancerous presence. He is sullen, unsophisticated, one track minded uncapable of sustained change. There really is nothing at all to be gained by playing him. I would rather have a high draft pick.

Unfortunately, he is the best donkey's ass on this team. This was also the best move for the team when he was signed in '14. The biggest drawback was the NTC. Now everyone is in favor of a buyout to rid his cancerous presence from the team. No, put his ass to work. If a trade that's beneficial to the team comes up, so be it. If not, let him play his contract thru the year. By 18-19 season, he'll be ready to opt out. Contrary to popular belief, money does not grow on trees.

Melo command starting, minimum 20-25 shots, holding the ball minimum 10-15 min per game.
His goal is score as much points as possible regardless of efficiency.
So if all this is what we want lets use him another 2 years or whatever time left until he will break down.

Do this for what? You think we're beating the Warriors for a championship? The smartest thing to do right now is tank for a top 5 pick in next years draft. We need to be focused on the Sixers and Bucks by making sure that we are in a position to compete with them in the 2020's. I agree that we dont have to buyout Melo, but just sit his ass on the bench. Its his career that is winding down,he will relent and open his options for a trade.

From Ed Begley ESPN:

The Knicks and Rockets touched base recently on a trade involving Carmelo Anthony, per league sources, but they didn't gain much traction. One name that came up in talks was Ryan Anderson, per sources. But the Knicks said at that time that they weren't interested in Anderson, who has been shopped around by the Rockets. Anthony has a no-trade clause but the Rockets would seem to be an attractive destination for him because of the presence of good friend Chris Paul.

Well six years of data says this donkeys ass is exactly what we don't need. 17 win seasons result in high draft picks, 37 win seasons are what the Knicks call "win now".

The Knicks are 5 years behind in the rebuild dept behind Sixers, bucks, and Twolves. And with their impatience, closing that gap will never happen. I just don't think Dolan has it in him to build through the draft. Let's stop blaming the fans. The fish stinks from the head down.

Yeah, nothing to be gained but maybe seeing the only player on the team capable of 20 ppg.

Wow, you've raised your bid to a high draft pick? I thought you would have settled for a game-worn Gallinari jersey?

Once again, the Hinkie-oid brilliance of winning a chip, or spending years playing with ping pong balls.
So this is what it's come down to; play 82 games as shittily as possible every year in the hope that in 5 or 10 or possibly 15 years you can compete. How much have you enjoyed the last 5 years of Sixer basketball?

Lottery dreaming; front running replacement worldview for those with too much pride to just go buy a GS hat or a Lebron jersey...

TheGame @ 7/4/2017 4:09 PM
I would trade Melo if we get a first round pick without taking on a bad contract. Otherwise, I would keep him on the team. There is a decent chance he opts out next summer and that will open up a max salary slot for us.

IMHO, a "bad contract" can take two distinct forms

A "toxic contract" like Bargnani. Who is both overpaid and useless as any kind of positive on your team. Likely an injury history, off the court problems, discipline problems, lousy team mate, poor work ethic, etc, etc. These are the kind of things that add onto an overpaid player who doesn't offer talent or upside.

Then there is simply an "overpaid" player, like a Joe Johnson on the Hawks making 100 million plus bucks. He's a useful player, a good player, but he simply is not worth as much as his paycheck given actual market forces at work.

Anderson is OVERPAID. He is not useless. He's a good team mate and will and can play actual team basketball.

If my options are some variation of a deal for Austin Rivers, or Tristan Thompson or Ryan Anderson, I'd go with Anderson. He'll at least space the floor and give full effort and won't stop the ball.

It's not a great deal, but it's infinitely better than nothing. If the goal is to build around Porzingis and make him the "franchise player", then you need to feed him the ball, which is not going to happen with Melo on the roster ( Ntilikina's agent is Leon Rose. Who do you think he's going to pass the ball to on the Knicks?)

Personally I think they should dump Zinger in a trade, but if the purpose here is to retain his goodwill (Ugh...f**k Zinger) by the front office, Anderson is simply a much better fit. Overpaid, but a fit.

I don't think folks here really understand what Melo is going to do. Ball stop. Sulk. Attack everyone in the press. Basically make everyone miserable everywhere until the Knicks buy him out at 100 percent and he goes and ring chases somewhere. He's like a married woman who isn't hot anymore, but knows in a divorce, she's going to gut you anyway financially. So why try? Why cook? Why clean? Why give anyone a blowjob? Just sit on the couch, eating Bon Bons and watching reality shows like a stupid whore.

The Knicks married the wrong whore. That whore's name is Melo.

Anderson is the aging fat chick with sh*tty credit and too many tattoos and would really settle for anyone with a pulse and a pension. But at least he's the version of the fat chick with lousy credit and horrible unicorn tattoos that would swallow. And sometimes, that's all you can ask for. This is all the Knicks can ask for.

As James Franco said in This Is The End - "He's got to gooo. Hes. Got. Tooooooo. Goooooooo."

We didn't have cap space to recruit during his 1st 4 years here. The landscape of the league has significantly changed since then. Cap space is rarely an issue and collusion is prevalent. Players don't have the desire to deal with the circus here.

If the match rule wasn't in place, you are lying to yourself if you think a team wouldn't take Melo on his current deal for a couple years in a league where Otto Porter is making 26 mil a year. It is time for the Knicks to move on, but NY would be a more inviting place to play if fans occasionally accepted reality.
