Knicks · Even if get crap for melo to Houston (not including Ryan Anderson) would you be ok with it? (page 1)

KP4Life @ 8/1/2017 4:47 PM
I just want melo off the damn team already. I'm already watching Doncic highlights. We need to tank another year. Forget Melo and Kyrie. Melo is just gonna kill the tank, instead of being in the lottery we will probably end up in the teens. It's not worth it, same with Kyrie. He can come in two years if he really wants to.
Solace @ 8/1/2017 5:08 PM
I don't think I could go along with that. We aren't going to get a player with that kind of talent for a long time. I'd like to get something promising in return. We'd be the laughing stock of the league (again) if we did this.

would you quit your job and depend on playing the lottery to pay your bills.

A couple more tank years and you will be changing your handle to KPTO2019

If youre not just a KP fan, but a Knicks fan as well, you should want a deal that wont hamstring the franchise for years, like the Ewing trade did. Maybe you are too young to remember.

The idea is to build a team that will make KP want to stay, a crappy deal for Melo wont accomplish that.

Welpee @ 8/1/2017 9:27 PM
While I agree that Melo needs to be moved at this point, I don't see the rush in making it happen or that we should accept a bad deal just to make it happen. While it doesn't serve our purposes to keep Melo on the roster next season the reality is we're probably not making the playoffs next year anyway, with or without Melo. However, Houston (based on their interest in Melo) must feel he can be the difference between just making the playoffs and making a deep run.

Houston needs Melo more than we need to trade Melo. The Knicks (for once) just need to be patient and take advantage of both Melo and Houston's sense of urgency.

What's wrong with keeping Melo as a 28 minute 6th man?

It makes sense from a basketball standpoint. I can't see Melo playing nice with that though.

TLover @ 8/1/2017 11:09 PM
Tell you what.. I'd take on Ryan Anderson if they take on Noah.

Melo & Noah works for Anderson, Ariza, Gordan & 1st rounder for me.

TLover @ 8/1/2017 11:31 PM
Shoot I'd take Capela over the first rounder.

Melo and KP are both best at the 4. One of them being 6th man might be the best thing for the team. Melo needs his minutes limited and KP is injury prone. But they are the two best players on the team. JVG could make this work. Not sure if Jeff can.
TLover @ 8/1/2017 11:41 PM
Melo at the 4 & KP at the 5 with a defensive stud at the 3 is the way to go.

Although think Melo is done playing for the Knicks.

Whatever... So over what Melo wants that it's ridiculous. Let's see who can hold their breath the longest...

Management wanted him gone for most of the last year. He would be a clipper if doc didn't pull out of that deal. I think Melo is finally done with the Knicks but would rather stay then go someplace in transition again(cavs). He is a Knick or a rocket.

How long are you and 1248 going to keep pretending you don't grasp the premise that 25 wins is better than 35 wins?

I think he was saying keeping melo compared to getting a crap deal that would kill any financial flexibilty in the foreseeable future.

The OP specifically omitted Ryan Anderson. I understood the premise was not taking back three years or more of salary.

TLover @ 8/2/2017 2:30 AM
Think the Knicks are still in drivers seat with Houston being only suitor.
Both the Rockets & Melo want this to happen bad.
The Knicks can sit back & play poker threatening to keep him after all.

Knicks can insist the Rockets take back Noah while we get Capela (who we could flip to Cavs in Kyrie deal); while we also get contributing players in Anderson, Gordan & Ariza (who all could eventually be moved)

We won 25 games with Melo. Put Melo in a smaller role and focus on team development. There is no deal with Houston-- they have zero-- nada. If melo can avg 15-17 off the bench with a better fg% in a 6 th man role-- maybe he raises his own value and opens up new trade venues at trade deadline. What's going on now is a fail-- it's a nothing. So accept a solid 6 th man role and develop the other guys-- case closed
