It doesn’t matter, we need smart drafting, scouting, player development and culture. The best players get drafted and locked up for 8 years, free agency path is futile

As Knick fans our only joy is the short time between someone being fired and the replacement being hired.
This was obviously in the works for a while now, we had no intention of going after anyone else
I don't know anything about him. Can't be worse than Mills right? As long as he is not Mills or Popcorn man then I am good. I guess.

Man, I guess when you are looking up from Mills and Isiah things look good.
How come I still don't feel excited?

omg like you know. WE are going to have a $150mm payroll full of CAA 30 year old retreads, make the 7th seed and amoebas like you will be dancing in the streets talking about winning culture
what was the other option you wanted?
Give up all our draft picks to the raptors?
I'm very familiar with wes because i did my research on him yrs ago, when all the big name players and rappers like Jay z, Drake, Kanye praise the hell out of him, I wanted to know who he was
Go do your homework on Wes he is not a joke
I mean, I'm not saying he is wrong

because the head of the team isnt a basketball guy. He's a lawyer/agent wheeler and dealer. Maybe thats why.
smackeddog wrote:Couldn’t wait til the offseason for someone with a proven track record, instead goes for a big name with zero experience in the role they’re being hired for because he thinks it will land him a star player in free agency. We learn nothing
He has a proven track record of negotiating great deals.

you cant name me 5 nba player that have been on one team for the last 7 yrs..please name them, because this is not the 90's anymore. Even rookie contract are only 5 yrs max, not 7, 8, 9 yrs like it was back in the day
The lakers and GSW hired former agents.
It's not the best move, but it's not a bad one

Knicks1248, how can you hate Mills so much and be OK with this move? These are the guys responsible for pushing Mills on us in the first place.
(Donnie Walsh) resigned three years later, fed up with the incessant meddling by owner James L. Dolan and his advisers, including CAA (Creative Artists Agency) and the ubiquitous power broker William Wesley.
https://www.thescore.com/nba/news/453871Since then, CAA has only dug its tentacles deeper. The agency represents Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, coach Mike Woodson, assistant general manager Allan Houston and director of player personnel Mark Warkentien. Wesley played a role in Mills’ hiring last fall.

Represents Towns. Obviously Dolan seems to think free agency and signing big FAs is the key rather than developing talent and drafting wisely. same crap over and over again.
Represented old favorites, Eddy Curry, Balkman, mardy Collins, Melo, JR Smith, so has a relationship with Dolan.
Playing devil's advocate here, but the Knicks will never ever separate themselves from the rest of the league in terms of drafting and player development. We are clearly bad at it now, and even hiring the right front office/coaching staff to focus on that doesn't give us an advantage over the rest of the league. What does give us a major advantage over the rest of the league is the NY market. We are not the Memphis grizzlies or Indiana Pacers in terms of a small market team that needs to focus on those things. We need to operate like a big market team that we are. Relationships and change in perception are what fix a lot of things for the Knicks. Rose is probably a good option to help with these things. I know we want to develop properly and operate like some of these successful small market teams, but at the end of the day we are still a big market team that has a major advantage over 95% of the league if we fix some things.
Perry is still the basketball guy. Just a different suit he reports to. Rose can't be worse than Mills.
Honestly the guy has lot good players he has represents in kat, booker, embid and so many others .

These guys were the reason we hired Mills.

I would have preferred someone who knew the sport better.. maybe played in high school or something. I was against using picks to hire ANY one and I posted that.
Fingers crossed he builds a good team. I wont hate until. That being said this looks really stupid on the surface.
Isiah was really connected too
