It'll be interesting to see what happens with a 3rd team. I don't see how it gets done unless NY either takes a bad contract or gives up a minor asset so they don't have to. Houston has basically got 10 million or so in unguaranteed deals too, but maybe they move Ariza and Anderson to Portland, Portland moves a number one and stuff to the Knicks and the Knicks move Carmelo to Houston.

So Portland gets Anderson and Ariza for Harkless, a number one and filler.
Houston gets Melo for Ariza, getting rid of Anderson and non-guaranteed deals.
Knicks get Harkless, the non-guaranteed deals from Houston which they can then cut for space, the Portland 1, and other young players to fill in the money.

Portland does this because they immediately get 2 starting-quality forwards to go with their backcourt and improve their team even with the bad deals they gave to Crabbe and Turner.

New York moves melo for a young player and a number one without taking the bad deal.

Houston gets Melo, who takes the SF spot from a Ariza anyway.

I don't know how the rest works out money-wise but every team has a reason to take that.

Thats not bad. I would say I think thjr is going to be even better then his second half with the hawks. Borderline all star, people will say wow what a steal .

For melo, getting a talent like harkless who has gotten better every year is a plus defensive player, and a first ! Plus I think we get Leonard to make it work.

KP,oquin, Noah
Willy,Leonard
Moe,lance,kuz
Thjr,lee,Dotson
Rondo,Frank,baker

I think we move lee for a pick and maybe oquinn. I also think that team makes the playoffs which sucks cause it's a team that just makes the playoffs with a first round exit.

This is why I think we role with just frank and baker at the pg spot. I think adding a talent like rondo would put us over the top. I want a top 5 pick it will really help our future !

Don't know who he is but I saw this at clutchfans. Those guys are great at dissecting everything and it seems they like this guy.

SocraticBallin22 @ 7/10/2017 3:24 PM
BTW, Harkless and a 1st rounder? Where do I sign up for that right now? That would be a decent haul, considering his no trade and only going to 2 teams. Harkless is another young, improving player with upside.

don't both. Near impossible.

"im hearing"..........This is a kid. Im sure a good kid, good fan, devot and well intended, but he "hears" rumors via media.

Harkless was rumored to be waived. Still if its Harkless and a pick and no terrible contracts that would be great. Hell, I would take Harkless and a pick and call it a day. Thats a huge salary dump. That being said there is nothing interesting about Harkless, and if Leanard is the other guy we are getting back its crappy trade for the Knicks. Really crappy.

It could happen. Knicks are putting up the best player in the deal and both the Rockets and Portland are legit playoff teams so it's a later pick either in 2018 or 2020. Harkless is 24 and a good enough player to start at SF and if we draft Porter or Doncic come off the bench as a contributor.

I wonder if the Rockets could absorb Leonard and give the Knicks enough space to sign Rondo and maybe another young player.

Its impossible from a cap standpoint. Houston and Portland are over.

More players HAVE to be moved to make the cap math work. And neither team has any attractive deals.

He has a website. It says he writes for Knicks Daily and was supposed to graduate from college this past May.

I tested this trade and it works:

Melo to Houston.

Anderson to the Blazers.

Mo Harkless, Ed Davis, Quarterman and Onuaku to Knicks with 1st rounder.

Harkless is owed 10 mill for 2 more years--not a bad contract for a 24 yr old who can start at small forward and had his best season last year to add to our young core 4.

Davis, Quarterman expiring. We would shed close to 20 million in salary after this year with Melo off the books with Mo and a 1st rounder.

Also, we can waive Davis (though I like him as a player) and Quarterman and open up 8 mill this year to sign a vet pg.

Let's do it!

yea thats gonna be it with or without the picks. That trade makes a ton of sense. We get a 3/4 type player back. Harkless is a long 6'7 tall but 7'+ wingspan type. He could certainly help the defense. I dont know much about his BB IQ. I didnt see much of the Blazers and when I was sure as well wasnt focused on Harkless.

First round pick, decent role player, tons of cap flexibility... this would feel like a clean break. Like a buyout with some modest compensation

Knicks want Melo to go...

Melo has a limited # of teams he wants to go to

A limited # of teams want Melo

Melo has a contract that gives him great power over any trade

This might just be the best offer we have on the table...Our leverage is limited.

Then there's the idea that the non guaranteed contracts can be flipped to make room for Rondo.... That's a playoff team... a bunch of hardworking young guys being directed by Rondo? That's gong ti be fun to watch

Portland does this why?

Not even mentioning, no, you can' waive Davis.

His contract is guaranteed.

They're a capped out team who couldn't pursue any free agents this summer and they like Anderson as a stretch 4 to add to their dynamic backcourt of Lillard and CJ. They're a playoff team trying to win now.

smackeddog @ 7/10/2017 4:53 PM
Someone on clutchfans said that the talks are now expanding to a fourth team (to take on Meyers), which would make sense- Anderson to blazers, meyers and harmless to us, we then dump meyers for a pick or something.

That's very wishful thinking that a tiny market club already with the highest payroll in the NBA is going to extend their luxury tax pain two more years thinking Ryan Anderson will be a significant factor for them in the west, particularly considering they'll be helping a team that finished above them this season along the way.
