Knicks · Would you trade? (page 1)

#1 pick of 2019 NBA draft (most likely Zion), THJr, Lee +/- Dotson for AD knowing that KD is signing here, KP will sign an extension and AD will sign an extension. We would have 4 seven footers in the starting lineup and PG with 7 foot wingspan. What if New Orleans insisted on Knox or Trier instead of Dotson? In this scenario we would have atleast a 3-4 year to win a title. I am not certain if Lakers can offer a better deal for AD. This is also assuming we get the #1 pick in the draft.
jskinny35 @ 1/25/2019 11:17 AM
Would be tough decision, but I'd pass and stay with the youth movement (KD or not). Yes we could possibly win a chip with that lineup but we'd have 1 skinny over 30yr old vet (who will be 35 at end of contact), 1 skinny sometimes injured star in his prime, and KP who is trying to recover from a serious injury as we speak. Zion or whoever we draft could also get injured, but I'm not sure I would even sign KD for a 5 year max unless we had a solid point guard on the roster. I feel our PG situation should be our priority - whether that is in the draft (Ja Morant)or a FA (Rubio).
NYKBocker @ 1/25/2019 11:29 AM
Nope. Stick with Zion.
Moonangie @ 1/25/2019 11:57 AM
It's all about the YOOTs. Let it play out via draft. Fakakta trades always have a way of biting NYK tushy. We need to be done with that.
nyk2017 @ 1/25/2019 5:44 PM
This trade can potentially set us up for a Boston type of situation. In 3 years, hopefully after having won at least 1-2 championships, we can trade these guys for a bunch of first round picks to set up sustainable success. KP can be our Rajan Rondo type player. Robinson can be a more athletic version of Kendrick Perkins. Bench would be more talented with 2 of the three (Trier/Knox/Dotson) + Kornet, etc.

Boston did a similar thing with Pierce, Garnett and Ray Allen.

Panos @ 1/25/2019 6:45 PM
Nope. That feels like when the Knicks put all their eggs in the Melo/Stat/Chandler basket.
You can't win with only bigs. You need balance.
Sambakick @ 1/25/2019 7:37 PM
Of course you make that deal but why on earth would NOPE?

AD and KD are two Top 5 guys. Melo Stat never were (as Knicks).

nykshaknbake @ 1/25/2019 8:32 PM
Tough decision. I feel that Zion will be a great player. And having him on that rookie contract is very valuable. AD is the man, but with KP and AD on longterm deals we are still potentially unsettled at PG with probably zero cap space. I say if you get the number 1 pick go with Zion.
nyk2017 @ 1/28/2019 2:31 PM
Time to make it happen. I would not trade KP.

+1, I agree

I posted this in another thread. If the Knicks sign a PG in the offseason, the team is pretty scary. Something like Kemba/KP/AD would be pretty nasty. Then you add Knox to the mix. All of a sudden Frank starts looking like a pretty damned good fit in the starting lineup

GoNyGoNyGo @ 1/29/2019 8:13 AM
Stick with the draft, add thru Free Agency. Accumulate talent. Trade away Kanter, Lee for sure...Hardaway if you can. Keep the rest and add more young pieces.
VCoug @ 1/29/2019 11:16 AM
It would be tough because I love Zion but I would probably do it as long as AD agrees to an extension. Problem is, I don't think New Orleans does this trade. I doubt they want THJr for another two years so they'll have us swap him with Kanter's expiring deal and there just isn't enough talent going back to them. There going to rightfully ask for some combination of Knox, Mitch Robinson, Trier, and Ntilikina.
ESOMKnicks @ 1/29/2019 7:24 PM
That's why I like the idea of adding Jrue into the mix. With AD gone, NOLA does not need him and his large contract for four years. By swapping him for Tim and Lee, they get to free cap space quicker. But for us, Jrue may be just the type of do-it-all PG we need to contend now. And he'd take pressure off of Frank and be a great mentor to him, so by when Jrue's time is up, Frank will be entering his prime and be ready to take over, there will be contnuity.

AD won't come here, the only Pelican I am interested in is Jrue Holiday, maybe they'll give us a pick to unload him for any combination of Lee/THJR/Mudiay/Burke? We get a good starting PG who plays both sides of the ball and NOP will be lousy for years so any future 1st rounder pick would be solid.

Not a bad option if we strike out in FA. However they can get assets for Jrue

I don’t think Jrue, who is in his prime, will be a salary dump. They should be able to get a 1st rd pick.

He has a large contract and NOP may get into fire sale mode. But given Jrue's mindset he would just keep playing the and never bitch about it.

It’s NOT most likely Zion. As of now, we have a far better chance at getting the 5th pick. If AD were to make a promise to re-sign here, I would trade our pick and filler for him without hesitation. The problem is he stated he’ll only re-sign with the Lakers so if that’s the case, then I am not giving up that $10 dunkin donuts gift card for him. I’ll take my iced coffees with half and half and sweet french vanillia, thank you.

I wouldn't. Promises mean nothing to me and I honestly wouldn't hold it against him if he went back on his word.

People are talking about getting AD without sending a pick, anything is possible - just worth pursuing in my opinion to see what NOP's asking price s for Jrue. Doesn't work out - we lose nothing.
