They haven’t even been given a chance to show what they can do. Payton contact seems more like a gift from Perry.

As I wrote earlier...If Frank had just been handed the keys to the PG position from day one, and given 30MPG like Payton has always been given, his stats would have been the same as what Payton has put up every year for 5 years.

Dumb pickup which hurts guys you were hoping to see develop.

This might be Perry trying to prove that giving up a lot to Philly to trade for Payton was a good idea, despite his limited improvement as a player after 5 years in the league.

Frank wasn’t a point guard in Europe. At 18 he came to a different country and had to try to learn a new position and n the toughest league in the world. He was pencilled in for 21 minutes a night no matter what. He got tired in early February that year. Last year he was hurt for half the season. How svsituation with the Knicks hasn’t been great. If he was going to be an nba point guard he needed to go to Westchester and play on the ball a ton. He isn’t going to play point for the Knicks. They see him as a wing.

Not quite true. He was the lead ball handler when playing with his generational group. He did play more off the ball with his pro team, but he did run the offense from time to time. I won't say he won't play PG for an NBA team, but it probably won't be in the sense that many expect. I keep bringing up Diaw, because 1): They have similarly rough shooting percentages and 2) They were pigeonholed into positions that didn't necessarily fit. Diaw was brought in as an athletic swingman, but he frustrated people with his unselfishness.

Thanks, Big Daddy I had the same question

If the Knicks smarten up they would realize they need him to guard the point. If not trade him to someone else. Playing him on the wing emphasizes his weaknesses and doesn't utilize his strengths. There's all the reason in the world to think he can be a defensive presence guardingthe point -- better version of Marcus Smart.

As a starting point he needs to hit open jumpers. People sag off he needs to punish them. Then if they play tight he puts them on his hip and uses his length for midrange and in floaters. Keep it simple. Trying to turn him into a chucker or a wing was a big mistake that the Knicks need to own up to

Frank did not have the stamina to play 30 minutes a game, thats a fantasy.

Perhaps he shouldn't have played as hard on D...always easier to stay fresh if you don't play serious defense.

He did average over 30MPG at the end of his first season, and for the month of October, his second season, and, surprise surprise, his 3 PT shooting was around 37% over those games.

He needs to get stronger, and he has, to some extent, but you don't build stamina unless you play.

You push a player beyond the limits of their endurance, thats when injuries happen. Hornacek said that 20 minutes was about all he could handle at the time. Still trying to get in NBA shape. Frank got 20 minutes a game last season, still missed most of it with a serious groin injury. Frank got 20 minutes a game his rookie year, no matter how poorly he played. He was treated very well by Hornacek. Frank got 20 minutes a game last season, and regressed. Nobody's fault but his. He wants to play 30 minutes a game, he should try earning it.

Ok. Then this deal isn't that bad.

Pretty much all the outside shooting is gonna come form guys like RJ and Knox and that doesn't inspire confidence, at least not next season

players will sag off of him which will cut into the space RJ would otherwise cut; they'll cut down on the passing angles to Randle et al.

I'm glad he cut his hair, but this is not a good move IMO. We'll see. At least it's short term.

Has DSJ started sulking yet?

Has DSJ started sulking yet?

He is about to.

You know this because....

Because he is now Frank and Payton is Mudiay

Since when is competition form playing time a bad thing?

Granted we have a terrible coach who played mudiay to the detriment of everyone

dwiley20 @ 7/1/2019 6:43 PM
I wated Rondo, but this is the same dtat line....im cool with it
martin @ 7/1/2019 7:58 PM
Ha I like this contrast

TheGame @ 7/1/2019 8:21 PM
The good thing is that Fizdale actually got Mudiay shooting better (although he still sucked). Payton is a much better floor general and a better defender. If Fizdale can get Payton shooting better, we would have something.

Ahhh this guy will definitely be our starting pg. the guy can be a triple double machine and has excellent court vision

He's Ja Morant.... without hops.
anrst @ 7/2/2019 12:15 AM
Can he play alongside smith in same lineup?

Elf as the defender and facilitator and Smith as the scoring guard?

I just wish smith could shoot better ... any reason for hope on that?

The 2 are nowhere near the same.... but if you want a silver lining, Elfrid has a pretty superior assist to TO ratio at least.

Defensive player of the year in college.........

Frank can’t be happy with this signing.

Frank can turn the switch right now if he wants. He never lacked ability.

Do the Knicks have a shooting specialist on the CS?
Uptown @ 7/2/2019 10:44 AM
Payton plays a lot like Rondo without the flare...Plays at his own pace, has really good vision, cerebral, defends, but has a questionable jumper.
CrushAlot @ 7/2/2019 11:04 AM
Saw this in an article about Peyton yesterday.
