Knicks · With all due respect was Dennis Smith Jr always this bad? We need to build this kid back up! (page 2)

It can't any worse than Fiz get to work with and it can't be any worth than we have now at PG position.
Fiz can be fired but it will not change anything except of expectations.
Fiz was expected to be a miracle worker but he is not. Surprise.
People should thank him for being around to take a blame even if this is his only purpose.
1.) curating the roster pool into players who we want to continue to invest in and those we don't
2.) establish a team identity based on those choices
3.) establish a team culture that includes a style or system of play that produces consistent opportunities to win games.
For point #1 - we have players who can play both offense and defense. Its where the league is and its where we need to be. The metric is defense. Who passes muster and who doesn't?
So when we talk about DSJ, yes he's a young guy who should know that the time to get into shape and hone the A game is the summer. Did he do that? NO. That speaks to character. In games that matter, has he looked out for the best of the team or himself? I leave it to the fan to decide.
The point is that taking losses to help DSJ get his stuff together is not something I think Knicks fans will have much tolerance for. While none of Frankie, Payton, or Allen have the offensive ceiling that DSJ teases, they play a two way game that makes up for it.
Until DSJ can add value to the game, he should sit or better yet get moved.
We need to invest in what works best not in trying to change Randall, DSJ, or anyone else into somebody they are not. Play the strengths.
Coaching 101.

You have to know why Fizdale was hired. Once you know that you will know you can’t go forward with him. The reason for the hire puts the spot light on management and they are dancing around the spotlight. The Fizdale hiring was equivalent to a get rich quick scheme which backfired big time. Keep Fizdale means nothing because success is not going to follow him. Change isn’t always good but change can be good when done with proper thought process. You say the players are bad I say the players need direction to execute a plan of action and see it done.

Reality is Smith Jr. has had 40 minutes of game play this year with a whole new set of faces(Barrett has 385, Frank 247). Faces that are also struggling to learn each others games. He showed he is capable of adjusting quickly as he had a good year last year with a new cast of team mates. Think he was not 100% early in the year. Looked more explosive yesterday.
With that said, his shot is clearly broken. His shots are not fluent and he is still shooting on the way down. Can he fix that? Maybe. Some have. But think it may also be mental and the only way to get rid of that is to play lots of minutes and hopefully experience some success.

I agree wholeheartedly.
Fizdale was a lure. He had some Miami cred., some Memphis sympathy exhaust, and implied a personal pipeline to a then healthy Durant, KI, or whoever. His claim to coaching was the equivalent of buying a lottery ticket for a big payoff. Diamond Jim in gym shorts.
Time to cut bait. We're painfully witnessing the return on investment and we're better off burning cash in a barrel in front of MSG.
NO to Mark Jackson. Just NO.

When someone asks you to change your shooting form don’t do it. If you want to change your shooting style you can do it. No one knows ones body better than yourself. I would tell Smith to go back to what he does and make it better I don’t care as long as the shot goes in.

Noooo...I've been lurking in Grizzlies boards and most agree that Fiz is a cool guy, but had to go. Brooks also doesn't get the same level of hate with the Wiz. Haven't followed the Hawks, Nets, Magic, or Warriors, but I can guarantee the coaches of those teams don't generate the same level of disgust or scrutiny from their fanbases.

Think there is a difference between completely changing someones mechanics and getting rid of hitches in ones shot. All players have shooting coaches that are constantly working on getting rid of bad habits. From the video I saw in the summer, Smiths shot looked more fluid. The work he was doing seemed to have been helping. However, the last phase/challenge to getting rid of any bad habits are always to be able to do it in games. As bad habits always return when the pressure is on. Hopefully he gets more minutes to get comfortable and can look as smooth as some of those videos showed.

Point was, winning solves everything and losing creates plenty of finger pointing. Easiest target is always the coach.

I know. My point is that this far from the usual fan griping. This Fiz thing has been bubbling since last season. These complaints are things that were simmering last season and followed him from his last job. I think it would be foolish to fire him now, BTW. I think near the half season mark is a good amount of time.

dude he's 19-75( with the worst home record in the league since his arrival), have you ever heard of the saying "I SEEN ENOUGH"
you know what makes it even more embarrassing, the fact that after the F/O did their little press conference and fiz followed, the 3 of them were seen laughing it up and shaking hands...what could possibly be so amusing?

This!!!!! Most teams in the NBA run the same stuff...Mostly 5-out-open-paint offense for drive and kicks and high pick and rolls. most of the intricate sets will be run out of time outs and the beginning of each period. During the Sac-town game, the Kings didn't run anything special! Fox penetrated at will, collapsed the defense and either finished himself, kicked it out for Heild and dropped it off to their center. He had a trash roster last year that was in Tank mode and this years roster is not much better...Give him a roster that actually has a chance before you decide to move on. Funny how some fans call for patients when dealing with Franks development, but dont want to be patient with the coach.

You can give Fizdale this or the next matter of fact give him 10 years. You’re talking about being patient while the Knicks develop young players and develop the coach too. Basically we have the blind leading the blind. A coach is suppose to bring insight to the developing players that is how it works.

I honestly don't get the point or logic of your post.
Is it that most fanbases should just chill because they don't have Harden or Giannis or Lebron?
Fans at least have a right to expect that the coach will get the most out of the roster he's given, whether that's win games or develop players
Coaches do matter. Budenholzer inherited a team and added 16 wins (no real player adds last year) Boston lost Kyrie and Horford but they're kicking ass.
We are worse than last year. Last year had a lot of new faces too. Most were rookies or retreads. This year we supposedly have 70MM+ of professionals plus DSJ
Coaches matter and ours sucks, as does our FO.

Exactly. Yes we were in tank mode last year. I'd argue that still isn't an excuse not to establish the building blocks for but others say otherwise, and they have have valid arguments. This year we have a roster of guys who have established a baseline of success in the league. Those guys, for the most part, have taken steps backwards.
Sure, everyone runs the same sets. But there's also things like establishing pace, putting the right players in to make sure those plays are executed as best as possible, making sure the players have a clear understanding of said plays before they enter the game, having a clear understand of who to put in and which players to put in at the end of games, establishing clear roles for players and making sure they understand those roles etc...Fiz has failed in many of those aspects. I hope, for Natasha's sake, that he figures it out.
