I can see Luke being a useful rotation player, initially as a backup center and possibly more. His mobility ìs above average for a center - he really moves his feet well. I like that he competes hard, contains well on PnRs and usually makes the right rotations with effort. He stays vertical and doesn't really fall for pump fakes. He does need to cut back on touch fouls and get stronger - but he is a rookie. It would be great if he developed his post game - I think he would make a great complement to KP on offense when that happens. On defense, with his rim protection capabilities, he would save KP from having to help as much from the weak side, hopefully bolstering the 3P defense.
I did notice that he is a bit of a rhythm shooter - small sample size of course. In the 5 games where he played greater than 20 minutes, he's shot 48% (14/29). In the 8 games where he played between 10 to 20 minutes, he shot 27% (8/30). In the 6 games where he played less than 10 minutes, he shot 15% (2/13). He also shot 41% (16/39) at home versus 24% (8/33) on the road.
He does also need to improve his defensive rebounding, and I would never expect his offensive rebounding rate to be very high. He does have good basketball I and is a willing ball mover on offense.

Kornet is a keeper for sure, i think he has a lot of potential

4 of 7 from 3 in the last game of the season playing 28 minutes. Luke finished at 35.4% on 3 pointers for the season, a more than respectable figure for his rookie year. Showed the banker and drove hard to the basket against closeouts - he has a good repertoire. High floor, potentially high ceiling - he creates mismatches on the offensive side of the floor.
Great find - I hope the Knick use their available cap space to sign him to a minimum contract for 4 years.

+!
Luke has good fundamentals. If he bulks up a bit and can rebound and defend the post, he will be more than a 3rd string C, IMO.

totally agree. I have watched a lot of him and been super impressed. He uses his length really well. He's an EXCELLENT passer. I mean he's a legit ball mover out there who's size and length allows him to create some of his own passing lanes, much like we see with Frank.

There have been 17 centers selected in the last two drafts (2016 and 2017) - outside of maybe Jakob Poeltl and Jarrett Allen, I wouldn't pick anyone else over Luke. He to me is a free first round pick.

I wouldn't go that far, yet. Kornet is a four-year guy and was older than many prospects coming. That said, I can definitely seeing developing into a backup 5. Another good pickup by Phil and Gaines.

Decent pick-up. Four year guy, but he only turns 23 in July.
Backup at 5 and sometimes PF.
If he has a good off season strength program, he should he a nice guy to have at the end of the bench. He's not quick, but definitely not as slow as I thought he was.
And yeah, forget that he was a Phil/Gaines guy.

He is what CENTERS are going to be like in this ERA of basket ball
ccinflushing@ 4/12/2018 4:22 PM
I also like my centers to be a bit older as a rookie - more physically mature and more mentally able to anchor a defense.
also look at where he was strength-wise in the summer league .. made major strides over the course of the year .. getting stronger but still some ways to go ..

Many C are simply not ready until they are 23-26. You see huge huge jumps in college C who stay four years. Many of the guys who come out early end up lacking many things and take time anyway.

I think his ceiling is Michael Doleac, which I would take. I saw nothing that leads me to belive he is a future starter

Doleac was a physical big bodied immobile non 3 point shooting unskilled center .. Kornet is a mobile 3 point shooting skilled center, a new age big .. Kornet's ceiling is much much higher ..
Look at how many teams in the playoffs could use a big with Kornet's skillsets .. Portland, Washington, Miami, Cleveland amongst others

I remembered Doleac as a three point shooter... I was wrong. But I do remember him as a somewhat mobile pick and pop player (for his era).
I disagree, that Kornet's ceiling is 'much much higher'. Doleac played a decade in the league and was a part of a championship roster

Here's a list of the centers and forwards who have shot >35% on 3 pointers, on >3 3 pointers per game and average >.75 blocks per game this season .. New age bigs .. fairly short list .. mostly elite players

and here's that list with a PER of >= 15 (aka average)
while I understand it's new to encourage your bigs to shoot threes, that doesn't necessarily make him a good player
maybe he becomes more than that but, again, i have seen nothing that makes me believe he's going to be a player that deserves to start, let alone be as good KAT or Jokic
ccinflushing@ 4/23/2018 3:58 PM
Kornet's PER was 13.6 - so if he had shot a bit better he would have met that criteria .. he's a rookie he'll get better and stronger and more efficient .. obviously can't predict the future but that's pretty select company for a rookie
SupremeCommander@ 4/23/2018 4:06 PM
remove you 3PA criteria, and you begin to notice his place on the list...
ccinflushing@ 4/23/2018 4:14 PM
The 3PA volume criteria and shooting it at a high level is what makes a new age big ..
