the Dwight Schrute of the Knicks but not being assigned to help the Knicks be good at shooting? Hell, why don’t they hire Sprewell to be the assistant?
Ridiculous and crackheady sounding? Yes. But I am pretty sure the Knicks are doing worse drugs than crack so it’s an improvement!
Not sure that would be a great idea. As good as Houston was, his stroke was all in the wrist. Not something you want to teach players.
good players don't always make good coaches...and just because someone is good at something doesn't necessarily mean they can pass along that ability.
but this begs the question that has always bugged me.
As a franchise, we have a cap on the spend for players. But, why don't we assign individual trainers/coaches to all of our players? Why do we not have more scouts than other teams?
Are any of these things restricted?
For a franchise that blew through the cap for mediocrity, I would expect they could spend a small percentage of that money on staff- personal trainers, cooks for the players to make sure they take care of themselves.
Why doesn't every player have a personal coach? A personal shooting coach.
Heck, why can't we pay Hakeem to be an exclusive Knick big man coach?

Do you know what Knicks stuff specifically is?
Players have a lot of money so why they do not hire their own stuff? Or may be they do? Do you know the facts?
Are the players some kind of orphans without support team, family, mentors? Is it up to players on how they train and eat?

I don't but it is and it isn't.
I don't know their staffing levels. But i have yet to ever read anything that talks about what they are doing in this regard that is exceptional - and I'm sure we would have read it if that were true.
On the players - not all of them are swimming in money. I assume someone like Randle and Morris have the ability to - whether they do is a different story. If I'm the owner, I step in to make sure they're taken care of.
As far as shooting goes, for instance - we know they work on it in practice - but do they have one guy coaching shooting for everybody - or do they have 12 shooting coaches working with each player?
I don't know that it's even the first - but I know it's not the latter!
Einstein taught, but he did make others as smart as him. As said, being great at something cannot be taught.
Hakeem a few years ago was working just with Rockets but not known if he still does.
You are all saying “He’s a great shooter but that doesn’t mean he can’t teach.” OK cool, so we shouldn’t give it a shot? He works for the team. He’s a resource. Hell, he has almost the exact body type and length as RJ. Cool though. Lets not give it a shot because it doesn’t always work that way. Duly noted.

I also know it’s not working.

Maybe knicks have. Not every practice gets reported or video sampled.

You are 100% correct! Whatever they are doing, it is not working!

You’re right. Maybe they have. As far as I know though, I am allowed to assume they haven’t based on the fact that they have a huge coaching staff and shot doctors that don’t work.

There's an Allan Houston DVD on shooting that my boys grew up with (circa 1995-2005). Outstanding quality. The Pistol Pete Maravich videos are great too.
Can't recommend them more highly.
It's come to this. We suck so bad, we're posting about
free throw shooting coaches... for NBA professionals.
Can't someone just start another Frank thread?

I never said free throw shooting. I never even said should be a coach. I just implied be can work with some of the players, especially Barrett since they have similar body types and lengths. I don’t think that’s a ridiculous thing at all.

My bad. I instantly flashed on the fact that we can't hit free throws, and H2O consistently hit 80-90% from the line. Sorry.
Tack shooting developer onto Houston's job requirements.

Huston never was athletic. Just a shooter. Unorthodox. Was running well. OK defense.
Kind of Rip. He also not the brightest dude on the block and pretty soft personality.
No wonder he never get anywhere in coaching and bbal politics.
