Knicks · Did the Nets just pull off a Knicks? (page 1)

Kyrie Irving out for the season.

This seems like a Knicks deja vu type of thing. Sign 2 stars and they are both hurt. Will they really ever come back the same? If it was the Knicks luck we'd be screwed for years....

GustavBahler @ 2/21/2020 2:17 AM
Definitely dodged a bullet.Didnt get at the time why some fans were so upset to lose out on two stars in their condition. They still dont know if they will be a good fit. Durant left OKC because of a ball dominant PG.

It might not be until the end of their contracts before the team starts firing on all cylinders. If Rose avoids the quick fix, I like our situation better.

I think it will be like when they did the Celtics trade for over the hill KG and Paul Pierce. At the time, due to the fact they get completely deferential coverage, all the pundits were praising the move but to me it was just the kind of boneheaded trade the Knicks had done in the past (no protection on the picks). This time they've again done a typical Knicks move- paid a max contract for a player with chemistry issues and chronic injury concerns and another to a guy coming off the worst bball injury you can have. Plus they gave a courtesy contract to KD's friend, DeAndre Jordan of $10mil per for 4 years.

Next season they're already on the books to have a payroll of $130mil and that's without even re-signing Joe Harris, so there's a very real chance they lose him.

I agree. I really soured on KD when he was out with the injury, and I really started to think about whether he could come back.

He probably will, and to some extent be effective. He is a 7 foot jump shooter with fluid movement, so he can probably/maybe get by without his full athleticism.

But never like Irving.

Maybe one of them alone as a signing would be a risk worth taking for where the Knicks were franchise wise, but not both.

Hope we never go that route. And please no Chris Paul Leon!

If knicks had signed them both we’d be torching the place down.
Nalod won’t kick nets when they are down. Not until we can stand toe to toe with respect. All of it they are really not much worse than last season with its cast of no name talent. They still have them and can do some trades with those assets. Kyrie is a head case but the issue it’s nets is health.
I liked them last year and without Kyrie or D’angelo its kind of cool what they are doing. There issues don’t elevate ours.

He's going to be better than anything we got when he comes back, however, Achilles injuries historically speaking have been bad for pro athletes. I know medicine has improved a lot it his area. but I mean the nets are probably in the a lock for the playoffs this year if they had signed, say, Morris instead of Durant

technomaster @ 2/21/2020 10:27 AM
In spite of losing Russell and getting little to no return from Kyrie/Durant (and heck, Levert!) the Nets are hanging in there with the 7th seed.

Atkinson is a very solid coach and Dinwiddie has evolved into an all-star caliber player.

joec32033 @ 2/22/2020 8:57 AM
Didn't understand any of the Nets/Irving/Durant logic. Irving/Durant said the Nets were building something special based on the year before. Well, the Nets got rid of most of THAT special team to bring in those guys, so it is a much different team with a much different dynamic, different chemistry, etc.

Irving is a nut. A talented nut, but a nut. He also isn't the leader he thinks he is. You need a strong Alpha to temper him. Don't know if Durant is that, plus him being injured screws things up. Who knows if it works, but this is definitely not a good start for them, no matter what people say about that team "not being about this year".

Nets love kicking the Knicks.

The little red headed brother with classic little man issues. It's okay. They're obviously not going anywhere near a chip any time soon.
They're starting to serve as a nice breeding ground for sending good solid players to other franchises.

Not that it would ever happen, but I would love to see Leon somehow work his agent magic and get Dinwiddie here. That would be hilarious as well as entertaining!

Just like when they did with Pierce/KG/Deron/BroPez/Joe Johnson... may the battle resume!

On paper they should be battling for the east next year but remember Kyrie isn't a full-time player. Since logging a career high 72 games in 2016-2017 at the age of 24, he has played in 60 games, 67 games, and now 20 games in the three years since. They guy is always hurt. They'll be good but probably no higher than a 2 or 3 seed. They may not even have home-court advantage in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

This. Also their two best players will be coming back from surgeries. I think Durant will be good but I think it will be his worst year as a pro. Kyrie is a wild card. Injuries and other issues are always a possibility. Levert is really good but also is very injury prone. I don’t think Prince will be good enough as their primary perimeter defender.

Yep. They're best guys are just too unreliable from a health perspective. Plus, I believe there will be some load management. Plus, you can never overlook chemistry.
