How is Rudy Gay "elite" backup? even at his best he wasn't great (craptors started soaring after they traded him for nothing). Now he has an achilles tear- what players have recovered from that and not been reduced to being a shadow of their former selves?
You have to have the foundation to win, then when something happens, like suddenly Westbrook decides to join in to against KD, or suddenly Curry is injured and out of the season, it will be your chance.

He is only elite as a backup on a contending team. He is volume scorer, but unlike THJR on theKnicks he is what the spurs needed. Aldridge can't carry the load with Kwahi down, Gay can still score that's the thing they need most.
