Knicks · Will the Knicks retain M Beasley and if so how much? (page 2)

martin wrote:You guys are NUTS. Beasley has not gotten a more than minimum contract for 5 years straight and you suddenly want to give him a more than 1 year deal? And some starting at $10M?!?!?!

Beasley is the type of guy you add on to your roster AFTER all your other needs and guys are taken care of.

For me, $5M with a team option for the second year at the same rate. Otherwise the Knicks should be hunting for a player who could fill the same offensive role off the bench that is in his early 20's and actually is interested in giving full effort all the time and who could grow with the current crew.

If he asks for more, thank him for his play and move on.

Your cruelty knows no bounds. 10 mill for what Beasley does is quite reasonable considering his production. Beasley (even with the hiccups) provides offense when no one else can find the rim. Believe you are selling his ability to fill holes in the offense, short.

I agree. That 2 year deal with a team option on year 2 is a great way to go. I hope we can retain him though, he's a big help in his current role. The guys who want to pay him big money are the same guys calling him our best player and the same guys who judge players strictly on their last game.

He's in a contract year and he's had a nice stretch for a couple hundred minutes. Otherwise, he has been a league min player his whole career. You can't jump from league min to 8 figures per year based on a tiny stretch in a contract year.

Beasley's numbers throughout his career had as much to do with what happened off the court, as on.
I could be wrong, but I believe Beasley is worth 10 mill a year, isnt that what you pay a good bench player these days?

This is similar to Kanter opts out situation after the season. I don't think Beasely is worth $10 M. Even if he was, what teams out there with cap space would look at him? I think the market for mid-tier guys is going to suck this off-season, anyway. A guy like Beasely will probably find it harder to land that type of deal.

It's a contract year. He's making sure everything on and off the court goes as smoothly as possible.

Guessing 4-40 is basically saying the guy is worth around the MLE. Is that the case here? Who will replace Beasley for us? Its not easy to do what he does.

A guy who can give you 20-10 in his mid twenties is called a max player.

newyorknewyork @ 1/17/2018 12:52 PM
A soon as Hardaway came back Beas mins dropped to 16. We will see how it plays out the rest of the season. There is a lot of games left before any decisions have to be made.

He did the same thing for Milwaukee and no team considered giving him the max.

Cant blame you for being cynical (under the circumstances) but that remains to be seen. Might be JR all over again, but Beasley seems more together these days, than seasons past. Dont believe its all about the contract, although Im sure it plays a part.

I agree, he is tough to replace. I think it's more the years than the dollars per year. It's tough to trust him on a long-term contract, most can agree there. But the dollar amount per year is fair for someone who produces like him. I don't think the market will be very good to him this offseason, so it will be interesting to see how it works out.

I dont know enough about Beasley other than what he has been here. in NY he seems to be compliant a hard worker umm and a very good and CONSISTENT player. Hes not a must have core player--but hes been good for us. You could say the same thing about C Lee who makes 12mm per. Id like to see more of kP at C and beasley at PF.

He is 29. 4 yr deal this off season would run from when he is 30-34. 2 yrs like Martin said would probably be the remaining yrs of his prime ability and even that isn't a guarantee. As for dollar amount it depends as if say a Kanter opts out or we are able to move Lee's contract for a shorter one. Then that's money that eats into a 2019 free agent that we could target who is in his prime. So once those type of things are sorted and figured out then we could see if its best to keep Beasley or keep that money for a long term core piece.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

But that's not at all describing Beasley. He's a 29 year old bench guy who doesn't play with effort, takes plays off, and averages about 12 and 5.

Yeah we don't know for sure. I'm just saying you have to be cynical with that kind of money. I don't want another Jerome James contract.
