you have been watching too much WNBA. How many guys are tearing up the NBA at 6 feet and 165lbs?
Young would be a bigger waste of a pick than Jordan Hill. This reminds me of when you kept blasting us with Hasheem Thabeet threads and how he would make the Knicks a 50 win team. Right away.
Thank god we have a guy from the G league is 10x the player and under contract in Burke.

No we need a dynamic pg. Well we need a lot lol but we really need a pg. Trey Burke can be a Lou Williams off the bench type.
that would be the swing for the fences move. It would also make the Hardaway sigining look even more foolish.
yea.. swing for the fences... the only problem is the pitch you are swinging at is a curveball in the dirt. Pick a better pitch.

Trae would probably help Tim.
I agree. Young/THJ to start Burke/Frank off the bench would be a lot of firepower. Draft or find a 3, and we're in good shape.
I think Bridges from Villanova is a slight upgrade over a 3 we can find in FA or later in the draft. I think a defensive big is more valuable to us than bridges. If young falls to us and we get a defensive center......Thats a good draft. Young has the talent to find others.....draw attention.....or shoot the 3. He's a JH type PG who could turn into a star in this up and down system.
Burke does that now. I have been watching him closely. Burke is creating a tremendous amount of open looks

Briggs, is Young better than Burke in your opinion? And please explain why you think that.

I think Burke will be a potential Lou Williams--Im not sure about him starting PG

Seems like Burke is rounding out his PG skills though. Lou is not a pick and roll player, whereas Burke looks the part right now, despite no help. I can only imagine he will improve playing the 2 man game with KP. Again, i'm not opposed to Young, i just think that Burke is starting to lessen that need of a playmaker significantly, and i'm concerned Young definitely won't be a short-term upgrade, and may not be a major upgrade long-term either. If we draft Young, we can't expect him to do what Burke is doing now at least for a couple of years.

Knixkik wrote:Briggs, is Young better than Burke in your opinion? And please explain why you think that.
I believe they are similar right now....But there's a 5 yr or more difference. The hope is young will improve as he approaches Burkes age and when young is 25.....He should be better than burke.
I will be going back and forth on these picks because in reality... They are all risky picks outside the top 2 or 3. worse case with young is we just drafted another Burke. I'm ok with that. What's bridges worse case? The question should be who has more upside in our system? Bridges blends in well which is great. But we can find plenty of players that blend in.
Young doesn't blend in and to me that's a sign for a high ceiling of growth. I'm not comparing their skill set.... but wasn't nash a scoring guard in college? came to the NBA and transformed Phoenix into a high power offensive team. I think young has star potential and doesn't want to blend in.....he wants to be a start.
It depends on how this new knick management approaches this rebuild. are they risk takers? Then young is your pick. Are they risk adverse? Then bridges is your pick.

Not sure if they are similar now. Obviously Burke is much more efficient as a shooter right now and literally never turns the ball over. If we draft Young, we will have to expect a lot of turnovers and sub-40% shooting early in this career. As for defense, neither is good, but obviously Burke is a better defender.

He was double and triple teamed of course, but physically the NBA is a different animal. Imagine what Burke would do today at the college level? Again, i like him, but i am not convinced he can provide us a better option than Burke in the short or long term.

I thought scouts were cooling on him? He is projected more in the 8-12 range now i believe.

I know less than zero about any of these players, but I just don't see Young falling to where we are likely to pick. If he does and we pass, I think I might be done with being a fan.

Who are these scouts? And why does the idea of the best point guard in college basketball falling to 12th make sense to you?

I'm just going off what i read in ESPN, etc. A lot of people think Sexton is a better prospect and aren't convinced Young can physically hold up in the league, especially defensively.

And a rotation of Young/THjr/Burke/Frank.... not sure if that's a solid deep playoff guard rotation IMHO

Lets just talk about Young in the context of the NBA... because I could show Adam Morrison highlights just as impressive.
Lets talk about how many players who are 6 feet or shorter and weigh about 170 pounds who have been successful in the NBA. Lets compare Young to those guys.
Sell me... Im all ears.

Fishmike--you watched two games end of season--Trae Young is an offensive engine who was over used not disciplined at times and then keyed on by whole teams. He will be hard to guard 1-1--he wont have 2-3 guys wrapped on him every play--he wont have to be over used he wont need to take 4 38 footers. He simply needs to run the offense extended the floor with 3's at 40%+ and make other players better. This guy isnt Adam Morrison--hes cat quick and very smart. I think hes a combination of Parker and Curry

Briggs.. you watched two games start of season. Once the comp got tougher the scouting report on Young was easy. Double him and knock him off his spots. A little physical play and the guy's game came undone.
Lets see how he tests physically. One of the things that wowed about Curry was he was much stronger and more athletic than given credit for. He was also a much better shooter in college than Young. MUCH better.
The problem is I have a G league guy dropping 20 and dishing 8 dimes like he's ready to do so for the next decade.
Two honest questions when evaluation Young's value to the Knicks: 1) How long will it take Young to be a better NBA player than Trey Burke is 2) How much better and sooner does Young have to be than Burke to justify using a lottery pick on him when you have a guy like Bridges (I suspect he's not there when we pick) who has a tailor made NBA game with high impact upside?

I think the general consensus on Young's defense is that he's going to be a negative anytime he doesn't outscore his opponent. He's not a good finisher yet, but his floater has potential. Is he going to come in and be better than Burke off the bat? No. In three to four years? Maybe. Honestly, I think Sexton is the safer pick, and I think Sexton is only being projected mid lottery because the PG class is so weak this year.
SupremeCommander@ 4/4/2018 12:49 PM
I don't dislike Trae Young but I really, really like Collin Sexton and would take him over Trae
