However, agree that Knicks need to stay away from that scenerio and pick RJ along with a few short term deal FA's. That is.... after they strike out with all the top tier guys. (Which they will)

If Warriors want to extend a guilt laden olive branch and also appear to be a franchise of valor its a good idea so long as the trade is for a minimal amount in return.
We could for example sign a player or two NOW, and then make that trade to GSW by the deadline next year. It helps GSW tread water until Klay returns. Thus they use KD's bird rights. Say Tobias Harris wants to be a Warrior? Or Boogie wants back. We sign them then trade when its legal.
If they want a haul in return for Durant the it does not serve KD's purpose other than the money.

True but for the Knicks his bird rights don't mean anything because we are so far under the cap. The idea is to get a ton of players on rookie deals in a short span. Like 5 or 6 high lottery picks in 3 seasons. Sign 2 max players than go over the cap with bird rights to keep your young players.

If the warriors accept that KD could leave for nothing, the agent and KD can win maximum salary via sign and trade. They can trade him for any assets other teams are willing to give up. Consider the scenarios that were floated around to squeeze 3 max players (ie the AD trade). We have to renounce rights or include players in the trade.
If they want a package of Hezonja, Mudiay, Frank and cash, we can swing that. All in the spirit of convincing KD we’re willing to go the extra mile and get him the extra millions only the gsw can offer.

You can manage one heavy salary guy without his Bird Rights, but more than that is just too difficult. Consider Durant's injury makes his trade price more moderate, where another FA target in a potential sign and trade would cost more in trade.
If Durant comes to NY, he wants to win now and more veterans are coming and that cap space will burn out fast. It looks like a lot, but it's not.
So the Warriors break KD by bringing him back too early, and make out they're doing him a solid by making another team pay him for 5 years while they get a giant trade exemption and don't have to pay him a penny. And they try to spin this as a classy move!

How much cap space do we save by trading for Durant? Is it 7 million? That is signifigant enough to think about. They basically have to take him for a protected 2nd rounder or Frank or something like that. Im not giving them 2 firsts and Mitch that would be crazy for that savings

This was always going to be there as an option for GSW- we did S&T Amare. But, only after you have an agreement. Now, maybe KD wants to go back to OKC- he gets an agreement first with some sucker like us with cap space, goes to GSW, and says - I'm leaving, but am happy to S&T in a deal to OKC. Work out the details, which KD & his agent will already know about beforehand.
Early on, I was for signing KD, one leg and all. Not now. For me, it's Kawhi or pretty much bust. I'll definitely consider a player like Randle, but at that point, I'm bringing back some of my guys from last year- Vonleh, Mario, Mudiay, Jordan- maybe not all on short term deals, but reasonable contracts, and seeing what I can continue to grow and develop.
Guys like DSjr, Dotson, Knox, Trier, Robinson, Frank & Mudiay all are at the point where they need to take strides forward or their finished in the league.
Them, and RJ and some of our picks coming need to become winners.

Today its how was the surgery, was there a structural problem that was there before, will it be there again, and his other foot have a future propensity for it to happen. Then determine or best guess what he returns as. YOu also consider his heart and work habits. How well has he taken care of his body (Invested) and his biological makeup.
Then determine what is the potential next season look like and value of assets we have and plan for growth and expect disappointment. Yes, plan for setbacks. No GM expects to win every game or think injuries don't happen. Fans react. Teams plan for them.
Nalod can't and won't tackle all this and make a choice. Lazy ass open concept fans don't even think about what they don't know.
I want Durant here if enough of the boxes I laid out get checked in the manner I expect a good outcome. If not, we pass.

If Durant comes here it's because he wants to accomplish what other greats couldn't, or in the case of LBJ were too chicken to try.
On the other hand, I have to imagine KD is having some doubts now. Pre-injury he may have felt like he could make it happen, but KD at 80% (might still be awesome but not championship-level-awesome. He might be thinking he can stay with GS and they would remain perennial contenders and probably win more rings.
Will be a tough, tough decision by him.
