Knicks · Sessions Is Being Released Burke Is On His Way (page 2)

Hopefully Burke will push Frank. Give him more of a sense of urgency when it comes to chipping in on offense.

I don't get the sense that Frank needs a push. Just better recognition of when to go and be aggressive. He's a Pass 1st PG and really not very skilled offensively. He'd have to change his mentality on every possession to looking to SCORE and passing if the defense stops him. That's a big switch to flip for a kid like him. His coach in France tried to get him to look for his offense more as well. It's a mental thing and Frank has to eventually find a better balance in his game.

Burke just has to play his game and maybe that will be an example to Frank of WHEN to attack and the ways to attack a defense. Still they're different players. Frank doesn't have he same Ball Skills as Burke. If he's going to do similar things he's gonna have to make do with his own abilities. He's just got to come off the screen harder like this.

Yeah it's a no lose situation. He is the right age for what they've been looking to do and perhaps like THJ the stint in the G League did him some good. People forget that THJ got demoted to the G League last year, worked his tail off and then earned a key starting role.

I didn't forget. But circumstances are different. THJ had all the physical tools but had to work on his attitude and defense. Burke doesn't have the physical tools and didn't appear to work on any of the things he needed to improve on. You're right tho, it is a no lose situation. I look at Burke's G-League highlights and he looks like the same kid who bounced out the league.

Burke might not have great tools but he has great skills. He's shooting 42% from three this year on more than six threes per game. He is an uncanny ball handler with either hand and can penetrate at will. He gets to the line. He knows how to lead a team as a PG and is a plus offensive player. I know for a fact that he's been working continuously on his body and has played very hard on the defensive end also.
I'm hoping that he can become a Kyle Lowry type for us.

He's only shown those skills consistently in the G-League. Kyle Lowry is stretch. DJ Augustine is a stretch.

can you show me these highlights for one whole game this season? i mean seriously, unless management has told him, we want you to be not aggressive and just take 1 season to understand the NBA instead of fitting in, he's been a net negative so far.

Still i have high hopes for him...albeit 2 seasons away.

maybe I got a text or something because I can't remember anything I saw from Frank last night that I thought was aggressive. Second really bad game in a row for him. At least Jeff is holding him accountable. He had had an uptick in minutes recently but they were cut way back the past two games.

I don't get the point of your initial question? He was drafted as a Defensive Pass 1st PG. His offense was always going to be in need of development. So they KNEW full well he wasn't an aggressive score 1st PG. Doesn't mean he sucks. Just means he's a bit raw offensively. Of all the things to be good at, Defense and Passing is a great start. He's going to be able to score. Just needs more work and confidence.

If you haven't seen that he's at least capable of getting to the basket by now then you need to work on your own skills of observation. It's not that he CAN'T but rather that he's not yet confident enough to be more aggressive. Perhaps you haven't noticed that he has in FACT increased his rate of drives per game since the start of the season. A couple of bad games recently isn't the whole story.

reub @ 1/13/2018 6:46 PM
The thing about Burke is that at least he's a modern NBA player in his style. He shoots threes and can dribble, He penetrates and gets to the line. These are things that our team is grossly lacking. He'll take some of the scoring load off of KP if they let him. Plus he's only 25 and many point guards don't start to mature until around this age.

The Tweet was obviously early in the game if you check what the guy said and the time stamp. I didn't post the tweet because of what he said. I was simply posting the play to point out how Frank needs to come off the screens more aggressively. No other point was being made about him having a good game.

The hope is that Jeff runs stuff that fits his strengths so he can Add some punch to the offense. Jeff has some really conservative stuff he's been using and I hope that with Burke he can open things up a bit more, the way he did things in PHX.

My guess is that if Burke shows a scoring ability in practice that Jeff will give him the GREEN LIGHT in games.

I was hoping that we would have signed Kay Felder to replace Burke at Westchester but he signed with the Pistons as a two way player.

he has made some good passes, and how many TOs has he had? even if he was drafted as such, it doesn't help if his offense is just atrocious. Do we want KP to walk or convince him that hey...we still have work to do, please stick around...don't pick the lakers.

Cartman718 @ 1/13/2018 7:27 PM
and nix please don't show his highlights against a lottery bound team against a player he was compared to so he decided to show up. he needs to treat every opposing pg like that. lets face it...he's showing he's taking days off. at least with KP that's one thing you could never say. he may have taken the wrong shots recently, but you have to at least take em to make em.

I don't want Frank forcing things. I want him to learn to properly recognize when and how to look for his own offense. You are basing a lot of your critique on the last couple of off games for a 19 year old, when in fact he's had a very respectable season so far. Unlike DSJ he's a net positive for his team. They've played better with him on the floor for most of the season. These few bad games is not the norm for him.

Adding Burke should actually take some pressure off Jack and provide a nice example for Frank to learn from in terms of looking for his offense. And amazing that Burke is STILL trying to find his way in the NBA even tho he's 25!!! You're going on about Frank at 19. SMH.

Can you show me the highlights of Steve Nash when he was 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 years old and being aggressive in the NBA? 5 years.

Anything?

And yeah, I know he didn't start in the NBA til he was 22. And didn't get to 8 PPG until he was 25.

Fucking 25 years old and had 4 years in the league and still couldn't get double digits. Probably should have traded him or cut him or benched him.

CxThe only place I saw it in print was in Berman's article. Berman's cited a source and said things didn't get off to a great start because Sessions missed all but one voluntary workout.

There's a very good chance that Burke and Frank will see court time together rather than the Frank/Baker tandem. I see a lot of flexibility with Frank going forward. Both can be what they are. Frank being a defender and distributor and Burke adding some scoring and breakdown ability.

You guys keep saying he is only 19,and if that's the case, why are we rushing him. We need to upgrade the position and bring him along slowly. I honestly would like to see how his numbers would look against G league competition.

He's getting good experience in the NBA and defends at the NBA level. He was literally improving each month until January. It was expected that he'd have some kind of tough patch at some point this season as a 1 yr old. Kid can't even grow a beard. I think they're handling him just fine.
