Knicks · Fizdale is no Brad Stevens (page 2)

Kerber wrote a fantastic article today about what coaches have had to say about Fizdale when they worked with him. I was convinced before reading it that he was a great hire but if you have doubts, I think it is worth reading.Just read the article, thanks. He’s definitely a sharp dude. Just want to see if he helps transform KP into a superstar and turn this team into a free flowing pass oriented offense. If I see an iso offense with no ball movement then I’ll not be happy.

Yes great players win championships but what Brad Stevens is doing with this Celtics team decimated by injuries is quite amazing.Im sorry are you saying Fiz was only hired because players like him and not because he's a talented coach?Well you can’t deny part of the reason why he was hired was his relationships with certain players and with the Knicks front office for that matter. Let’s see how he handles X’s & O’s and if he can bring KP to that next level.
You can't say for certain that that's the reason why he was hired.
Mostly, who cares. Lots of reasons he was hired. None of them have anything to do with a Brad Steven's comparison
Not sure if Fizdale can get the same results like Stevens with the current Celtics roster. With players such as KP & Frankie I would’ve liked to at least interview Ettore Messina. That to me would be a forward thinking hire, but I guess our front office wanted someone they can get along with.
End of the day, majority of the time, great players win championships. Although these great players that love Fizdake will be ready to retire by the time the Knicks are ready to compete in the playoffs. Simply being a #7 or #8 seed and getting knocked out in the first round is a waste of time.
What's your thoughts on Ettore Messina v Fizdale? Why is one forward thinking and the other is not?
Also, your assumption that Fizdale was hired because he would bring along LeBron seems out of left field or reserved for you and Isola?
Messina is a proven winner as a head coach in Europe (our best player & promising rookie are also European) and he is lead assistant for the best coach & organization in the nba. To me that has Fizdale beat.I didn’t assume that he was hired to bring in LeBron but I’m sure the Knicks want the fans to think that.
We can pretty much guarantee whomever the Milwaukee Bucks hire as their new coach will be more accomplished.
Btw Fizdale getting hot & bothered in front of the media during a first round exit in the playoffs is not impressive. Leaders don’t do that. Quite frankly Fizdale seems a bit full of himself.
I agree with you felt the Knicks passed on much better candidates. Fizdale’s arrogance will get him in trouble in NYC. His feud with Gasol wasn’t impressive either. And WTF is the Miami Way. The Miami way is scary because it all hinges on them landing the big fish.
He was sticking up for his team. Memphis went on to win the next 2 games tying up the series 2-2. Vs a way superior Spurs team after they rallied around him for sticking up for them as well working the refs.
His feud with Gasol was over pace of play. As well as probably conditioning.

Can't take a position against someone because he is liked by certain players. But if that WAS the deciding factor it would be a problem. There's no evidence that this is why he was chosen though.

If his response to Gasol say the team doesn’t have a leader. Was I know you want Popovich as your coach. Well I want LeBron as my player says a lot about Fizdale.

What does it say? That he shares the same opinion as every professional coach in the Galaxy? Players and coaches have these spats all the time. The Gasol brothers are known to be a little more sensitive than other players. Not the end of the world. Fiz seems smart and I'm sure he learned from the experience. Perry has shown himself to be measured and I'm sure he based this decision off more than Fiz's relationship with LeBron.

It’s says that he can’t do it without LeBron and whoever he has isn’t going to be enough.
Fiz is strong in all the areas that this team is going to need over the next few years. I think worrying about Brad Stevens comparisons is totally besides the point. This is not Memphis. The Knicks are a better situation for Fiz to establish the culture he wants with more support from Perry and Mills than he got in Memphis. He's going to meet with KP which is the right thing to do. I trust that KP will listen and at least give Fiz a chance to coach him and show KP how he can make him and the team better.
Vmart wrote:In the east right now it looks like no one without LeBron can do it. But he wasn't hired to do it next year. He was hired to be part of a stable situation where the coach and management are on the same page. A team that went 6-25 to end the season is not going to be worrying about LeBron. The Knicks will be trying to figure out if Mudiay, Williams, and Dotson are keepers. If your expectation is that Fiz is going to win right away you definitely will be disappointed.BigDaddyG wrote:Vmart wrote:meloshouldgo wrote:TLover wrote:fishmike wrote:TLover wrote:Can’t stand the Celtics but they have a great coach. Bud did have an incredible year with Atlanta, 4 all stars in the east.
Don’t pay attention to Atlanta much to know of all of the players who he developed that everyone is talking about. THJr is nothing special so far

Start throwing everyone under the bus because it’s doesn’t fit your Knicks can do no wrong agenda.

I am literally wondering if Bud developed anyone cause I don't pay attention to him.
Also know very little about Fizdale to add very much outside of what others are saying.
How about yourself? Do you know much about Fizdale? Third time I have asked

No one is paying more than 10 to 13 mill per for a center who is more of a back up, can't stretch the floor or block shots. The only reason he got the contract he got now is OKC matched portlands offer when he was a RFA.

And because he coached overseas that's suppose to give him some a special bound or sway over KP and Frank? The rest of the world is a big place. I'm pretty sure neither KP or Frank played in the same league Messina coached in.

Fizdale is an excellent coach. Who has a history in a winning situation. How much he was a part of the winning remains to be seen. We all know that a Pat Riley team is going to compete. And players are going to be accountable in all aspects of the game including the Riley famous tip top shape program. We can expect the players to be in the best shape of their lives. That’s the “Riley way” not the Miami way.
I have no problem moving forward with Fizdale his history is short as head coach and his old team’s development of young players leaves a lot to be desired. But like I said we are going to get on the Knicks boat regardless if it has leaks.

Well, hopefully that will end that. Now we can focus on the draft.

If the Celtics had all their players available, some of these starter quality player would have been backups. Stevens is pretty good, not great imo. He has a lot of talent to work with. Talent>>>>coach in this instance, sorry.

He doesn't have a lot of talent to work with, Monroe, morris, larkin were other teams castaways, the rest of the roster you barely know. He has raise the level of the teams effort and focusness.
Right now Brad is the best coach in the league.
