Good points. I think when you have a Korver type you simply MUST have that ball move and find him in rhythm!!! Shooters need shots and it's a waste to have him on the floor with Ball Hogs. This could be a great opportunity for DM to excel.

The thing with Korver is that he did a decent job of defending his position in his prime. I've seen the words "historically bad" used a few times to describe Doug on defense. I'd like to see him play too. But he's simply got to improve on that end of the floor to see any real minutes.
We have way too many SF's
For Doug to make an impact that garners PT his 3P% has to be above 40%. He doesnt do enough elsewhere--in this league he has to be a high% 3 point guy--I mean 40-45%--even then hes not really a 3 and D specialist.

I bet DM shoots a higher % this year seeing more touches in a faster Ball and Player Movement offense. As for his D it looks like he tries hard but had poor technique and understanding of defensive schemes. He was making poor decisions on D. Seems more mental than anything.
Folks are describing him as purely a 3-point specliast but I think he thrives off movement and the game clips earlier in this thread show him putting the ball on floor...hitting mid-range, +floaters plus numerous buckets off cuts. If Horny puts right system in place Doug will show versatile all-around game. If you go back and watch some Creighton games he is scoring all over the floor...sure it was college and he was focal point but kid knows how to score the ball.

YUP! There's potential there in a system with Ball and Player Movement. The team we have now is full of unselfish guys that play TEAM BALL.
Novak? His advanced stats are atrocious but can obviously shoot the three.
DM still has a chance to raise his game and this might be the best opportunity he's gonna get. Jeff's Uptempo Offense should give him plenty of opportunity to shine.

You expect too much from a coach. You also are emasculating the player. This is a man's league. Professional players. Everyone could use a little confidence and opportunity. Players talk a lot about guys believing in then when they succeed. They still have to go out and perform every night. 82 games plus 16 wins in the playoffs. Somewhere along the line the player has to take that initiative. Star players are star players regardless. If you can play you can play.

you would have never traded for this guy in your life time, now that he's here, you want to be super optimistic and act like he's better than he really is..

“I played him at the 4 in college,’’ Greg said. “I didn’t want him against the faster 3’s. He was such a good scorer, I didn’t want him in foul trouble so he wasn’t against the other team’s top forward. He understands defense. He understands he’s got to improve.’’
Could be dad being nice...but it is not uncommon for top scorers to be kept from defending the top scorer on the other team.
Melo was an example of someone who probably reduced his energy output on D so he could be a better offensive player. Not too many Jordans and Lebrons out there.
But McDermott really needs to make his improvements in the offseason, and build up his body for the defensive grind. Not sure he can do this during the season.
I see him as a 20-25 minute offensive change of pace guy who only stays on the court if he is effective on offense, unless he shows us things on D that he has not shown his other teams so far.
Rare to see guys like McDermott and Beasley change their games drastically on D. Hope they can, but these are players who put D aside in college because they were only asked to score, and maybe they are just not up to playing NBA quality D.
Hope I am wrong...especially about McDermott, who has the kind of ball movement game I think the Knicks can benefit from.
We will see.

We have Cavs, Boston, Raptors, Miluakee, Washington, Hornets, Heat, Pistons for the top 8 seeds. Then we have Knicks, Nets, 76ers, Orlando all trying to take out Pistons for that last spot. Maybe Heat struggle if they get some injuries.

The experience is what makes players better, builds confidence across the board. what will you get for winning 29 games, misery, loss of confidence, major changes again, coaches fired, and 5th straight lottery season, and no chance of getting a top 3 lottery pick.
