Knicks hired David Blatt as a Basketball Operations Consultant, what's that mean for Steve Mills and Scott Perry making basketball decisions in the near future?

Blatt and Mills were college teammates, can’t see Blatt doing anything contrary to Mills.

didnt Blatt have major health issues? Might be some "work" to keep his head in the game etc

He diagnosed with MS and retired from coaching.
They hire him for consulting and scouting which make sense.
Of course he is from Mills circle so it is nothing controversial about it.

just because you have a friendship doesn't mean you can't be an independent thinker. I think you will find all sorts of friendships and prior relationships in the NBA world, it's how it works

Blatt's accomplishments in Europe stand on their own.\
His one NBA experience he was hired to rebuild Cavs and instead they lost in the Finals.
He was fired when the team was 30-11. He was the wrong guy to coach Lebron.

I don't know what his influence will be but perhaps he can sort of mentor WITH Miller and they can achieve might add up. He might have been in someones ear regarding the decision to fire Fiz? Maybe he saw something? Maybe he can help Frank get over the hump?

For what its worth Craig Robinson is a quality guy as is Blatt. For mills to surround himself with good basketball people is not stupid. For Knicks1248 to insinuate they are here because they are black is insulting to their accomplishments. I would not say 1248 is being racist or not. I don't know if he is black or not. Im just saying its an ignorant statement. Its one thing to slam Mills for his record as GM or president.

I think people are overthinking this. He has a new front office role that is likely never going to impact what we see on the court.

not true at all... wasnt he coaching overseas? You dont think a guy with that level of player knowledge isnt useful to have in the fold? There is a rarely tapped pool of talent in EU, especially for role players. I like this.

He's here to be our next coach. he'll lurk around the organization for a year, and then takover the team in the summer as Mills guy.

Mills will also backstab Perry and get Alan Houston in the GM role, which is why Houston's been more visible.

If you think anything different, you haven't been watching how things work.

He's here because of the article that came out how Mills effed up the David Griffin potential hire by signing THjr.

So this is Mills saying to Dolan... we got Blatt and Blatt worked with Griffin.
It's Mills trying to make up to Dolan for a perceived loss (Griffin).

To be fair, we have no idea what the scouts are telling management. They could tell them one thing and the GM could still do something else.

Mills has been rumored to want Blatt in the organization for a long time. However, I wouldn't discount his instincts when it comes to surviving at MSG in regards to this hire. With all of the rumors that Mills maybe gone at the end of the season and the press conference where he and Perry met with the media after the game, I think it is very possible that Blatt is another pro Mills voice in the room if a decision is made where one of Mills or Perry is let go because of what happened this past off season and with the roster they assembled. Robinson, Blatt and Mills are all Princeton guys. The hire could be about basketball or giving a friend a hand. I hope that is what it is. Blatt knows basketball. I just don't trust Mills.
