Seems like both teams got the kind of players they like

Conley is very good but very expensive and there's always the injury risk

I am quite surprised by the move; had some sense that CP3 could end up in Utah

Dude Grizzlies just str8 up punked Utah!!!! On top of all the assets...Conly making some big salary cap mula

This is a really bad move for Utah. I mean. Conley was on the trading block last season and it looked like Memphis just wanted to dump his contract. To come away with so many assets its really impressive for the Grizz and pretty bad for Utah.

Utah should have a rule that only allows them to trade with Denver (that's how they got Donovan and Gobert)

what assets did they come away with

1)kover 17 yr pro who's thinking about retiring

2)grayson allen--I forgot he was even in the league, can someone say jimmer

3)Crowder- avg player

4)23 pick in a weak ass draft

5)A future 1st rnd pick from a what is now (utah) a top 5 western conference team..good luck with the 27th pick

I (cough-cough) agree with 1248 hear. Not sure if Memphis was ever to "dump" him. He got healthy and the heel thing don't happen again to the same foot. He is in Memphis, that's why he under rated. he is 32 with two years left.
Utah is not winning a chip with that team but they are a "team" well coached and sometimes stars get hurt in the playoffs and they can beat you. Toronto was not that great, GSW at full strength was going to kill them. But things happen. Only game in town and they did not mortgage the future. Good for them. All players have risks!

I agree with this. Utah paid a little to much. But it’s a solid move for Utah’s current situation. Pick #23 and the other pick will be late round picks. Conley gives them a 4th high level player who fits their style to a T.

not even sure Utah paid too much. They are now absolutely contending for a top 2 seed in the West. Conley is so good. I would have loved him here to lead our young team. Jazz are really build well and balanced. I think this is a great move for them. They 100% chance can compete for a title if those guys are healthy. Maybe some depth etc but they are right in the mix and an opponent injury or a hot streak from Donovan to making a very deep run.

It also mean Rubio is available and I would very much like to bring him in.

Objectively, the last three points are more than expected from a clear salary dump from the Grizzlies. They desperately wanted to start the rebuilding and pick Morant without the problem of having Conley there. While he is talented, he hasn't been even close to the value of his contract and the injury worry made him a tricky trade prospect. But to come away with two first round draft picks is a coup no matter how much dirt you want to throw over them. The 23rd has value and Utah is an injury away from having that second pick being more valuable, especially if you take into account the new odds in the lottery.

So yeah, the trade was a great one for Memphis. Some teams have to give up assets to dump a contract and they actually got nice value for a player they desperately wanted to move over from.
