Melo is rushing a new hat to mark the occasion.

Only two ways for Melo to end up on the Cavs.

He becomes disruptive and defiant enough where the Knicks buy him out ( aka the Keyshawn on the Jets riot act) and he signs the vet minimum to join Cleveland

OR

The Knicks take a deal with Tristan Thompson and Iman Shumpert, with Melo and O'Quinn going to the Cavs (other smaller bits and pieces would have to move, but that would be the core of it)

LeBron James, aka LeGM, is truly an idiot when it comes to running his teams personnel. He's 50 Shades of just plain stupid. Trading for Melo would be a horrific move to push the contention narrative, then again, he did push to have Thompson get paid up the yang to stay on the Cavs in the first place.

There is some movie a few decades back, bizarre as crap. Tommy Lee Jones, right after winning an Oscar for The Fugitive, started getting leading "blockbuster" type summer roles. He was in a volcano in LA movie. Where the lava was flowing, and Jones stopped it with broken off seasons of free way dividers and hoses from firetrucks. ( I guess in this universe, gases don't exist....I digress) He's US Marshal! And he's stopping a volcano!

The frustrated bizarre "please just pay me now" look by Jones on screen, this is how Tyrone Lue will look when the Cavs run out Love, Irving, Calderon, Korver and Melo on the court at the same time and see no semblance of any kind of modern NBA defense happen. I think Korver would be the best defender on the floor then. How sad is that statement for a contender?

Erik Spolestra made a deal with LBJ in Miami, which likely saved his own job. He told LBJ, as long as you defend at an elite level, and get the other guys to do that, you can do whatever you want on offense. Whatever you want. He realized, and Riley probably knew this to start, that LBJ can't actually play actual team basketball. He's so elite, he can go ISO heavy whenever he wants, and needs bail out shooters around him. Melo can help as they can take turns going into ISO and killing teams in transition. ( In this instance, if Melo has the choice to pass or run more of the court, he'll pass, it's less work in transition.)

I wonder if Melo or LBJ are both dumb enough to think they can stop flowing lava with concrete and garden hoses? Yes, I think they are that freaking stupid.

My take is the hold up is to prevent Knicks fans from having heart attacks (that would be liable due to an excessively high frequency of irrational basketball moves in a short period of time) - Phil fired, Frank selected after Phil fired, Hardaway Jr charitable contract, Baker resigned with remaining room... they probably want to give us time to digest all this before informing us of more bad news (eg we take R.Anderson instead of getting Harkless and picks). Gosh I hope I'm wrong but this makes sense to me!

Chris Paul intro press conference is apparently scheduled for Friday -- wonder if that timing may have any impact on this potential deal.

- maybe not wanting to take any attention away from Paul
- maybe making a deal Wed/Thur and Melo joins Paul at his presser
