This show is good. Good and weird. Ella Purnell is captivating.

Wow the original Mad Max movies were terrible. I should have let my vague memory of them suffice. Road Warrior had moments, but the rest was just laughably bad.
Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix is excellent, 3 episode in.
No Knicks until October sucks hard.

Starting in mid May I began lifting weights and doing light walking and elliptical in my back yard. Some back ground I ama T2 diabetic age 53 that after being on Ozempic and Mounjaro close to 5 years could no longer find those drugs due to shortages from all the people using it for weight loss. For years I used to do light aerobics and swimming for exercise after having stoped doing resistance training which was my staple along with bike riding. Well I live in NYC and despite the bike lanes cycling has become more dangerous with the proliferation of ride sharing scooters and mopeds so I doubt I will ever ride on local streets anymore. So after 6 weeks I can say my blood glucose is just as well controlled as when using Ozempic or Mounjaro. I also feel much more energetic, and have shown lots of gains in strength and body appearance. People are complimenting me every day. My shoulders and back have filled out. My arms are larger and waist is smaller. Only issue is I had a flare up of sciatica which was caused by doing deadlifts and leg raises. So I have stopped doing squats and other movements that hurt the spine. Hopefully I will be able to add squats in a few weeks. Guys if any of you are middle aged and diabetic or just feeling sluggish and feeling tired I have changed my life over the last 6 weeks using dumbbells sets of 15,25,35,45 lbs and a step from my wife's aerobic videos since I don't have a work out bench. Using dumbbells, push ups walking and an elliptical has also raised my vigor. Oh and I don't lift hard and I skip days when I am tired and lift less when I'm tired so I'm not doing the " No Pain No Game approach either " Guys get up and active if your not currently. Doing anything beats nothing. And if you do something it will lead to doing something else and more in no time

The original Mad Max movie in its time had some "Moments". It was a low budget small Australian movie and made a star of Mel Gibson in the late 70's. I have not seen it in many many years but I would imagine it did not hold up well. At the time there was some uncomfortable moments that centered around the original plot. Director George Miller was super young and his style was unique at the time. The bigger budget second movie "the road warrior" was really very good for its time. That movie held up better. Movie goers saw things they had never seen before with techniques again developed for those actions scenes. Use of Women as warriors was a bit novel. Hot women at that! The third movie "beyond thunder dome" with the late great Tina Turner was cool only for her inclusion. A Black women in a villain turned heroine role was not common even for the mid 1980's!
The three movies done inside of 10 years each had substantially larger budges and commercially did very well. Each was very influential at the time. These movies are old now.
My impressions back in the day was I found Mad Max 1 to have some very memorable scenes as a "revenge movie". Locations and cars was not like anything seen. The second movie was far grander in scale and delivered way beyond its budget. The "Thunderdome" movie was a hit and also influential but I did not like it as it now commercialized and very "Hollywood". The sound track was good but also very mainstream. Mel Gibson was a star by that point. IN retrospect I admire what Tina Turner bought to the film as a black women in the industry and her performance was good but at the time the first movies were so "edgy" with Millers style that I feel the third movie was too mainstream and a commoditized.
Fury Road with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron I thought was nice update with new technology and a creepy Humungus.
I think to have seen the first two movies in the time they were made would give better understanding what they accomplished with a very unique filming process that has been duplicated over time.
The early scene with Mad Max's dog guarding the helicopter pilot and the way it was filmed was awesome the first time I saw it. I loved this:

Ditto. Great job Alpha.
This is one of the reasons I don't use a landscaper. And walk the dogs frequently (good for them, good for me).
Now that I'm parked less in front of basketball, I should try to add some lifting and cardio.

Dog gets shot offscreen. As far as I'm concerned, he's still roaming the outback looking for adventure.
Did you know this villain appeared in Mad Max 1 as well???

I was a fan of the original Mad Max movie back in the 80s. Haven't watched it since, and probably won't, so as not to spoil it. But Beyond The Thunderdome was just terrible, and Fury Road was the worst of all. Pile of expensive looking crap.
Nalod@ 6/4/2024 9:07 AM
Did not know "humungis" (cousin of Porzingis?" was in the 1st movie. The second I thought the mask was cool and the character was good. Fury road they over did it. The recent movie did lousy at the box office and has not gotten good reviews. I'll catch it when it either a cheap rental or just streams on a service I pay for.
Other than "No time to die", the last James Bond movie I have not been to a theatre since 2018.

I’m watching the first couple of episodes of Scavengers Reign on Netflix.
Or tripping on shrooms.
Not sure which.

Scavenger's Reign is a must watch. The body horror is trippy as hell. Like getting high without actually taking anything. I hope it gets another season. I watch the first two episodes of Acolyte. Not bad, but not the gritty show I hoped for. More like a YA novel.

Saw Furiosa and it was good. The story is a paint by numbers revenge story and it doesn't help that we already know the fates of several characters. But the action sequences are what takes this to another level. The pacing is also break necking fast for most of the film. It's not fury road, although I preferred most of the action scenes in Furiosa better. I recommend.
