Knicks · Taj Gibson 2 years 20 mill with Knicks (page 2)

Not a big fan of this signing as I would have preferred BPortis.
But solid citizen, vet presence and experience are attributes.

Gibson, 34, averaged 10.8 points and 6.5 rebounds this past season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He shot 56.6 percent from the field.

There were better options out there.

Thank god we cleared Hardaway and Lee for Taj Gibson.

He really hasn't taken a steep decline statistically. I haven't watched him or Minny this year, but he looks like he's still a solid bug off the bench.

They cleared those 2 thinking of A-level FAs coming here.

With that dream dead, you want a younger B-level player like Randle, or veterans like Gibson who can be a positive influence on a young front court and not screw up your future payroll.

He'll keep our younger players in line and on task, I hope, and has enough in the tank to push them a bit in practice, and add some toughness on the court.

codeunknown @ 6/30/2019 9:15 PM
Decent back-up player, solid positional defender and reasonable mentor. The financial terms are suspicious.
jskinny35 @ 6/30/2019 9:15 PM
Only thing is would have preferred to resign Vonleh as he is younger and still has some upside

Looks like Perry is trying to find players who wont take minutes from our recent draft picks Complimentary players to the current roster.

Come on man Taj is finished. This move makes no sense. The Knicks realize we need shooters right?

GustavBahler @ 6/30/2019 9:22 PM
We sign Rolo, that would make for a very good offseason. Not contingent on it, but would be nice.

WOW...interesting chart, Martin.
I had no idea that both Randle and Gibson were that efficient.

Fucking joke. Do people on here watch NBA basketball? These two guys are good for the 90s NBA. Taj I believe is old enough to have played in late 90s. Randle's game style was passed by the modern NBA years ago. Smells like Mills still infected by Uncle Phil disease.
Randle was a bust in LA because he had NO bball IQ or played any defense. Cant shoot from, outside.
Shit, just sign Vonleh for pennies. So Randle goes to NO and with Davis out pads his numbers and the dumb ass Knicks bite and pay him $21M a year.

31 Million gone on these two? Good thing we gave up on KP, Kyrie and KD for theae two.

Cue the Knick fans used to losing noting the elustrious bright side of these 2. Fuck,,rather they resigned some of the young guys from last year and once again go for a lottery pick. Instead they hand out 31 Million to do the same??

Durant and Irving will be lucky if they are on the court at the same time. We would have to wait a year or more to find out. This was the future you wanted? Randle and Gibson wont be here beyond 2 years when free agency gets interesting again. Should we have maxed out Cousins instead?

Solid vet, calming locker room presence, plays good D...w could do worse. He's still an upgrade over Vonleh.

Solid signing . We needed a back up for randle. He can also play the 5

I completely disagree
We traded KP and contracts I thought to get young guys that might grow with our core

Does some things at an elite level, thats the point. If Randle got 4 years I would get the trepidation. We need scoring in the paint, Mitch doesnt have a post game to speak of yet. Guessing Randle is on a 2 year deal (with team option) precisely for the reasons you cited.

Perry gave himself the room to go out and sign that type of player (or trade for him) with these short term deals.

Helpme put here...
Taj is 34. Range is 5 feet. Randle has a range of 3 feet and cant play defense.
Do you SEE a problem with those type of players in todays NBA?
And Your telling me that we waived LT, who was a 1 million dollar bench vet for a $10 million dollar bench vet who may break a hip in 2019??
And we dont sign a guy like Vonleh for pennies but sign Randle to 20 million?? So he can use his 20 million as we ride the season to the lottery?

Is this why the Knicks FO needed to publically apologize to their fans 3 hpurs into free agency?

They both bring interior scoring to offset Mitch's lack of experience. Im sure Perry would have loved to fulfill your wish list. Probably would have overpaid to do it. Next season is about the young core learning how to win. Perry found players to address some needs while giving himself the flexibility to upgrade the roster if an opportunity presents itself in the near future

Plan B is about staying with the rebuild, waiting for the right time to make a big move. Not make a big move just for the sake of giving the fans something to talk about, like past regimes.
