Sad to say, but this might be a typical Saturday afternoon in Lebanon.

That explosion? Wow.

THAT explosion? Wow. That’s incredible (obviously in a horrific way) if that’s true. That was pretty massive. If I was stupid, I would even say that semi partially looked like a very tiny nuclear blast.

Yeah...I'm sorry to hear about the lives lost, but in a way, I'm relieved to hear it was accidental. It's scary when you think about all the combustible crap around us that could go.

Worryingly they were already facing food shortages and undergoing a complete economic meltdown- the explosion destroyed 85% of their stored grain and destroyed the port. Could have horrific consequences- hope we can get some international aid in there.

Good stuff, I doubt there will be one large breakthrough, but instead it will be lots of incremental steps like these. Deaths rates shouldn’t be as bad as they were in NY thanks to some key learnings on how best to treat patients (i.e. screening them for blood clots, use of that cheap steroid to reduce inflammation, etc etc). Just need to keep chipping away. September/October is key with regards to finding out about the oxford vaccine. Also Russia claims to be vaccinating population from September- we’ll find out more then how true it is and how they got there so quickly (whether they stole the research, had a key breakthrough themselves, Tested properly etc). Even if they did steal the research, they’re essentially using their population to test it out for the rest of us.

Sad state of America

Why do we let these psychopaths get away with this?

OasisBU @ 8/6/2020 7:36 AM
I am optimistic we will have several vaccines by next year. The Johnson and Johnson, Oxford, and Moderna trials are all promising. The J&J approach has been used previously to create an FDA approved Ebola vaccine so the technology works. Regardless, I don’t think life will be the same after this - we will revert to normal in many ways but there will be lasting changes.

We just need to make it through the fall / winter. I know it’s been tough, I feel it too even though my own family has been very fortunate (something I am truly thankful for).

It has been really disappointing to see how the virus has been politicized and that the U.S. can’t get it’s act together. I remember after 9/11 this country banded together, American flags were everywhere and there was a sense of pride. Now it feels like the country has really lost its sense of pride and commitment to one another. I hope we can turn things around.

For me the most disappointing thing is the complete lack of solidarity, both nationally and internationally. You'd think a health crisis like this would unite us and have us all working together, instead it feels like it's been every person for themselves (country wise). I honestly thought this would change the way people thought and acted, maybe we'd all reflect and change, but there's been none of that- just the same old crap!

I keeping my fingers crossed for September/October, as that should hopefully let us know if there's light at the end of the tunnel. Even if the vaccine takes 6-9 months to mass distribute, I think it's easier to hold out if you have an end date and know things are going to get better.

That’s way more than what I remember it would be. These people are crooks. My faith in pharmaceutical companies is basically nothing.

I get it, R&D....a lot of it which was funded by our tax dollars. This country has gone to hell. I might pull a literal DJ and move to Canada, not that it's all that great over there. In four years things went from bearable to vomit inducing. I'd say that's on par with the Isaih Thomas era for the Knicks.

Yup, it's why I hope it's not a US firm that discovers the first vaccine- at least if it's a European one there's less chance of price gauging like this. If any of the corporate crooks involved in this charging ever need help (medical, house on fire, anything) they should be charged 2,000 times the cost of it, see how they like people profiteering from tragedy and need.

This isn't ignorance. This is the burying of the truth. Sad, but this virus has exposed corruption in all of our institutions.

It’s looking more and more like Moderna. They’ll be charging $50-$60 for the vaccine. I actually owned moderna stock for awhile but all of their shady news was really turning me off so I sold at a decent time.

I would still possibly get the vaccine myself but if they are talking about manipulating your Messenger RNA, does that f’ with your DNA?

Something has to give with this pandemic because it is a lot.
