Yikes:

Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic suffers gruesome leg injury in double overtime win over Nets

The Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic suffered a gruesome left leg injury on a common basketball play

As the Portland Trail Blazers and Brooklyn Nets engaged in a double-overtime game on Monday night, the Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic suffered a gruesome left leg injury on a simple basketball play.
As the Blazers big man was coming down after jumping for an offensive rebound, he came down on his left leg in a very awkward manner, apparently suffering a severely broken left leg.
We are not posting the video in the story but it can be seen here in the highlights of the Blazers win over the Nets, and a warning, the video of the injury is very graphic.
Nurkic was immediately stretchered off of the floor. Blazers and Nets players immediately recognized how bad the injury was by immediately turning their heads and walking away.

The New York Knicks unloaded Tim Hardaway Jr. as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade, which frees up substantial cap space this offseason.

Hardaway is owed $20 million in 19-20 and $18.98 million in 20-21.

"There was at least one team that thought they'd get three first round picks for him this summer to open up space for the Knicks to sign max free agents," said Tim Bontemps.

3 first round picks??? What was that team smoking??

Wiz finally fire Grunfeld, can't believe this:

He had the chance at drafting Curry AND Klay, but ended up with 2 role players (traded the pick that could have been Curry) and Vesley (drafted instead of Klay or Kawhi)

So, IF there is an assumption that the Knicks need the cap space and are kinda/sorta willing to give out that many draft picks (even from another team), you only do so in the event you have a pretty good commitment from a player like Durant (they ain't doing it to sign someone like Tobias). Underlying message is either other teams think they can pull one over on the Knicks (for no other reason) or that the Knicks do indeed have VERY good reason to be desperate for cap space.

Kanter was 10 for 15 last night for 21 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals, plus 23 (whatever that means) in a win. Obviously you'd rather have Nurkic but Enes is keeping hope alive. And the Blazers got him for nothing -- thank you Knicks!

Depends in the picks and depends on the conditional nature of said picks and the timeline of said picks. A GM in place today likely won't have his job 5-6 years from now. So that last pick could be worthless to his own job security. Some picks might trigger into converting to two 2nd rounders over time depending on protections. First round picks also don't convey the pick flip situation ( i.e. the Knicks might give up three but get one back, to skirt some issues with the Stepien Rule)

Market value for a mid round pick ( let's say 15th) is about in that 15-17 million range in terms of salary trade off.

Too many variables in play to say it's a horrible trade. The Knicks could have dumped someone else as well or pick something else up in the mix in a trade like that.

Ask high, after being offered low, settle on something in the middle. This is basic stuff people do at flea markets. The NBA is not that much different.

Hardaway is having surgery to have a rod put in his left leg to correct his stress fracture. KP is very injury prone, didn't want to be in ny and is being investigated for rape. Remember before KP tore his acl he was complaining about how tired he was and saying he would need surgery on his elbow because at his height it was constantly being hit. Maybe with age he fills out and those issues fade but I like that the Knicks got an unprotected pick that ;might be conveyed the first time high school players are allowed to enter the draft. That equals a double draft class. Lottery picks for the first 28. Also, getting dsjr. cap space and picks was a pretty amazing coup. Tim has two years on his deal after this year. Courtney has one year.

Hmmmm very interesting. Good game @ Denver, went to the last minute. Denver got the win.
Kanter 24/7 with 4 assists vs the 2nd best team in the west, and MVP candidate Jokic. Played good D as well.

Thought Kanter was supposed to be out of the league by now LOL.

I liked the guy as a Knick and I'm pulling for him. I get the league has changed and all that but I'd say we're seeing the proof there is a place for him as a significant contributor. Figuring the Knicks let him go primarily as a tank move -- he might have won us a few games.

Kanter's game was best suited for a team with a PG who made the most of his mobility on offense. Watching their last game, Lillard was doing a great job of finding Kanter cutting off screens, and he was getting him the ball where he is most effective. Saw Kanter cut in NY lots of times, waiting for the ball, Lillard is finding him.

Dont know how long he can keep playing at this level, but you're right it does show that Kanter has a place in this league. Conditions have to be right.

He's playing for his next contract

When he was traded to the Knicks, to start, he played balls out all the time. Because he wanted a new contract. When it was clear he wasn't going to get one in NY, he stopped giving a shit. He also stopped giving a shit in Utah and in OKC too. Pattern of behavior.

Can't space the floor, doesn't defend the rim. He put in lots of effort on D recently, not the same as actual effective defense or something that has shown to be consistent. He's getting volume because of injury in front of him.

High individual rebounding numbers usually comes at a tradeoff ( no floor spacing, no rim protection, no defensive responsibilities) Many teams will order their bigs to give up on offensive rebound attempts to get back on D, because the odds favor that strategy.
