Rudy Giuliani tested positive. I hope it knocks him on his ass.

What an absolute shit show. Him and the GOP.

It is amazing how all these other places are handling this pandemic way better the us. I see this tweet and compare it to one I saw a few days ago where the US government is trying to give stock market workers the essential worker tag so they can be in the front of the line getting the vaccine.

we have lots more people with underlying medical conditions - obesity is the #1 reason we have more deaths

Yeah. That’s also a problem... which makes it even crazier that people don’t take it serious.

I don’t think I’ve heard a single message this year promoting physical fitness. Probably because it didn’t fit with the message that covid would just go away.

It's part of Natural Selection.
People who care about others and value life survive... the rest as usual are relying on luck.
Look at the excess mortality report.
It tells the whole story about inequality and how cultural traits of different population groups in US play out.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/m...
Very telling...

Arkrud calling something "natural selection" and then connecting it to the excess mortality report which clearly shows that non-white ppl in the US have been hit by Covid WAY harder than white ppl is a little - lets say "unfortunate".
The connection between obesity and race which you implicate as a reason for "natural selection" is very directly connected to a third variable which is poverty/income.

This was exactly my point. "Natural" when applicable to humanity means correlated to the objective laws of how human society operates.
The responsibility for how humanitarian our society is stands with every one of us.
We tend to look for conspiracy and evil individuals while the reality is we are all personally responsible.
The only way to change the world for better is to control our own anger, fear, jealousy, greed, and hatred, and turn them all in love and compassion.
This is the only thing we can control at least to some extend. Or can learn to control.

It doesn’t fit well with anything. People don’t want to hear they have to change their lifestyles. Hell, it’s impossible to get everyone to wear a mask. That’s our fault! We can blame politicians until the cows come home. We still have to look in the mirror. And if we all get vaccinated (which we all won’t) then we are still an obese society with diabetes, heart disease and cancers related to our lifestyles staring us in the face. Something will have to change.

"The Michigan Department of Corrections says its staff has identified 115 prisoners — 114 men and one woman — who were diagnosed with COVID-19 once and tested positive again after 90 days or longer."

This is pretty important information. Prisoners' can't do the things necessary to keep themselves safe due to their circumstances so I would assume the average time between reinfections should be accurate. The next question is what does this mean for the vaccine?

This is not entirely related to the MRNA vaccines. Instead of injecting a dead or an entirely weakened virus, they insert a protein called a spike that is found on the virus, which is what’s needed to enter the cells. So instead of attacking the virus itself, the immune system simply destroy the spikes found on the virus cells. It’s, so far, very effective, according to data. Hopefully that continues despite the occasional allergic reactions being reported.

If this is indeed related to COVId this could have huge implications.
