Bro. I had Josh Jackson no.2 on my big board that draft night and was certainly open to the idea of taking him (and Booker) as the principals of a KP trade; so the trajectory of his career has been alarming to say the least. He's been so bad that he might not survive his rookie contract, let alone sniff gauranteed money ever again.
NBA busts don't happen in a vacuum though and I think that the Suns' developmental program is highly suspect. Outside of Booker, what do they really have to show after all those lottery picks? Juries still out on Ayton and Bridges but those were always understood to be ready-made prospects. Anyway, I hope that being around a stable organization, with some standup vets could resurrect Jackson's career.
Honestly he is a a really, really bad influence but I would not regret sending a late second (conditional pick)for him to kick the tires in our G league team this year. If he shows he still can still be a NBA worthy player and gets his life together off the court then they could move him to the NBA roster next year.
The only real cost would be a roster spot since as salary goes the Knicks are saving it for anything in particular.

THis is what Memphis is doing. Rebuilding and trying things. He swims or sinks. If he can’t get his shyt together in Gleague he’s not in a good place.

True, we might've ended up with Fox. But nearly everyone had Jackson slotted in that spot. Jackson was highly touted. I don't think anyone thought he would end up in the G-League in two seasons.

I'm not sure about that. I know Lauri was rumored, but I don't think he was slotted with that fourth pick. I think Lauri was on our radar if we moved a few picks up or we traded down. Moot, because we could never get him in for a workout and the trade never happened.
Booker was an absolute steal at #13 (Same draft as KAT and Porzingis).
Ayton - solid enough pick for #1 overall. He could be a 20/10 player for the next decade if he's not too much of a liability in the modern NBA. But... players like Mitchell Robinson and Jarrett Allen are the "present" and perhaps more desirable young centers of the modern NBA, following the blueprint of Rudy Gobert. They come a much lower draft price (Mitch obviously #36; Allen #22). In an alternate universe Doncic might be blowing things up in a freewheeling, freeshooting offense alongside Booker. (kind of makes me think of a "What If" world where the Trailblazers drafted Jordan to play alongside Drexler...)
Anyway, too bad about Jackson. They missed out on Fox one pick later (they needed a PG) and both Ntilikina and DSJ. :)
I was definitely on the JJ bandwagon back then... he can't shoot yet but he's physically gifted and plays hard on defense. I think it's a mental makeup issue and/or the Suns organization and lack of development. They had 4 point guards for a few years and then had none for the last few years? No defensive urgency for Booker, Ayton or the rest. This year they bring in Rubio and a new coaching staff - we'll have our answer mid-season if Booker is still on the Suns roster or not. Think the Grizzlies are handling it right - JJ has no leverage and if he was entitled - this should do the trick. If not we'll watch him tear up the Big 3 league soon.
man, I don't know who's at fault. maybe the scouts got it wrong? maybe he didn't take the game seriously when he was thrust into the nba? true about sun's player development. it isn't good at all. I remembered he was supposed to have the size and tools to succeed in todays positionless nba. well, it doesn't look that way now.
