Knicks · Hornacek is out...per Woj (page 1)

Not sure I like it, but...

TheGame @ 4/12/2018 1:50 AM
It was time. The team looked better but it still had too many issues that were present last year.

Not sure it was his fault, though, was it?

I thought our offense was better this year, and we competed on D. Guys played hard for him, even at the end, when playing hard screwed up our lottery position.

I figured 1 more year was warranted.

magicTs @ 4/12/2018 2:06 AM
He deserved to be fired for allowing us to win 2 games in the last few days. That alone was reason enough. An absolute shitshow of a season yet again. Good riddance.
jskinny35 @ 4/12/2018 2:40 AM
I think he did reasonably well considering the obstacles (eg had to run triangle last year, KP hurt this year) and deserved to finish his contract. Since he's out, I just hope and pray we don't go after Mark Jackson or Jason Kidd. Both excellent guards but their coaching personalities don't seem to mesh with management... Back around 2000-2001 - remember how Doc Rivers got that Orlando team of young guys to overachieve... he was also successful with Celts and the veteran players... The Memphis coach also seems solid and deserving of another shot... Don't know much about Blatt except he was good overseas and butted heads with Lebron. Who else besides the usual names/retreads is available and would be a good fit for the Knicks where they are currently (rebuilding)?
Gudris @ 4/12/2018 2:45 AM
Sad, i like him, but yeah, i think we need someone ''stronger'' in nyc

Yep! Good riddance! Didn't have a hope after the Phil shenanigans last season, but he still proved to be highly annoying and screwed us over big time with those last 2 wins.

You people keep forgetting that it is new lottery system next year

Not this year though - that's the issue

smackeddog @ 4/12/2018 4:27 AM
Hope we hire a new coach quick- want them here before the draft work outs. Don't want a repeat of the saga when Phil hired Hornacek.

I'm fine with Fizdale or JVG

CrushAlot @ 4/12/2018 5:14 AM
Rambis is out as well. I wonder if Noah is brought back. With Rambis is out is Beasely gone? I hope they make a smart hire before the draft.

Good news, but I hope Beasley stays

franco12 @ 4/12/2018 7:22 AM
I don't think he deserved to be fired, but a change was needed, at least to allow Perry to pick his guy.

Maybe also see if we can get tank minutes out of Noah next year.

The pick will say a lot about the organization and what they are thinking and planning.

Nalod @ 4/12/2018 7:34 AM
I agree he was never give a chance to succeed given the circumstances with injuries to KP and lack of depth.
I thought he did OK and developed the kids nice.
They want their guy and that makes sense.
I suppose the exit interviews cant be done with. Guy your planning on firing so best to do it asap.
I’m good with Stack, Blatt, Fizz and anyone not JVG or Mark Jax.
I have no real problem with JVG other than the retread thing. Jax no for reasons he got fired in GSW.
nyknickzingis @ 4/12/2018 7:44 AM
The only problem I had with Horny was he never seemed to have a consistent style in how he wanted to do things.
Many blamed Jackson that first year, but it ran into the same thing the second year.
He never really brought a style or defense that was consistent and what you saw the team run again and again.

The best teams tend to have coaches like that. They don't care if it's their G League guys or rookies out there, they will run that system again and again.

Not that I think Fizdale or Jackson will do any better.
Blatt intrigues me more, as I think he does have a system and will run it.

Uptown @ 4/12/2018 7:52 AM
Jay Wright or Fizdale would be my top two choices....Fizdale got a raw deal in Memphis...
GoNyGoNyGo @ 4/12/2018 8:06 AM
Yeah..Not jumping for joy on this one. I dont think Jeff is the problem. Its just lack of talent. With KP this team is around 35-38 wins this year. Not great but improved. Add a lottery pick and a ML FA and they could get into the 40s next season.

I would have been OK with Jeff for one more year. Stability is needed but.....

Going forward, I think DOc and MJax are the top 2 candidates. Both has Knick history and understand NY. I would take DOc over Mjax. He has won before. Mjax got GS going but got tossed for some reason. That is concerning.

Fizzdale is interesting...sleeper pick.

Blatt will get an interview as he is a friend.

Jay Wright would be foolish to leave Villanova. He's the best in CBB now. He gets paid well there.

No to Kidd.

Also Jeff's offense was nice to watch this year. I think his players liked him well except for Noah.

Nalod @ 4/12/2018 8:09 AM
I’d like to think this was not a “Blame him” firing as much as they have someone in mind they really really want.
Jeff was a compromise pick by Phil after Kerr, Walton, and Fish. Not a bad pick but objectively look at the roster over the two years. He had the team playing well early on but biggest problem was on road production. Can’t say he would have fixed it but Hardaway injury then KP doomed it.
I hope he gets another chance with a more stable situation than he had with the Suns and Knicks.
If we go with fresh name like Wright, Stack, etc we he to be patient. IM taking Brad Stevens patient, two years plus. Jeff got a 3 year deal, new fresh should ask for 5 year. It gives him a few years to find his voice.

totally agree. Usually these teams just lay down. Our young guys played hard. Obviously poor coaching. Next up!
fishmike @ 4/12/2018 8:17 AM
I like Jeff and thought he could have been part of a turn around here. The fact that the FO didnt wait for exit interviews or anything is telling. They were done with him.

Hopefully they have someone already essentially picked out and agreed to. If it turns out to be some search its a bad sign

It’s not the NFL but there seemingly is some amount of credence to offering guys interviews and perhaps giving such opportunities to minorities as well.
I agree, I’d like to think its more about who they want then who they don’t.
I suppose the speed is because exit interviews are done almost right after the season. I also hope Jeff had a good idea about his fate and Knicks treated the situation well.
