I was very young but I remember the main goal was stealing Jordan. Knicks had cap space and knew he was interested. Obviously the Bulls came with a massive offer and Jordan stayed. The knicks pivoted to grabbing Allan Houston who, similar to Randle, was young and proven. He still had allstar potential , just not franchise altering talent. Childs and buck Williams were quality role players brought in for toughness. I see the similarities. We were in a different spot as a team but hopefully this free agency proves to be somewhat successful like that one.
Hmm...you sure you don't mean Reggie Miller?
Jordan was even less of a chance. I remember the Miller rumors, but Jordan? I honestly must say don't recall that.

It was summer of 96 my bad. And Jordan was the plan.
This was in away similar...
But then after Pat start falling apart we start making one mistake after another.
Including this ridiculous Huston contract.
We just recovered from all this 20 years calamity to get to ground zero.
Hopefully this time around we will break this fools circle...
I don't remember the media being anywhere near as bad back then when we missed out on Reggie and signed Houston- it's like now they actively try to pretend that they're idiots to get attention.

That’s cause you had to dial into the internet back then. No twitter, all AOL and compuserve discs. And instead of Woj we were left with Peter Vescey
