yea Mr. Not taking Dennis Smith is going to set us back years. You were saying? Frank's just a triangle PG? This is going to hurt for years? Frank is missing that burst? Seems like at 19 years old he's got quite a bit. There arent a lot of NBA players playing defense like Frank is right now. He keeps this up he's winning an award.Sorry to gloat, but Frank was drafted because he's a great defender and a winner. We saw that on full display tonight. Yes KP did the heavy lifting. Frank's defense was amazing, the kind of impact I expect from an all NBA defender, not a 19 year old rookie averaging 4pts and 3 assists.
Sorry but that game was intoxicating. Seeing our future flash before our eyes. So good. Fuck Dennis Smith Jr and Sr too

The obsession with dribble drive is baffling. Frank is better on defense than anyone in the draft is on offense. He’s warping that end of the floor. We don’t always get to be right as Knick fans, but I called the Kawhi comparisons, and Frankie is doing us proud early.
Dont believe the Kawhi comparisons are apt until Frank can get to the rim more consistently. When Kawhi sees the lane, he takes it.

in the paint. Which was on my wish list.I get the feeling his teammates are encouraging him to be more aggresive. Frank doesn't have that comfort level going to the rim just yet. But he's slowly gettin there.
Most PGs coming into the league are less hesitant to drive than Frank has been to this point, regardless of age. Pointing this out seems to be a major sore spot for some. No one is expecting instant results.
Pointing out the holes in Frank's game, isnt the same as wanting those holes instantly patched.
As for Smith Jr, he has shown elite athleticism, and shown he is capable of running the point. Both rooks are doing good things early on for their squad.

The ability for a point guard to get to the rim, score, dish, cant be underestimated IMO. Not sure why you're asking me about the appropriateness of comparing Frank as a Rookie to a a finals MVP. Im saying its too early.

The point is that taking it to the rim is relatively unimportant. The uniqueness of the comparison is the similarity in defensive stance and strategy between the 2, and that the impact on that end of the floor may rival some of the best offensive players.
Regarding offernse, Kawhi is not great at driving to the rim. He gets the vast majority of his points from motion and mid-long range shooting. 17% comes at the rim, transition notwithstanding. Both players have an advantage in mobility relative to length, rather than first-step burst or overly creative dribbling. To me, the comparison, although imperfect because of differences in positional duties, is very strong in many areas.

And there are a ton of "elite athletes" who didn't exactly tear the league up. Obviously its a great attribute to have, but it doesn't guarantee being an "elite player."

Smith has been up and down and so has Lonzo. Fultz? Forget about it...Frank is holding up well with every point guard drafted in the lottery, except maybe Fox. It's OK to point out things Frank needs to work on. He also made some strides taking it off the dribble. He's had some pretty good takes. I think it's more nerves than anything. You could tell he was geeked up by those free throws.

Strongly disagree about the importance of getting to the rim. Every time Frank took it to the rim, they worried more about Frank getting past them the next time, which makes it easier to find teammates. Because they have to respect his ability to get to the rim.
Its also important to get to the rim to get the other team in foul trouble. Help put their stars on the bench. Harder to do it if you arent going at them.

The point is it’s relatively unimportant with respect to the comparison to Kawhi, not that its unimportant entirely. Again, Kawhi does not take it to the rim often - I’m not sure why this is being brought up. There are 2 unique similarities here - 1) mobility relative to length and 2) the defensive impact is so great that it may trump that of excellent offensive players. There are few in the league that meet these criteria and that’s the why comparison is both accurate and discriminating.

I can see some similarities to Kawhi, Kawhiesque, lol. Leonard is a SF, and Frank has a different job description as a PG. Frank has played over 100 minutes and gotten to the line once.
That Crossover Frank showed was a relief. Showing he can be a threat to get to the paint at will, would really open up things for Frank, and the rest of the team in a big way.
Just has to develop a chip on his shoulder about going right at them.

Yes, if he can develop that aspect, there will be a lot of good nights for us Knick fans. It will come down to him leveraging his length and shooting.

YUP! You could really see what makes Frank special. It was great to see Frank in crunch time with KP.
He is looking to see the plays happen and then make the move. It's not all about his scoring.
DSJ is more about attacking, looking to score and then when the pass is there he makes.
Two completely styles of play.
I think Phil Jackson was right in this case. Frank complements KP much more. Jason Terry was Dirk Nowitzki's best "point" guard during their championship and it was an old Jason Kidd who helped them. When you build a team around a great scoring big man like we have and are planning to, you want a point guard who will pass, shoot the 3, defend and make the right plays off the playbook that sets up the big man properly.
Frank's the right pick for us. DSJ may be the better individual player, but I really like Frank for us.

His defense is pretty incredible, his length is very deceptive, it looks like a player has an open look and the next thing you know he has a hand in the shooters face. His offensive game has a very long way to go though he is so hesitant off the dribble. A few times last night he had an opening to drive but he held back, the kid needs to trust his ability.
One thing that was great to watch is how unselfish the guys around Porzingis are. No one is out there forcing up shots trying to put up numbers. They know Porzingis has a mismatch every time down the court and there letting the offense flow through him and picking their spots.
HofstraBBall wrote:The Kid had a great game. He shut down all of the Pacers back court penetration in the 4th Quarter. Don't recall Jerian Grant having games like this two years ago and that's even with him being 4 years older at the time.
