Knicks · Is it too early to say that Perry won the Melo Trade?!? (page 2)

Great move by Steve mills who went out and grabbed perry.....someone who's not part of the Dolan gang.....hes also good under pressure which is needed in NYC.
I'm glad we finally have a GM that knows how to build a team without taking back garbage just to satisfy the tabloids.
I agree. Said at the time that Perry was an inspired hire. It feels like we have an adult in the room when it comes to dealmaking.

To be honest, NY won the trade as soon as Melo left.
However, you are right on the mark. Kanter has been great. He is the right fit next to KP.
McBuckets is playing really well. I like his motor and Bball IQ.
A pick too? NY gets to add 2 pieces this next draft that can grow with this core. The next few years will be fun. If NY can create enough space to get in the FA pool this summer, that would be ideal

I say let's not be petty..... let's let history tell the story
The transition does seem tougher on the OKC side if things
knicks1248@ 11/21/2017 10:22 AM
I say it's too early, and the problem with OKC is depth

They lost 4 quality players.

Yeah losing 4 quality players and replacing them with George and Melo, who do a lot of the same things on offense, hurts.

That was our problem as well.

i would take Kanter, Dougie and Bulls pick over Felton, Mozgov, Danillo, Chandler and Dario Saric

Why would this mean it's too early? If they are structurally weaker and the Knicks stronger than it's pretty obvious that the Knicks won the trade. Added 2 younger guys who are having a positive impact and a Pick. We needed Melo gone in order to move forward and allow the kids to grow.

All this sounds a LOT like what we've been saying for years. Guys like Melo and PG13 are talented but they have the type of game that doesn't really fit a free flowing offense. Unless they change and start looking to move the ball and do more catch and shoot looks it's going to be tough. Too much ISO is a problem.
The Knicks are now sharing the ball more and more. That's what we wanted to see and with a team FULL of unselfish guys that's what we're getting.
fishmike@ 11/21/2017 1:30 PM
hindsight... Knicks accomplished all their goals in a Melo trade. FA and the draft as well. They wanted to be younger, to defend and share the ball. Guess what... its happening.
Trade away agenda driven players and replace with coachable guys (Kanter/McD/THjr/Frank) Trade away or jettison ball holders and non defenders (Rose/Melo/Jennings) Draft guys who are D first players (Frank/Dotson) Set coach free to run the team
This was their offseason and we are seeing immediate dividends. Good job Knicks FO. Now its up to the coaching staff to keep pushing the right buttons

Does Melo still have a no trade clause?
Presti would probly love to ship him to sacramento for a second rounder and Koufus
KnickDanger@ 11/21/2017 1:34 PM
Is 1/5th of the season gone too early?
Melo had to be gone. That we got anything, much less the valuable players we are seeing, is wondrous.

The trade made sense for both teams imo. Ideally Melo as a stretch forward with Russ and Adams makes a lot of sense and should in theory provide Russ and Adams quality spacing to do the damage that they do given their skill sets of Russ penetration and creation ability and Adams defense and finishing. OKC has to establish roles and the players all have to buy into their roles. With Boston KG, Pierce, Allen all had to buy into and commit to roles. Same with Lebron, Wade, Bosh and all these other supper teams that have made it work.

It is too early? Its November, its too early for trade evaluation, picking Frank vs DSjr, playoffs and draft. We won because we are letting the saplings get sunlight. Its where our franchise is. OKC is in another place.

Nope. He needed to relinquish the no trade clause to get the deal done.
mlby1215@ 11/21/2017 1:59 PM
I thought OKC would do better with Melo and I thought Knicks would do much worse without him.
I am happy I was wrong!

Melo is just proving Phil Jackson right Not about talent here It's about moving forward NY is OKC is like us last year now
They make the playoffs but will not go anywhere with that team.

Even if they were to shop him around the league, i bet they couldn't get the same value they gave us at this point.

You know what was funny to watch on First Take Steven A pleading to Melo to play better. “I need you to”. I thought that was Hilarious.
