I am also sensing an attitude that they may not fight vey hard to get anybody big name wise.....As in if Durant or Kyrie gets a decent offer from another team the Knicks are like "Let that guy sign somewhere else " .
After a season of strong Durant/IRving rumors, we ignored math of draft and dreamed of Zion it was all very seductive to think big.
You bring up a good point. So many ways to use cap space. We can derive assets by facilitating absorption of contracts teams want to move.
Until the opportunity of Kawhi, Durant and Irving are dried up we still have them. Opportunity.
Recall when Philly paid Reddick 24mil for one season two years ago? Really helped them! He made half last year.
I'd like to think we are in the running for Kawhi/Russell. Even Russell and Randle might be a nice addition.

It would be the right thing to do. This team needs to create its own star players once that is done other will come.

Yeah but don’t overpay to the point that you can’t get Anthony Davis next Summer. I’m not against that though. I do want to see Dennis Smith jr taking a big step forward this coming season though.

If you don't get one of the A-list free agents, I don't believe we should sign players who can't turn the team around in short order, or someone whose playing time will retard the growth of our younger players.
If you can't get the big dogs, let our puppies go through the process of growth together, even if it is painful, and become a pack.

It's a fine line....we could overpay them one year, but it might take more guaranteed money and additional year to entice them to come to a rebuilding team. That might kill our ability to move them later on.

Age and this injury make that signing really risky. Kyrie doesn’t push the current roster over the top and is a risk in the locker room and with young players. Teams with cap space, a boat load of picks and salary controlled players can be opportunistic and acquire stars if an opportunity comes up.

agree too. We should try for Kawhi. If that works we can look for an immediate shooter, e.g., Middleton or Klay (though even more unlikely than Kawhi). If we can't get Kawhi, we move on and build the old fashioned way. (P.s., I don't think anyone knows what Kawhi will do)

Easier said than done, especially with the Knicks. Requires organizational discipline and continuity, but I'll take them at their word, for now.

Not sure we've ever had this many younger players under our control at one time.
Seems like a perfect time to play it smart in FA and let a young team be nurtured by Fizdale, and have him instill his system on them at a young age.
I don't want to hear anything about him delaying the teaching process. We should see these guys playing the offensive ball he would want a team of veterans to play.

I like Morris on a 2-3 year contract, team option, of course, but his dollar is over bloated. He made 5.375 mil last year and is a UFA. He would be a good pick up for way less.
