Knicks · Thoughts on Gallinari? (page 1)

Knixkik @ 2/28/2020 11:19 AM
He's a UFA and a CAA client.

He's also older and has a pretty extensive injury history. But here's the thing about him. Everywhere he goes, team's overachieve.

Denver after they traded Melo. Many thought they were rebuilding and they went on to win 57 games I believe with him as a core piece.

LAC overachieved even after Harris was traded to philly and Gallinari was one of their best players. Were supposed to be a rebuilding team.

OKC has been the surprise team this year behind the vet leadership and impact of Chris Paul and Gallinari. They were supposed to be a rebuilding team.

He doesn't fit the timeline at all, but he's a winner and we need winners to really change things around here. We added guys who have been career losers and expected a different result. Look at someone like Gibson, who is a winner. We basically need more talented versions of that. Gallinari fits the bill as a combo forward who is knocking down 3 threes per game. He's 31 but no timeline can convince a guy like that isn't good for this team.

Gallo's had a good career, but he'll want to finish it on a winner- Heat wanted him, seems like OKC might keep him- he's a popular player among GMs

OKC doesn't have lot money to keep gallo and i wouldn't mind signing gallo it would give knicks shooting that they need badly. The heat think they can get giannis in summer of 2021 so there not going to give all there money to gallo. Also miami has to sign bam this summer to his rookie extension a year earlier instead of 2021.

I would totally be open to bringing him back. I think Gallo's career arc is going to resemble JJ Reddick's when all is said and done in that everyone didn't think he did enough when he was younger and a prospect, but then once he became a veteran and became efficient as fk everyone around him just looks better. I imagine having someone like Gallo would open things up for Randle and his 3P% probably would go up, not to mention our guards who can't shoot will get more space in the lane

Problems:

a) we have Randle stuck here for another season
b) the instant Gallo signs a deal with us, he goes back to being injury prone.

Serious question- why do injury prone players tend to have injury-free contract years? Is it luck? Do the do something different that avoids injury? Do they just stretch more? I've always found it weird!

newyorknewyork @ 2/28/2020 11:40 AM
Gallo going to the Heat would be a problem. Morris worked for us. Gallo would as well. But our success will still depend on the level of guard we are able to acquire in the offseason.

Side note: OKC probably should have kept Grant as well. If we were able to come away this offseason with Grant and Gallo, while moving Randle and adding a quality PG. I’d sign up for that.

franco12 @ 2/28/2020 1:34 PM
it makes me think about what could have been if we kept some of our own players that have done well elsewhere, or been traded before we could take them:

LaMarcus Aldridge
Trevor Ariza
Gallinari
Wilson Chandler

Here's the thing with our own roster.

I can't say if we should stick with Knox. Frank. DSjr.

They've been such crap in different ways.

We desperately need to improve the eye on talent for this franchise. Our drafts have kinda sucked of late.

Randle isn't unmovable by any means. We can send him to a team like Charlotte who can absorb his contract into cap space or trade him for another large contract on an expiring deal like Batum. All depends on if we view him as addition by subtraction with the addition of a guy like Gallinari. But they could work together too. Adding Gallinari and then drafting Cole Anthony or Haliburton at PG drastically improves the shooting in the lineup with Barrett, Robinson, and Randle if that's the route we go. Or moving Randle and using Gallinari as more of a 4 and adding another shooter is another option.

Think he is from Italy!
HofstraBBall @ 2/28/2020 4:34 PM
Would rather have Morris but always like Gallo. Depends on price.
Nalod @ 2/28/2020 5:07 PM
No thoughts. A post about nothing. I liked his game. Still do. He is welcome here.
Price? Its relative. CAA client. Do all the CAA clients now in play to come here? Berman is a whore.

Actually...the correct term for him is"Fat Whore".

The nba is a giant fraternity and the relationships play a huge part, so I think there’s a reasonable assumption that CAA clients will be connected to the knicks from here on out.

GustavBahler @ 2/28/2020 9:56 PM
Short deal only. Worry that we would have a repeat of what happened with Camby, and his return to NY.

I won't say he's that fat. I'd say he's a little heavy. You judgemental bastards...naw just joking. Now he's Leon's Fat Whore and hopefully he Leon Mollywops with his media influence when he gets out of pocket.
