Knicks · Question: If we are OK with buying out our best player. Why a not buy out broken down Noah? (page 3)

I dont know what the right play is... but I do know there is a clear downside/backfire to Melo that doesnt exist with Noah.
Noah has a lot of pride. I expect him to be able to help, if only in a limited role. Ideally we start him next to KP, he's a ball mover, defender and a ton setter and we get 65-70 games and 18-20mpg from him. If we get that you will see the positives he brings.
'self explanatory if your using that type of bias. We both know you have supported Noah since the begining and somehow still find a way to say he is a positive. Just not a fact in any way. Noah has had minimal or no impact during the last 3 seasons. To expect him to change that is low probability. Again, how does he help us in the locker room? By letting everyone sign the get well soon cards? We can get several vets at vets minimum to take that role. Btw, your saying Melo will hurt the youth movement but in the next paragraph you placing Noah in the starting line up over Willy?
As for Melo. Fact is, there are no players on this team nor recent teams claiming Melo is a "cancer to the team? He is a guy that leads us in scoring every year. Is one year removed from leading us in dimes and scoring. Does he hold the ball? Yes Does he force it at times? Yes. Best defender? No. Should he be considered for a buyout and not Noah? No way.
Truth is, neither would be or should be bought out by a smart team. As your getting no value. Reason why i am saying, if they really are considering being that stupid, why not Noah? Reason I had a problem with Phil suggesting it and yet pushing his free agent dud behind the curtain.
I never said Noah is a positive. Thats you trying to twist words to fit your point which I disagree with. Also "always supporting" the Noah move? The only thing I have always said is there was reason behind it, plenty of reasons in fact. Did I endorse it? No. Did I think it a disaster? No. Because unless Noah is completely broken down he will be a positive presence. Melo has shown that is not always the case. A few times in fact. While here.
Hey... he's been really good after quitting. So maybe we get to see a Post-MDA now I want to play hard for Woody Melo. That would be amazing to be honest. So would having Jessica Alba lick my taint. The Alba scenario is more plausible. Just calling it like I see it. Few have supported Melo around here as much over the years as I have. That being said I dont support a buyout and I want no part of Ryan Anderson. If its one of those options I would rather pray he shows up herpes free for training camp
Think we agree on most. Never liked the Noah/Triangle signing. But don't agree Melo is the "Cancer" or this organization or "Main" problem. As we see by Thjr possible signing and fans thinking it is good to resign a guy for $18 they thought was not worth a bean bag 3 years ago, there is alot wrong with this franchise.
TheGame wrote:Why pay Noah not the play. We probably will trade Quinn at some point, we will Noah as a backup. Plus, in two years Noah's contract will turn into an asset as an expiring contract.
Only Noah's agent thinks he MAY be an asset any time in this century. He will be waived in last year of his deal or contract dumped in a trade. Not exactly an asset. Hope he proves me wrong.

OK but then Noah is healthy like half as often as Melo. So the math doesn't work!
Don't bother him with things like facts. It harshes his mellow (see what I did there?)
And I suppose when Noah's missing seasons and getting banned for substances, that's living up to some other idiotic % of his salary.
Made up percentages. Holy shit.

The question was why Melo and why not Noah, the answer was
Melo's value = (1.0*40%*25.0MM) - 25.0MM = -15 MM/year
Noah's value = (0.5*85%*13.5MM) - 13.5MM = -7.8MM/year approx
Assuming Noah plays only 41 games each season on avg and Melo plays 82Melo is about twice as bad as Noah each year
And assuming (great verb for this post) your dopey percentages actually mean anything to anyone who isn't related to Mardy Collins and doesn't own a dead dog that Melo's limo ran over.

To answer the question, just donating Melo would make the team worse, which IMO is better than being the 8th seed. Noah is worth having around since the cap floor is really high now. No point in moving the contract when you are required under the CBA to spend the money.

Noah's history makes him a bad gamble.
Positive presence? In a suit? Where do I read or see Noah organizing anything with the team? Other than a blurb from KP about leadership at the beginning of the season that the coaching staff ignored, apparently. This is what we have:
Noah, after a spotty few months in which his defense slipped and his offense often was nonexistent, suffered the same hamstring injury in early February that wrecked his preseason. He never returned. He eventually needed arthroscopic knee surgery. Then came the drug ban. Followed by the revelation his shoulder, which he hurt in January, needed surgery.
His history? His history elsewhere is all he's got going for him. Right now, he's at best an insanely overpriced double digit rebounder, which is offset by stupid banned substances and the worst offensive game we've seen since Chris Dudley.
We have a broken down 32 year-old albatross on one of the worst contracts since Jon Koncak. Who's apologizing for banned substances. And provided next to nothing, other than fond memories of Robin Lopez and commercials for Phil's triangles.
And he's a positive presence, while Melo is not. KP's blurbs about Melo apparently mean sheehit, I guess.

That's great. You're my favorite poster named fishmike, too. I think Melo quit on Rambis too, that would be 3. How many coaches did Noah have in Chicago?
By the way, Fred Hoiberg says hello. He liked reading about how Noah was moving on.
Joakim Noah reportedly revealed to a teammate he would be leaving the organization and signing elsewhere in free agency this summer, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. The unnamed Bulls player told Cowley that Noah said he "has no trust in the front office getting this in the right direction" and that many players don't trust general manager Gar Forman.
How many preseason Knick get-togethers and informal workouts has Noah organized? Melo's count is at least 3. Noah's count is 0.
I really like this math.

Bad Noah: Moves ball, elite passing big man, great defender, excellent rebounder, doesnt need ball to beeffective.Pretty simple. Bad Melo is a team cancer and a coach killer. Bad Noah is just not a good basketball player, but has no negative impact on the team.
Noah's contract stinks, but he's either dead weight or he helps us. Bad Melo will hurt the youth development and as he's disgruntled will seek allies and be a divisive force. That is the downside which we have seen on more than one occasion. Can the Knick's afford that?
I dont like it myself, hated it at first but after second look I see their thinking. We will see if their thinking is right or not and what other moves follow this. In my experience anytime you are waiting for "the next move" with the Knicks you will be sorely disappointed.
Noah's history makes him a bad gamble.

I really like this math.
Boss: You are no longer productive. You are overpaid. You have not been able to work with management. You are trying to rally other employees against management. We have to let you go.
Fishmike: But sir... not twice, but three times I organized group outings to the bar! Remember how much fun that cornhole tourney was?
Boss: My bad... you right. Good job with the math!
By the way... Melo LOVES Tim Hardaway. That makes this a great signing for the Knicks right? You must be on cloud nine if your hero approves

Amazing how your math works
Quitting on Coaches = -3
Playing 29 whole effing games for a 72 million dollar contract = equilibrium, positivity
Scoring more points = -2
Getting caught using banned substances = nice way to stop stinking up the place, more positivity by enhancing the importance of apologizing for a negative example!
And as far as THJ is concerned, as long as KornHoleZinger is on board and doesn't skip any entry meetings this season, i'm good to go! WTF needs a defensive 2 anyway, we need a .350 3 point shooter!
