Had no idea of how popular Black Panther was in Africa. It was a major cultural event. Fans were going to the film in traditional African clothing, as seen in the film.

Sorry to hear he passed so young.

and he was only 43, so young

Really good actor with great range. It would have been really hard for him to continue, especially with the pandemic. A big loss.

I get the feeling Boseman knew that his time might be short, and was very selective about the scripts, the projects he became a part of, the directors, actors, he worked with.

This must feel like a real body blow to the Black community, times being what they are. Chadwick Boseman gave many hope for a better future.

Got my first 4K player last month. Got a multi-region player so I can watch stuff not available in the US. Ive stocked up on movies and TV shows to watch in the Fall/Winter. Get the feeling Im going to need some escapism.

Some of what I got...

Inspector Morse, complete series
Land of the Giants (CS)
The Time Tunnel (CS)
Cobra Kai season 1
Seaquest season 1
Foyle's War complete series.

Land of the Giants and Time Tunnel I havent seen since it first aired. Seaquest as well. Only seen a couple of Inspector Morses, really liked them.

Finally got "Local Hero" on bluray. Remember seeing it at the Beekman Theater in NYC. Its a great film to watch when you're feeling down. Sweet film.

Just got a sweet deal on a new but 2018 Samsung Q9 75 inch and flush mounted it. Streaming high def/4K (limited selections) but with Hulu, HBO and Prime the Content choices are endless. It replaced a 12 year old 58in plasma Was still quite good but this is a whole new experience.
Mrs Nalod “why replace a TV that’s not broken?”.
Nalod: crickets.
Winter is coming.

How dare you upstage my 65 inch Q7! Was going to get a 75 inch, but Id have to get a new
new big ass coffee table to hold it. Phobic about a wall mount.

Also looking forward to watching movies in 4K like Apocalypse Now, 2001. Saving them too. Overall Im
really impressed how well this TV upscales blurays to 4k. Have a very large collection, nice to know I wont want to upgrade my collection, nowhere near the pace of my DVDs. Not that many

Just came back from my first movie, The New Mutants. It sucked, but I knew it would going in. But it felt kinda normal. I was up in the back and there were four other people in the lower rows. I can't wait to risk my life to see Tenet hahaha. Seriously, it felt safer than a trip to Costco.

Excited for Wonder Woman and Black Widow.

RIP Chadwick Boseman. Fantastic actor.

One unfortunate side note is that some younger reporters on cable news have been saying that "Black Panther" was the first blockbuster Black superhero. For the sake of accuracy, that was Wesley Snipes in "Blade".

Snipes was a real class act when he heard he was being replaced by Mahershala Ali.

It was good just to see trailers. Gerard Butler is starring in another disaster porn flick, but I'll see it. The trailer for the Poirot move also hit. I'm not sure what they're going for in Black Widow, but the action looked good. Taskmaster looked like a beast. Tenet looked really impressive.

Blade was very influential to comic book genre and action movies in general. People think of the Matrix when you think of "bullet time" effects, but Blade did it earlier. The fight choreography still stands up today.

Have to mount to get over my center channel speaker.
THe Panasonic weighed 130lbs and the mount was rated up to 175lbs. Its plate steel. New mount is Samsungs “no gap” and is specific to this TV. Its 90lbs.
I also bought a Samsung “Serif” TV for the Bedroom. Mounted it on a Floating shelf with no visible wires.

I remember going to see Blade 2 at the time and how huge it was (and how disappointing Blade 3 was), but haven't seen it since- does it hold up (apart from choreography)? Don't want to tarnish my memories!

Blade 2 definitely holds up, it wss directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Great cast. The original holds up as well. Blade 3 looked like a vehicle for Ryan Reynolds. Blade was almost an afterthought, unfortunately.

Congratulations- I love dogs! I'm jealous (I've been travelling a lot the last few years so didn't think it was fair to get another one as I hate leaving them in kennels)- one of my favourite ever jobs was working in a dog rescue centre. What type of dog is it?

It’s supposed to take place right after Civil War and before Infinity War. I have high expectations for it.

Those of you with kids who are looking for things to watch might consider "Batman Beyond". The bluray is pricey, but the DVD set isnt. Wondering if they will ever make a feature film.

"Aaahh!!! Real Monsters" is a weird, funny, cartoon. Something for the weird times we're having.

Thank you! So, I am not 100 percent sure... the vet thinks the dog is a Cairn Terrier. I am unsure because the body and tail looks like Shih Tzu, the face like a Mini Poodle... pretty sure my sister in law will get me a DNA test for Christmas, so should know more then

Saw the Dune trailer...I might've jizzed my pants. Oh, Tenet is good too.
BigDaddyG @ 9/8/2020 12:32 AM
Saw Tenet a second time. Movie is definitely better on rewatch. You need one viewing to understand the plot and appreciate the special effects. The second viewing allows you time to examine how the characters fit in and each actor's choices. Also, I don't care what anyone says about Kenneth Branaugh's acting. I thought he was awesome. He went all in like he was a throw back from some lost 60s James Bond flick.

It gets way better after the first 2 seasons (I hate season 1 and season 2 is very corny!)

If you like it all, do give Deep Space Nine a try, it's my favorite, has aged the best, and has an ongoing story arc (takes a few seasons to get going), is a bit darker and better character development.

I'm on the middle of the 2nd season. Riker is weirding me out. The way he walks and stands. What the heck is that lean?
When you see the ep 'the icarus factor', you'll understand why Riker is so f'd up, lol
Just finished watching Icarus factor. Yup.
I am on Season 5 Episode 12. A lot of Data episodes which I like a lot. My favorite character is Data, Picard then Worf. I know everybody likes Troi but I think Dr. Crusher is one hot mama.

They hired some very good writers for this show. The amount of made up science jargon used is amazing.

I like Troi because I am also a counselor, so like that people with my profession get to sit up front next to the captain on the bridge of the ship in the future- not so sure about the kind of outfit I'd have to wear though!

The show definitely moved to focusing on Data and Picard after a few seasons (I liked Worf too). Really didn't like how they portrayed data in the movies, but he was great in the TV show.

Remember you have the new Picard show when you've finished TNG- it's great so far (I've only just started watching it).

I feel kind of sad watching TNG now- at the time it felt like the future we might be heading towards (in terms of attitudes), but nowadays it feels like we're heading in completely the opposite direction. In fact I doubt TNG would even have any success nowadays- it's amazing how well it did considering it's focus on sciences, a lot of eps were essentially morality plays, there wasn't much violence, and the focus was on dialogue, understanding and diplomatic solutions rather than killing.

The last ep of TNG was one of my favourite series ending too

A lot of really good episodes. I just finished watching "The Inner Light". Wow. This has to be the best TV episode I have ever seen. That damn flute got me at the end.
Terrible aging makeup, but really great episode- one of my favorites. If you found that moving, wait until you see "the Visitor" ep in Deep Space 9

I finished TNG. Loved it. I also finished watching the 4 movies. Data with that epic line against the borg was awesome.

Started DS9. Thank you for recommending this. Great episodes. I am on the 2nd season now. Great episodes.

Jadzia Dax is beautiful. 😋
