Knicks · Scott perry wont be back (page 1)

The New York Knicks are expected to introduce Leon Rose as their new president after the All-Star break. Rose is currently tying some loose ends off at CAA before he leaves the agency for the Knicks. According to Steve Popper of Newsday, Rose isn’t expected to keep general manager Scott Perry.

The first and most vital move for Rose is naming a general manager, a role still manned by Scott Perry. But he is not expected to survive the purge of the latest incarnation of the Knicks rebuilding plans. The coach, David Fizdale, was ousted in December, and team president Steve Mills followed last month. A source said Perry is not expected to last beyond his contract that ends after this season.

Perry signed a five-year deal with the Knicks in 2017. He was with the Sacramento Kings before that.

Knicks owner James Dolan began exploring the front-office model of hiring a player agent shortly after firing Steve Mills. The Golden State Warriors under Bob Myers and the Los Angeles Lakers under Rob Pelinka have had success with the former agent model.

The Knicks’ roster is pretty flawed right now, so Rose’s main priority moving forward is to hire the right coach and GM to lead the franchise. He reportedly will have Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau on his coaching search list.

So they let a Lame duck GM decide the fate of the rest of the season by trading morris as if that trade was going to save his job.

Not only did perry sink his own ship, he basically gave miller little to no shot at sneaking into the playoffs, and given him a legit shot at retaining the position,

Moves like this is the reason he is getting fired

My whole view on the Morris thing is found money. We didn't think we'd even sign him last summer. But through a stroke of rare luck we signed an impactful free agent to a one year contract. (By the way the mistake, if any, was that we signed him to a one year deal instead of a longer one.) Aside from that, we got production and leadership from Morris. His Knick season ended 30 games early. Think of it as an injury. We got the most we could out of a one year deal by turning it into future draft capital. Can't ask for a more professional dispassionate GM. GMs aren't prisoners of the moment. They're judged on how they improve a teams' long-term outlook. He will be judged solely on the KP trade, and the draft picks he chose (RJ and Knox) and the ones he acquired. This Morris trade will be a minor footnote on his tenure, and a positive one.

Bermans latest article makes it sound like Rose has been advising or minimally consulted on moves. Getting a first, a second and a euro stash for 2+ months of Morris was a great haul in my opinion. If Morris loves the Knicks and they offer him the most money he will be back. I don’t think the odds of him returning changed much when he was traded.

You think Perry makes this deal so he can save his job?
or his boss told him to do it? From what we read Mills wanted to keep him, Perry disagreed. Somebody thought the better of it and we traded Morris. MIlls job was likely tied to making the playoffs. Somewhere the thought was shortsighted.
Morris was not getting this team to the playoffs. Miller made things better, but really it was not happening.
The clutch points blog tells us nothing we already knew reading Steve Poppers stuff from last week.
The return on Morris was quite good for a player we signed a free agent. One might say Knicks developed Morris and then sold him to highest bidder.

What do we know:

Perry’s contract was tied to Mills.
Leon the professional is coming in. Most of the time new president brings in a new GM, and if Interim exists a new coach.
Team has a losing record.
This is not some high level Nalodian hypothesis. Its logical.
I think we all like MIller and had hopes he’d stick. SOme of us even like Perry. We like them as people.
I’m not sure we can label fault on knicks issue on Perry. He is not a miracle man and likely deserves better.
Perhaps Rose will see fit to keep him on. Or not. But sure as shyt 1248 not.

Dude the Morris deal was the right decision. We could easily sign him back this summer PLUS we got assets. We know you hate draft picks lol but the more you have the more you can use to acquire other players that can help
GustavBahler @ 2/17/2020 7:54 PM
Unless the plan is for Rose to hire a GM, and step back, dont see the need to replace Perry. Rose seems like someone who will be driving deals, Perry knows how to close them.

it's entirely different.

One is the Knicks putting their own foot in mouth, the other is a reporter making much ado about nothing

A trifecta of idiocy: When Drunk uncle puts The Rainmans foot in 1248’s mouth.
