Knicks · Iso joe over ISO melo (page 1)
No way is 38 yr old joe johnson a better option than 35 yr old melo

Joe Johnson’s NBA book has room for another chapter and it appears that Detroit could be the place for him to write it. The 38-year-old worked out for the Pistons on Tuesday and Frank Isola of The Athletic hears that the team is the favorite to sign the veteran shooting guard.Johnson was expected to workout for the Nets this week but that hasn’t occurred, a source tells Brian Lewis of The New York Post. Some of the team’s players get the sense that Johnson isn’t coming to Brooklyn. Brooklyn is staring at depth issues on the wing with Kevin Durant expected to miss most of the season, Rodions Kurucs likely facing a suspension and Wilson Chandler sitting out for the first 25 games.
As is the case if Johnson joins Brooklyn, Detroit presents him with an opportunity to earn minutes. The team’s guard rotation lacks a traditional shooting guard with size. The Pistons’ wing rotation lacks players who can consistently get buckets. If Iso Joe can recapture his part of old game, he’ll fill both voids.Another Johnson-dot worth connecting is Arn Tellem, who is the Pistons’ vice chairman. Tellem previously represented Johnson along with a long list of players prior to joining Detroit’s front office.
Detroit is carrying 14 guaranteed contracts with Christian Wood and Michael Beasley expected to compete for the 15th spot. The team could give that spot to Johnson or make a corresponding move to rid themselves of a guaranteed contract either by trade of by waiving a player. Regardless of how the Pistons decide to add Johnson, it appears the 7-time All-Star’s last run has a real chance to happen in Detroi

What is your basis to determine? What about willingness to accept the subservient role as a bench player most nights?
From what I have read Melo the person is never the issue. Melo is not "blackballed" as that would infer conspiracy. Melo "issues" from what I have read is predicated on basketball and ability to play a certain way.
What does Knicks1248 offer to the reason you think melo would be a better fit for Detroit?

You can make the case that Joe Johnson the end of the bench role player is better than Melo. He was pretty efficient in 2017. It also helps that Melo has a better reputation around the league

he already said on multiple occasions that he would take a reduced role on any playoff bound team..

What Melo intends/says and what he does on the last three teams has not been consistent. When he resigned with knicks he said he'd play triangle and sacrifice his game. He did not.
OKC was not a good experience. Despite his differences with MDA, they had a reunion in Houstan. Lasted 15 games? he played 7. I was not in the room when he was asked to leave, but he was. Can't blame MDA there either.
Maybe there is a trust issue here. teams don't trust melo or his ego. Good dude. Good teammate. Maybe can only play a certain way. HOF career. Can't say I blame him. Not for me to trust him or not.
I don't believe players words. I believe in actions.
Joe is tight with Gentry. It matters.
Does melo want to go into a situation where he has to compete for a spot? Does Melo want to play for Nets and when Wilson Chandler comes back he is out?
Im not saying whats right or not, im just asking the questions that Melo is looking at.

Joe Johnson is proven in a bench role as a scorer. The biggest concern about Melo is that he hasn't been able to buy into that same type of role. Melo is trying to convince teams of something Joe is already proven in.

Melo is too good to play him as a end of bench and to inefficient to have a bigger role.
He is in no mans land in NBA.
Unfortunately it is not up to him or not up to the teams. This is reality.
This kind of players should just retire on their own terms and do some other things in life and/or around bbal.
Joe or Vince are completely another story. They declined gradually and accepted the situation whatever it was.
People are all different and they change.
Melo so far did not change... but who knows... may be he can. Not sure if he get an opportunity to change after all.

KD can pass the blame on Melo.....KD will look good in contrast.

Again, go look at the pistons roster, half of the damn team was shooting in the low 40%..
He can't even get a non guaranteed contract, a camp invite, a phone call.
Hell yeah he's been blackballed

Do you know if he has been offered a non guarantee, invite or a call?
Is he actually cool with that, or does he want a roster spot? Is he being blackballed or his conditions not being met?

I thought the same thing. Even a KD at 80% will look better than Melo.

Melo is a net negative player when he was shooting 43-44% and he was younger. Now he is shooting worse and older which make him a bigger net negative player. If you’re a GM you can spot the difference between a certain type of 40% shooting.

BS. If we was net negative when he was younger, then explain why did we lose more when he wasn't on the floor?
A certain type of 40% shooting. That's priceless.
Melo blackballed? I don't think so. IsoJoe was willing to go flash what he has left in Big3. Don't see Melo doing anything like that. Again, it's not what Melo says, (He told Morey "what? I can't break into a 9 man rotation?") it's what Melo does. Apparently he's not going to make any headway with GM's going to practices and workouts.
every player that has played with him this off season has been baffled how this guy has not been giving another chance..this clip from the JUMP says it all
