Seeing them all struggle to find a landing place at varying stages of their careers.

Stat only. We have enough PGs and stat is the only one of the 3 with enough winning experience in which he made a contribution. I don’t care about feel good stories right now. I care about building a great team. I think signing Stat or Vince Carter could be a helpful move.

Do we? We have a ton of dubious question marks at PG.
I'd bring Lin in if we had a roster spot. He certainly isn't the answer, and hasn't really played an entire season in a long time. But I think he could help, probably contribute to some winning and helping build team play.
So instead of giving those limited available minutes at PG to Frank, you would rather the Knicks sign Lin. Come on guys.

A day after telling The Post last summer that he hadn’t heard anything from the Nets about being traded and that he didn’t anticipate a move, Lin got shipped to Atlanta. He played 51 games for the rebuilding Hawks, but started just one and clearly wasn’t at his best physically. He eventually was bought out and waived in January.
“After the season, I had to get ready for this Asia trip. And it was the last thing I wanted to do, because I knew for six weeks I would have to just put on a smile,” Lin said. “I would have to talk about a championship that I don’t feel like I really earned. I would have to talk about a [basketball] future I don’t know if I want to have. And honestly, it’s just embarrassing. It’s tough.”
“Nowadays I spend more time thinking about quitting,” Lin admitted. “I always tell myself if I have a son, I don’t want him to make the NBA. You don’t have to deal with fame, you don’t have to deal with living your life and having all your failures on display to the world.”
THat is sad. He earned his money on his NBA play and the potential. he got hurt often and did not reach that. But he played and started for team and needs to find some level of truth that he did succeed at some level.
Perhaps the hype built up expectation and he feels the weight of being the "Asian Sensation" and all that hope he'd have a better career.

I guess I missed it this year when Frank showed he belong in the NBA. Must have been all the games he missed while hurt.
Hey, if Frank can play better than Lin, absolutely, he should play. But lets set a low bar of expectations, and if players can't meet that minimum, they don't play.
Lin is just about out of the league. That is a low bar. If Frank can't beat him out, does he have a future?

Lin doesn't take PEDS. Everyone in the league knows this.
Here is where he would be useful
A) He is a good locker room guy. Very solid. Everyone who has played with him/coached him just plain loves him ( besides douches like Harden/Howard/Byron Scott)
B) He will always be a marketing boon to any team
C) When the league tests for PEDS, they do it randomly by player and BY TEAM. If the league wanted to skirt past Knicks player X with their PEDS cycling, they can just test Lin, who will always be clean. The league will test strategically to ensure certain players and certain teams are "go ready" for specific broadcasts/playoffs/events etc. During the big Xmas games, you'll see zero testing on the elite guys that are featured around that timeline. Same for the playoffs.
Lin just doesn't use PEDS. It's made his career harder in terms of injury. His style of play also makes it harder on him. He's also not a high IQ player. He makes some dumb decisions that at times put his health at more risk.
Career wise, being near Kenny Atkinson was the best thing to happen to him. Then getting some time with Eric Musselman. He needed more high level coaching than he sought out on his own. He's an example of a player who needed a personal manager for his career growth. If he was properly managed, he would have gone to Spolestra or Carlisle, contract size or AAV be damned.
From a personality standpoint, to succeed in pro sports, you need to be very selfish. He just wasn't built personality wise to be selfish enough in his career.
Lin love. The gift that just keeps on giving. He's possibly the only idiot in the league with an airball layup highlight. And a ring!
His interview/press conference whatever it was, made it sound like he's some sort of victim that's not getting a chance.

He went from the feel-good, flash in the pan from Harvard that made good at the Mecca, ending up as trade flotsam that had to be dumped with 1st round picks. I guess getting outplayed and replaced by Patrick Beverly didn't teach him any lessons in humility.
