Knicks · So what do we do know with FA KD situation (page 1)
Anthony Davis can be signed outright next year if he's traded anywhere other than the lakers
Cole Anthony, Barett, Knox, Davis, Mitch
Cap space galore to sign the strongest bench in recent history
+ Draft picks to trade along with any of our starters for a legit superstar Robin to Davis' Batman
Knixkik wrote:Call me crazy but I’m still signing KD. The thing about cap space is you eventually have to use it. It’s not like signing him costs us any assets. Less and less prominent players will hit free agency due to the supermax and player movement so I’m not relying on future free agencies. I’m signing the best available players and relying on player development and our surplus of picks to improve the roster over time. Barrett, Mitch , and Knox make for an excellent young core, but we need to bring in players that can show them how to win. That’s what cap space is for.
When I saw it last night...I was like hell no...but I may be tempted into drinking that Kool aid too....I think I would sign him roll with Barrett and kids...and whoknows what disgruntled all-star shakes loose at the deadline. The whole thing while KD is out is to develop the kids futher acquire assets to get someone else that can help him when he comes back. I would roll those dice.

Exactly right. Having KD in the back pocket is a great thing , even injured. We have a surplus of cap space and draft assets so we can afford to take some chances. We can improve many ways even after signing him while developing the youth at the same time. Ultimately this whole thing depends on the development of Barrett Knox and Mitch so there’s nothing wrong with using cap space to take chances around them.

Ok, I’ll do it.
CRAZY! Actually both of you?
Is this what years of suffering has done to you? With a clean slate you would rather self inflict more pain unnecessarily?
Because your idea is based on an illusion that goes against history. What am I talking about? The only way your logic makes sense is if signing Durant to the max and waiting for a year while basically going into another losing season to tank again, a thing of the past now, resulting in another young star while after that year gettin an all-new, still superstar Durant.
Yeah, sound plan!
Except Durant’s injury is a devastating one that may never render him the same superstar considering other players who have suffered it. Except an injured Durant doesn’t get you the second superstar, part of the previous objective. Except tanking doesn’t work effectively anymore. Except what is the point of doing this when you can let things play out and keep your options open while Durant probably picks his last year players option, uses the full year to rehab at the Warriors’ expense and then becomes an unrestricted free agent, hopefully proving he can still play and get him at the price he deserves that year? I MEAN, WE HAVE A CLEAN SLATE AND DONT NEED THIS POINTLESS PAIN.
Haven’t we learned from past experiences with players past their primes and/or injured that have burned us?
If you can’t get a package of Leonard and Thompson, stay the course, keep the slow rebuilding and keep the flexibility to strike in a better situation.
Vmart wrote:KD will turn 32 before he steps on the court. Is that worth waiting for? Also not many players recover from their Achilles injury to perform at their best level. The severity of the Achilles injury may shed light on his recovery.
Yeah I agree with you. Watching KD walk of the court reminded me of when Kobe left the court with the same injury. Seeing how mobile KD needs to be effective I would hold off. Granted DeMarcus Cousins is a different style of player but he looks like his mobility has yet to come back.

You have many points but my thought is you can sign KD AND stay the course. We aren’t sacrificing assets. We will continue to build the right way. You have to use cap space. You can sign KD and also continue to collect assets via trade. Being bad every year is not a solution and won’t develop these young guys properly. Add stars, even injured ones when possible, and built this team with the right combination of young talent , veteran talent , and continue to acquire draft capital for flexibility. You can’t keep deferring year after year. We can build properly and take some chances too. I’m not all in with any direction yet but it’s just my thought.

The fact is that we just started to rebuild the right way...but for every PHI 5 to 7 year rebuild you have PHX in a perpetual rebuild.
Most good players drafted do not shake loose until their second contract...that is roughly 9 years...if we hold the cap space who are we going to use it on in 2020...2021...22....Greek Freak...forget that wet dream....AD?..after he taken the “man” status from LeBron...who else...not saying we have blow it on KD...but this is a calculated risk.KD is a jump shooter and a slasher...even 85% KD is better than 3/4 of the league.

KD is opting in... This all conversation is pointless.
Fans can talk about taking any risks. FO cannot do this.
Knicks will talk to Leonard and Thompson (if he even agree to talk) to do their do diligence and will continue with rebuild as planned.
AD is the question for next year FA if he will still be available.

I posted an article on the history of guys coming back from an Achilles injury. The outcome is really bad. My first thought was sign KD but I was thinking of the recovery as more similar to an acl type injury.

I can't imagine carrying a non-productive super-max contract for four years after 20 or so mediocre seasons. Why not resign Melo to a supermax for four years?
Lunacy to do so.

Riiiiiiiiiiigt...
This is the same forum that went crazy criticizing Ron Baker's contract.
I can't imagine carrying a non-productive super-max contract for four years after 20 or so mediocre seasons. Why not resign Melo to a supermax for four years?
Lunacy to do so.
We can’t sign him to the supermax. KD at 85% is worth what we can pay him and more than any other player we can likely attract on the open market. Just saying.
Sign him for 50% of Supermax. That will average out to about 85% after the year of recovery (assuming he doesn't reinjure it yet again).
But thinking through, unless he takes a small discount AND we're able to get another superstar, I'd pass. Too much like Amare where we get one half of one amazing season, and a crippling contract for 4 years.
I'd through everything at Leonard and Klay Thompson. If I strike out, I resign Mudiay to a reasonable deal, same with Mario, Vonleh and DeAndre Jordan. And I continue to remain flexible with my assets and try to organically build up a winner.

Please no Mudiay and Mario. Literally zero upside in bringing them back in my opinion. I’d rather just save our money than do that.
