Frank Ntilikina’s path forward faces a familiar roadblock.

Coming off his best scoring effort in more than six weeks, the 21-year-old Frenchman could be sidelined Monday night in Houston with a sore groin. Ntilikina, who is listed as questionable after scoring 14 points in Friday’s loss to the Pacers, missed back-to-back games in 2020 on two separate occasions because of the oft-recurring injury and missed 32 of the final 34 games last season due to the same ailment.

“I’m not sure he really did anything today that set it off,” interim coach Mike Miller said following Sunday’s practice. “He was just feeling it a little bit. I think coming back off [the All-Star] break maybe, then the game. We’ll just have to see how he feels.”

Starting point guard Elfrid Payton (sore right ankle) is also listed as questionable after missing the team’s first game back from All-Star Weekend.

Should neither suit up, Dennis Smith Jr. would be in line for his third start of the season.

The groin that never heals

14 points and a sore groin. 1st time since November he played more than 30 minutes.
"What we have here is a 1st round backup..."

Now we can only hope DSJr can shine slightly in what's left of this waste of a season.

Nalod @ 2/24/2020 9:52 AM
from what I read its been "sore" for weeks now. He is 21. it will never heal.
Uptown @ 2/24/2020 9:57 AM
Availability is one of the main abilities athletes must possess...Frank is developing a rep in his short career.

I am just putting this as speculation but i think frank might need surgery on his groin this pain isn't going away with rest.

surgery? Do you know what a strained groin is and what it feels like?

Its a muscle
Its one of the slowest muscles to heal when strained
Strain/Injury results in massive loss of lateral movement

Uptown is a 100% right and being able to play is part of the equation but nobody's career ended over a pulled groin. This is not knee or back issues. This is something that can cause a player to miss a considerable stretch of games. After two years in a row I would consider a large amount of Frank's condition to be devoted to that + core as it seems this is the biggest threat to him missing time

People do get surgery on there groin nfl player jerry hughes had it done last thursday its uncommon though.
Bills DE Jerry Hughes is expected to make a full recovery following groin surgery Thursday morning.
It's Hughes' second surgery of the offseason as he additionally went under the knife to repair a torn wrist ligament he admitted to playing through for the entire year in late January. The 31-year-old EDGE appeared in every game for Sean McDermott's defense in '19 but surprisingly underwhelmed with 23 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and just one fumble recovery — marks that can perhaps be attributed to his multiple injuries. He'll account for $9.5 million against Buffalo's cap in 2020.

He has missed 6 games this season.
News of his groin amputation might be a bit premature.

His groin is as good as gone, they’re going to have to remove the whole thing, you’re in denial

Too bad the Hornets won’t be in the playoffs. I’ll be there in May.

He is French. He has 2 groins.
Another reason is "groin wingspan". His nickname in the locker room is "the Eifel Tower".

Nothing to see here. If you had a sore groin would you like to go out and defend Harden and Westbrook? Nah, let Smith have the pleasure.

Frank will be the starter Wednesday.

Wait, its just speculation?

It is a very tricky injury. The biggest issue is that you can be feeling great, walk great, even run great but the slightest move or turn can cause a shooting pain. For an athlete, that is really scary. And something that takes a while to go away.
