Knicks · The 2018 Tank/Draft Thread (page 43)

Yikes, espn's mock draft show with Woj had Porter Jr dropping all the way to 15th last night (on the basis of back question marks, personality/chemistry issues and questions over his game)- they said even if all these questions check out they don't see him going higher than 6th (Bulls). Personally, i found their mock quite iffy- they had Carter Jr going to magic, which I just don't see as they have Isaac and Gordon, then Trae Young to Bulls- I'd probable switch those two around. They had us taking Mikal (which is cut out of this clip- it goes straight to Porter Jr at the end.

Every time I start wondering if Kevin Knox is worth gambling on, I can't get this vid out of my mind- are his dribbling and handle really as bad as they look in this:

In order to play positionless basketball we need a SF with some serious dribbling skills. Who is that? That's going to be our pick.
Unless we go for a rugged center next to KP.

Knox dribble with his head down.

Porter had freaking back surgery and played very few games the last two years.
No doubt he is a gamble and fact is the team that takes him might have to bring him along very slow.
Few 19 year olds can handle the physical demands of 82 game season, travel, etc while trying to get strong and body mature.
These guys are still physically growing!!!
If there is doubt and medical concerns one might have to look at his like the 76ers would have by taking him and delaying his inclusion.
Since we are bringing KP back slowly (if need be) this might not be a terrible LONG TERM thing.
Its one of many things that can happen. Interesting stuff!

Porter reminds me of Ron Mercer

I think this is Miles Bridges. Plus he's a great rebounder which will help KP.

Jared Vanderbilt announced he's staying in. The kid has a lot of upside, but his freshman year was a wash. To be honest, I'd take him over Knox if just had a mediocre jump shot. I wouldn't pick first round, #36 might be worth the gamble. What do you guys think?

I like his potential too.

From the Sporting News (here we go again)
Sources told Sporting News that Boston has expressed interest in Bamba, including interviewing him at the Chicago pre-draft combine two weeks ago. Bamba measured in with a record wingspan of 7-10 in Chicago, reinforcing his status as the most ready-made rim protector in the draft.

The Celtics have the No. 27 pick, but they have multiple assets on hand that could help them move into the top five of the draft, where the Grizzlies (No. 4) and Mavericks (No. 5) have made it clear they're willing to make a deal.

It's almost certain that the Celtics would not move rookie forward Jayson Tatum, who just wrapped up the postseason as the team's leading scorer, at 18.5 points per game. Less certain, though, is what Boston might do with point guard Terry Rozier (16.5 points, 5.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game in the playoffs) or swingman Jaylen Brown (18.0 points per game in the playoffs).

My interest has been on the forgotten Antetokounmpo! Kostas!

I really like his talent level. He’s not a fully complete player but his base talent is useful at the NBA Level.
The length, reflexes, handles, speed, finishing n shot blocking. Fits right in with a defense n Uptempo style.

I heard a scout saying that Kostas should be signed as a two-way player (if not drafted) and given time to develop. I'd definitely be in with that.

I would like Bamba, Carter, Mikal.

Bamba or Carter would be home runs but with Bulls high on both I no long see either of them falling like I had hope for earlier.

Mikal may not be a home run. But he could be a nice winning type player that if the Knick just continue to collect will be in really good shape. Guys like Frank and Mikal could do damage on the perimeter and make the right plays and calls. Do a ton of the little things and get their buckets in the flow. Both with potential to expand their offense down the road. If you have a rotation of guys like that then you end up like Boston did this last playoffs without Kyrie and Hayward.

Landing a high ceiling guy like Vanerbuilt or Kostas in the 2nd round would be the move as well.

The more prospects from our bracket (ie Carter, Mikal, Sexton etc) that go above us increases our chances of selecting a top prospect that falls like Porter because of injury questions, Young because of his size and defense, or even Bamba if teams aren't as high on him as they are reported to be.

Mikal could be a nice pick to pair with Frank, alternatively we could reach a little and draft Zhaire Smith. He's very athletic and has a lot of upside. He's an underrated shooter and could fit nicely with Frank offering a Mitchell like prospect.

So if Porter falls to 9 do those defective back rumors go away if we take him/

Apparantly it's concerns for the back (no ones seen the medicals yet) AND concerns over his attitude (interviews at the combine raised concerns), which is why the draft express guy has him going 7 to 10

Makes me wonder if Porter is trying to get his draft stock to fall to end up at a team in the 7-10 range like Chicago, Cleveland or us rather than a team like Orlando or Sacramento? Or does he legitimately have an attitude problem and something he doesn't want to get out from his medical?

Good stuff on Miles, Wendel and Lonnie.

Depends on how bad when evaluated. But for him to drop means all the other top rated prospects got snatched up. Which at that point he would be worth the gamble. Or just like I stated in the Trey Burke thread. A team like say Denver, say Porter, Noah & Lee for #14, Plummlee and Faried.

Take Miles or Hutchinson at #14. Or see if ATL would trade #19 & #30 for #14.
