I find it funny the same posters who argued with me when I said Frank wasn't a PG are the same ones now saying its positionless basketball and its not a big deal he isn't the primary ball handler. I said he was a backup wing and when/if we ever get talents thats what he will be, He is a nice role player but there were better options

Most posters believe it is still too early to stick a label on him. Yes he was drafted as a PG and up until now there are aspects of the position for which he hasn't yet shown to be up to NBA level (scoring and penetration mostly) but playing other positions doesn't mean he won't switch back to PG at some point (pun not intended). Getting closer to the paint may help him being better accustomed to using his body to absorb contact, how to draw fouls, etc, and make him less averse to attack the rim if/when he's played as a PG again.

Obviously Mitchell was a huge miss, but 12 teams missed on him - well, 11 as Tatum looks like he's going to be a star for Boston. For DSJ the jury's still out. He's probably going to be a better career scorer than Frank and will draw more attention due to his style of play but wether he'll be more impactful overall remains to be seen.

Jmpasq wanted to trade KP.

I find it funny when guys place broad sweeping predictions and conclusions on 19 year old players who have never even listed weights. Frank has everything to prove. He's got a believer in Fizdale. That can be incredibly empowering for a young player. Lets see. We are prolly gonna win another 30ish games. So what. We will see

Yeah some were saying that he wouldnt fit with fizdale but obviously that's not the case. Honestly I could care less if he is a "true point guard" or not. The great thing about him is that he is effective at 3 possibly 4 positions as well as his top notch defense. Its really difficult to find those type of players
Nalod @ 10/17/2018 1:04 PM
Focus sometimes on what these guys are not, but not what they are or what coaches see.
I have seen Frank/KP do incredible instinctive things. The eye test sometimes trumps the on paper stat.
Hoping KP fulfills his trajectory. As a fan I have enjoyed watching his progress. His fundamentals are so strong its a pleasure to see it at times. Some players are athletic wonders unto themselves. Amare when healthy was amazing.

the first 10 games last year kp was dirk plus the defense.

Does predicting a 19 year old will some day prove he was worth an 8 pick have any more merit? Btw..predictions are what boards are all about. Some on here predicted that KP was a bust. That Phil picked the best PG in the 2017 draft. That Frank was not just a Triangle PG. Some even predicted that Noah would prove to be a good signing.

However, true Knick fans should all be rooting for Frank to get to a high level. I Hope Frank continues to improve and brings value no matter what position he plays. Even though I still think we picked a good role player in the lottery.

Speaking of predictions, how many wins do you think we get this year?

nychamp @ 10/18/2018 5:43 AM
He had a great game last night.
Don't know the stats, but eye test he played an excellent game. Defense, spacing, team ball.

Trading KP wasn't just about talent, his frame and injury concerns were a problem for me and still could be for the Knicks. History for guys of KP's size hasn't been pretty. And Was I wrong? Trading KP to Boston for the Tatum pick might of worked out a little bit better. How many of you would rather have Tatum right now?

Nalod @ 10/18/2018 6:47 AM
Not me. Tatum is great but his rookie year had him on a Talented and deep roster with a great young coach. Injury aside Kp talent and height makes for a compelling gamble. I m not distracted by hindsight clarity.

He'll still have to improve his stats to make a spot for himself. 5pts, 1ast, 5rb and a +/- of -2 don't look great, however the eye test may look.

I thought at the time we might have been able to make the trade, it would have been for #1 and that would have been Fultz, no?

And that would have been a disaster.

No... we want to see his stats improve, but he lead the team in minutes last night and I think of the 30ish minutes he was on the floor he gave up a 3 to Prince and a floater to Bazemore. Frank was all over the place handling the ball, deflecting passes... his early 3 was a big shot to get the Knicks going. The only reason he was not good on the +/- was he was the only one on the floor while both the starter and bench struggled, which both units did at first.

What we saw last night was good play from Frank in a winning cause. I 100% agree that we can ask for much more, especially on offense, but for now he's playing a role and a very important one. I wanted to start Frank/Lance at the forwards because I thought to have any success we needed those blue collar guys out there with our scorers. It worked perfectly, because Burke/THjt/Enes were all great. Dont you think Lance/Frank had a role in their success?

Look... to be a great draft pick Frank needs to be a 2 way player. He isnt, he's a defensive specialist. However at 20 and showing great improvement I am very happy because I already think he's an effective NBA player. Can we expect more? Ask for more? Heck yea...

I dont want Frank to be a defensive specialist. I am happy that our coach is using his best skill as a real weapon out there. Juliano I am with you... Frank needs to show more. I am confident he will continue to, and do so while playing quality NBA minutes.

yea, he appears to have an instinct to defer on offense. last night reminded me of the opener in summer league. i think fiz lit a fire under him after that and we saw the results in game 2. hopefully we'll see the same result in game 2 regular season. he's got the capability, he's shown it.

Frank gave up a lot more than those 2 baskets. He got beat by his man much more than that. He is good defensively NOT great. He is great in the passing lanes , ok man to man defense. He still gets beat way too much on man to man and commits silly fouls.I am not even talking about his offensive game which needs a lot more time. Offensively he looks 2 years away from being ready in 2 years. Some poster said Frank had a "great game" last night. Really? great? No way. Thats like when your kid is a D student and comes home with a 75 on a test. Great job Frankie !!! I know I am in the minority here but I'll wait for the superlatives for when he really deserves them.

I think you are selling Frank short on defense. Not only does he get matched up with the better offensive players but he is also has to help out a lot because obviously nobody is close to him defensively. Fiz trusts him ALOT.

Careful, you keep this up around here and you'll get some of the regulars telling you how ignorant of basketball you are and all you care about are scoring and highlight dunks. And that you dont realize defense matters.

I was drawn to this forum because of my interest for the kid, so I am everything but a hater. I really hope he turns out great but let's face it it's not going to happen unless he improves those stat lines. He needs to register 10/5/3 over the season if he's going to have a future as a starter in this league.

Off topic but I was lurking on a Mavs forum and a couple of posters showed concern with DSJ, so it's not all rosy over there either.

Luka looked great before the foul trouble, not worried there. DSJ though... You would expect more from him after a strong preseason.

Dennis was bad. He needs to show something this year to avoid becoming the next Emmanuel Mudiay. Still not close to giving up on him after one game though. On to the next.

I was hoping to see a second year improved DSJ but that game was really hard to watch. I don't see any change from last year to this game. Bad decisions and shooting form. He's the tools, but doesn't seem to make the right decision at the right time. He would drive into the lane and then look to pass instead of making the 3 foot shot. Maybe it is jet lag or something but I hope that's just first game jitters and we move up from here.

The big thing to watch is whether Doncic and Smith can co-exist. They obviously have plenty of time to make it work, but it's something that many of us mentioned when the idea of drafting Luka came about.

DSJ is what he is. He can be a dynamic scorer but does make a lot of errors and obviously doesnt defend. Respect their fans for being honest

You're not wrong at all...Obviously it's one game, but this game pointed out why Burke needs to be in the 1st 5 for this team. At the point, Burke is the only pg who plays down hill and puts constant pressure on the defense. It's the way the NBA is being played today. At this point in Franks career, he's not that dude. He's a glue guy and an unselfish ball mover right now and there's nothing wrong with that. All good teams need guys like Frank.

Frank had a handful of nice moments, disrupting plays, recovering and helping...little things that don't normally show up. He was far from the best player on the floor and has a very long way to go offensively. Can he become more aggressive offensively as he gains more experience? Perhaps. But, it just doesn't seem to be in his DNA.

Don't know the stats, but eye test he played an excellent game. Defense, spacing, team ball.

He'll still have to improve his stats to make a spot for himself. 5pts, 1ast, 5rb and a +/- of -2 don't look great, however the eye test may look.

No... we want to see his stats improve, but he lead the team in minutes last night and I think of the 30ish minutes he was on the floor he gave up a 3 to Prince and a floater to Bazemore.

Perhaps. But, it just doesn't seem to be in his DNA.

well we have to see what burke does against better competition. I mean playing against Trae Young is like basically playing against nobody on defense. I agree I dont think Frank was the best player, Timmy deserves that. However like you said Even was Frank isnt scoring his decisions and defense alone give us chances to win which is why he is so damn valuable to our future. The offense will come and im sure in the upcominf games he will have more oppurtunties there
