Knicks · Nets trade Crabbe’s contract and 1st to Hawks (page 1)

smackeddog @ 6/6/2019 4:37 PM

Uh oh, means they likely will sign two max cats and must be confident (otherwise why include 2 firsts).

So looks like Kyrie is definitely signing with them. Hope the other one is Tobias Harris and not KD. Should hopefully take them out of the AD stakes though (earliest 1st round pick they could trade would be 2022)

Nice trade for the Hawks. Looks like the price of taking on a one year $18mil deal is two first round picks

with 46 mill, how will you sign 2 guys maxing out at 32 mill per..

so the rumors to NY are BS but the rumors to the Nets are valid coming from the same outlet...ok

They free up 2 max slots by renouncing D’Angelo. If they don’t renounce him then they only have $46mil.

Why would they trade two firsts this close to free agency unless they know they can sign two max players? Kyrie is signing with him- look at the timings, he was even out in the same club as a bunch of nets players last night, has posted a vid about returning home, and all his people have said he’s signing with the nets

You're the Nets, your PG just had an all-star, breakout season. He's younger, less wear and tear than Irving, a willing passer. Nets can match any offer on Russell. Why would you max out Kyrie, and cut Russell? Doubt that Durant has given the Nets a guarantee at this point.

My guess is that if Irving is a lock for the Nets, they are going to try to run a backcourt of Russell/Irving, with Irving playing off the ball, so it doesnt turn out like it did in Boston, or Houston even.

Have hard time believing Nets would give up on a young All-Star PG who is just starting to show what he can do.

If the Nets can beat the Knicks to the two max free agents the Knicks wanted, I guess they’d hope it made them the premier team in NY (I don’t think it actually will)- after what happened in Boston, them signing Kyrie over Russell is daft, but I get why they’re doing it.

That Woj tweet wording has me worried KD is going there

You give up on Russell if KD say he will sign and wants to play with Kyrie.

Cant build a better team just by signing players the Knicks want. Has to be a good fit. Letting a player like Russell go, just to beat NY in the backpages would sound like something from the Billy King era. If it does happen, will be shocked. Doesnt make any sense.

That would suck. Two guys become very easy to hate as soon as they put on the nets uni.

We’re f***ed! This is THE worst outcome, mainly because we’ll never hear the end of it. I’m okay with a slow rebuild via the draft, but the mocking of us will be unbearable when the Nets land the two guys we wanted and we end up with nothing

Dont believe Durant has made any promises to the Nets. If thats the ultimatum though, I hope the Nets go for it. Better them than us. Id rather see the Knicks max out Russell, if its a choice between the two.

To be optimistic for a moment...maybe, just maybe the Hawks made this trade to send 8, 10 and 17 to the Knicks for pick 3. We include all 3 picks in a package for AD?

I think we could move the third to the Cavs for their fifth and a future first, then draft whomever the Hawks (I presume either cam reddish or Culver), then flip who you picked at 5th to the Hawks for those three

If the Nets let Russell go, they will be very lucky to get two seasons before 36 year old Durant starts feeling his age. Not to mention a player who has trouble staying on the court like Irving. Who would be playing PG? Has that worked in the playoffs anywhere? Under those circumstances it doesnt look good on paper either.

Last franchise to instabuild a legit championship contender was Miami. Even with all that firepower they lost their first try. Took LeBron (still well in his prime) putting the Heat on his back to get them to the promised land.

Im guessing we would have a couple of seasons (if we're lucky) with a superstar in his mid 30s, and another one who misses a lot of games. Sorry, dont believe its as good a bet as some of you guys do.

GustavBahler @ 6/6/2019 6:13 PM
Forgot to add Cleveland, was thinking more of the star power on Miami, with Wade already having a ring. LeBron was in his prime as well. Kyrie was off the ball, younger, healthier.
