SAN ANTONIO — If swingman DeMar DeRozan and the San Antonio Spurs can’t agree to an extension by the late June deadline, the four-time All-Star intends to decline his $27.7 million player option for next season to become an unrestricted free agent, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
DeRozan, who has averaged 20 points in his 11-year career, would be among the top players on the market this summer.
DeRozan declining his option wouldn’t close the door on him re-signing with the Spurs, sources said, but it would definitely open an avenue for a team like the New York Knicks, who are expected to be interested.
The Spurs acquired DeRozan, 30, from Toronto in the July 2018 deal that sent Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors.
DeRozan is shooting a career-best 52.8 percent from the field and averaging 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
He was drafted ninth overall by Toronto in the 2009 NBA draft.

chris haynes says knicks have interest in spurs guard /forward demar derozan per yahoo sports.
Chris actually didn’t say this. He said IF Derozen doesn’t resign it would open up interest to a team like the Knicks.
Authors of articles don’t often write headlines and this one is piss poor clickbait
This article is worthless
Agent games. Needs to create a market, tho DeMar would fit on our roster of non three point shooters. #FreeIsoZo.
Gross keep far away. He’s actually stupid if he thinks he’s getting paid this FA
He is a really bad ft for this team
This would be the safe play. A stable solid good player still in his prime years. Still need to find 3 point shooting as he’s not great at it.

Would make 0 sense for either side. Other than us offering him more money than anyone else there is no reason for him to sign here. And based on our current roster construction and timeline there is no reason for us to want to sign him.
Derozan at this stage would be best to sign with a team like the Grizzlies, that have cappable shooters from 1-5. And could use another wing/ball handler to pair with Morant.

What Im looking at is the heat. The heat rebuilt the team with young gus and really just a couple of expensive vets(cuz theyd be expensive)! While the focus is on the young the stability of the franchise comes from older vets. Is that derozan? not sure but there are worse options
I don’t see the point in having DeRozan unless he comes off the bench for RJ. I don’t see how he would agree to that.
DD is good but he's a terrible spacing fit next to RJ. Need more a pure shooter and both are really SGs and you dont want to play either at SF.
