Encouraging:

GM Chris Wallace: One of the savviest veterans on the market. Was GM in Memphis for 12 seasons before being reassigned to a scout last year. While he did blow it with Hasheem Thabeet at No. 2 in the 2009 NBA Draft, Wallace presided over the Grizzlies posting winning records for seven straight seasons in the rugged West. Memphis plays in small market where it’s difficult to attract free agents. Prior to Memphis, Wallace was Celtics GM and director of player personnel with the Heat in the 1990s.

Bobby Marks: Was a fixture with the Nets as their capologist but also knows personnel evaluation. After parting ways with the Nets, he’s become a star at ESPN, reporting on the salary cap. He also happens to be a CAA client, though some within the agency he prefer he continue his rising broadcasting career. Ironically, Marks likened the Knicks this week to “an expansion team” and a“two-to-three year project” during an ESPN segment.

Discouraging:

“Leon is known as a nice guy around the league but would need a lot of help,’’ one NBA personnel director said. “He isn’t a detail guy.’’

Id be wary of the Knicks giving Strickland a senior role in the front office, considering his post playing career. Concerning that we will probably get some sentimental hires, instead of an honest look for the best candidates.

Perry has made some good deals under less than ideal circumstances. Hasnt gone for the quick fix. Has a good eye for talent. The kind of exec you would want to hire as a GM...

The only thing I hear that Rose is doing, or considering right now, is making hires that up the hype quotient. Going to take more than hype to turn this franchise around. We'll see what happens.
