My educated guess is that that Mills/Dolan would not allow him to clean house and bring in his own staff for the position. Knicks are a joke. How can you expect an established and well respected GM with winning experience to NOT want to bring in his own guys as GM? How many regimes will these guys survive, as the organization continues to be run to the ground? Unbelievable. This franchise just can't get out of its own way.

exactly

...it means they want to retain the same MSG guys... Mills, Houston, etc
Its certainly never money

smackeddog @ 7/9/2017 4:16 PM
Dolan wants to keep his chief yes man as president, and to keep all his other yes men on staff. Basically they just want a yes man GM like Mills was for Phil, just like their yes man coach. I suspect Alan Houston will be it. No outsider is coming to work in that situation.

All those clueless people calling for Phils head- he was the only one who could defy Dolan. Now we're back to Dolan and his yes men

Welpee @ 7/9/2017 4:19 PM
Dolan just lost the kudos he earned for canning Phil.
nyknickzingis @ 7/9/2017 4:20 PM
Some were arguing against me this morning about this
Knicks want to keep Mills, Gaines, Houston

They just want a figure head
Who will take the heat

Sort of what Phil did all three years

They don't really want change as they have a plan a plan set up by Phil and the current front office

They essentially want someone who has to deal with the media and take the heat

Welpee @ 7/9/2017 4:22 PM
No credible GM candidate would accept the gig under these circumstances so just set up the organization from within and keep it moving. That's what they want to do anyway.
Paris907 @ 7/9/2017 4:23 PM
It meant that Mills was out and Dolan and Mills couldn't buy in.

The reason was that they couldn't come to terms with what Griffins exact role with the team would be is what's being reported. So this is Mills trying to take too much control over the roster/personel which is just stupid cause you have to let the GM build the team.

Had nothing to do with Dolan. Griffin hasn't even had his meeting with Dolan yet. This is Mills trying to keep control of the team.

We don't need another regime change... we need a guy that will help us along the path we're on. We need to rebuild through youth. Not rebuild through another guys eyes. I can't believe anyone would want a guy to come in an bring more goons in. We need to rebuild through youth. That's it. Fuck a dude that sucked Lebron dick for however many years he been there. Have some respect for yourself. Can't have just anybody come into your house. When the right guy comes in we will make a move. Until then fuck it. Stick to the plan

To those of you who were constantly hating on Phil Jackson without appreciating how he refused to trade #1 draft picks for quick fixes and drafted KP, Willy, Frank and Dotson are you having any regrets yet? Sure its easy to find fault with a GM/President when the team is in a rebuilding phase and has no draft picks to work with. Phil did a lot for the future of this team and now we have nobody good to replace him.
newyorker4ever @ 7/9/2017 4:28 PM
Why do people have to run to the message board to start a new thread? We have 3 threads about this started by 3 different people cause everyone is in such a hurry to be the first to start a thread like you're gonna win a prize or something...SMDH

Seriously, what did Griffin do that wasn't just acting on behalf of Lebron? Make me GM and give me Lebron. I'll look good too.

But he did more that hurt the future of the team.

Yeah but usually his defiance was even dumber than what Dolan would do!

Wasnt Gaines responsible for the draft success. I thought all Phil was listen to the recommendation. Lets not make Phil out to be more than what he is.

Mills already pulled off a signing that was better than any signings Phil did in 3 years. Sorry I don't want 15 mil on 33 year olds or overrated volume scorers. You'll just have to learn to accept that we won't have more Noahs and Melos. I see no indication that Mills is going to change the one thing Phil gets credit for (keeping his own picks). Since he's targeting youth, it seems quiet unlikely he would change this. Time will tell.

Mills signed an average player for well above average money. That's nothing to write home about.

It's better than signing aging below average players for all-star/superstar money! I only gave the signing a C/C+ but it's still better than what I'd expect from Phil.

Who says so? Gaines worked for Phil, didn't he? He was hired by Phil, wasn't he? Phil is the one who made the decision to draft those guys. He's the only one who could have because he was in charge.
