Look - I'd love for Knox to turn into a far better player, but he could be out of the league in 3 years as well - and that would be worse.

Just like in baseball, you need guys that can give you innings.

its not a dump at all. I remember TT very well. The same questions followed him around everywhere: how does a guy with that size and skill only give you 12 and 5 a night?

Guess what... TT was a 7th pick also. Everyone thought his size and shooting would make him an amazing inside outside scorer. Simply never happened. He was a role player. He was OK. Had a decent career. Those guys are ultimately judged by their teams and if they hit big shots in the playoffs. Nothing wrong with having home grown guys. Not everyone is a star. I hope Knox is a higher impact guy. Thats all.

The problem is we have no star. You can't go 20-62 and end up with a role player. We will be stuck being bad forever if that keeps happening.

Mitch is proof that it's not where you draft it's who you draft.

We have such a revolving door approach, does anyone really think anyone on this roster will make 4 yrs or be here a long term.

The only way were are getting a star is if we trade for one, and knox will more than like be part of that trade..

You've got to draft smart, but at the end of the day, if you ended up with the 1st pick in the 2018 draft you could draft Doncic. If you landed the 6th pick you couldn't. Where you draft IS important because you have access to more players so you have a higher chance of success.

exactly. Higher = better opportunities, and those are often franchise changing. Like Doncic, Young or Jackson instead of Knox.

We got back Billups, released him, then signed Flu Tyson. Was actually a good idea at the time. Few teams had the financial ability to release a 14mm salary and (cap rules were different) turn around and sign Tyson. He cost the team (without tax if any) 28mm for that season!!!
A front line on paper of Amare-Tyson-Melo was pretty good. Add JR Smith..........and the talent is there. Problem was Amare's knee, Tysons immune system and JR's basketball and non basketball IQ. When revolving doored Rashweed, KMart, Dirty Kurt, Kidd, Camby, Quintin and Pablo we were easily the oldest team. It was a fun team. Felton had returned also. Five guys retired off that team. Mills did not disband them, age did!!!
Not written in stone those players we traded for Melo all would have still been knicks. While we all know having a star does not ensure much the hard truth is Dolan would have further panicked if Nets get melo and would have taken the Deron Williams offer in response.
That would have been bad but also consider we might have been faster to rebuild after him?

Draft is like professional gambling.
To win one need to have a volume of tries and system in place to intelligently utilize the luck when it comes your way.
There is nothing certain in pro sport unless you look at what happened in hindsight.
Having a system of principals and sticking with it makes great franchises.
Panicking and luck of patience makes Knicks-like crap-show.

Knox has Frank syndrome. Timid. Not only that but can’t use his length and speed. Summer league Knox was the best Knox. Honestly never thought he would be this bad this year.

Rewatched the first three quarters listening to the Suns broadcast. Eddie Johnson commented on Knox. Said he is going to be a great player but he made the mistake of coming to the nba at 19.

Good point. It's just amazing that some fans don't get it. These kids are being drafted one year removed from High School. There was a time when 4 year college grads had to ride the pine for a couple of years before they were expected to hit a lay up in the NBA. Its a joke. NBA execs are becoming more and more like unrealistic fans. Due to the pressure to win. These kids will get spit out if they don't contribute like top players from the start. Think the trend will only get worse unless these kids start to realize the value of staying in college a couple more years. Teams will have a revolving door of young assets.

Let's be honest. Calipari did a horrible job coaching that season. A lot of talented pieces, but they were young and given too much free reign. It showed in how their season ended. Knox had a lot of bad habits to unlearn. And let's not mention last season. He's progressing decently. I'm not alarmed. He's getting his butt kicked by Morris, Randle and, now, Bullock and he's learning.

i don't get why he has the low motor critique ...I've seen him disappear in games, but is that bc of low motor or low skill or low talent? ... I think they say low motor just because of how his face looks

He looks stoic at times. Blogs add things and we pick it up.
"he needs to.......This" "he needs to.......That". He knows what to do, its just not instinctive yet. Takes mental and physical strength. Kid is young.
He needs more time. Fans need more patience.

Trainer Mark Edwards believes Knicks' Kevin Knox 'has All-Star potential'

"Kevin has All-Star potential. You just need to give him a chance to grow," Edwards, a New York City native, said in a phone interview. "His body is still developing. His mind is still catching up to the speed of the game. Things are going to start becoming more instinctive for him.

Edwards and Knox first worked together in August in Los Angeles, with their work that week focusing on ballhandling.

"He took some great strides," Edwards said. "He's able to pick stuff up and translate it to his skill set really quickly."

Knox suffered a leg injury during a scrimmage with Nets players in LA that limited his training for the rest of the summer. Edwards went to Tampa to work with Knox later in the offseason.

"We just did light work because he was still recovering," Edwards said.

Knox then reinjured the leg prior to the preseason, limiting his court time entering the regular season. Edwards believes Knox has only recently returned to full health and regained his conditioning/burst.

"I think where he is now athletically is where he would have been without the injuries," Edwards says. "You see Kev taking off and getting some dunks and blocking some shots and using his length. Before when he was going down the lane, he wasn't thinking about the dunk. He was going for the layup. He didn't want to overextend himself and get hurt. I think he was jumping off two feet a little bit, possibly trying not to hurt himself. But now I think he's fully, 1,000 percent healthy and he's ready to go."

The positives are he's young and hasn't reached year 3 yet
He has a decent stroke
He's had a decent NBA body and is athletic

The negatives are he hasn't show the steps of progress one would hope for in a top 10 pick
He improved earlier in the season - but still seems like a chucker that only impacts the game if he's shooting well (does nothing else)
He seems unfocused and not defensively aware, his motor is inconsistent - could be poor coaching or could be him
He doesn't seem to have the drive the great ones have, which usually limits your ceiling for potential/growth

If you add it up, he may get there in year 4 or 5 - but does it makes sense to keep waiting with what we've seen so far? I'd absolutely include him in a deal and roll the dice... he hasn't show enough to warrant the belief that his talent will eventually translate. If I saw him playing harder, with more passion or fire - I'd probably be inclined to hold on to him for a while. I'm biased and prefer guys that play hard and seem to care. Maybe he does but I haven't seen much evidence to support that. I guess we will just hope that his tools will translate despite his weaknesses...

He looks like he’s lost all confidence in his shot... I like his progress on defense(at least he’s trying now) and rebounding.... I think he needs time in the g league to get his confidence back up, work on having a killer instinct. I want to see some emotion, ferociousness. He’s a big dude and it looks like he’s playing like he’s 5’.

Double K Needs work. I see potential but he needs the G league.
