Knicks · Charles Oakley (page 1)
I grew up a huge OAK fan and always loved spikes movies but a A$$ is a A$$ man and these two are A$$holes and give the NBA a bad name . Both should write written apologies for there actions not just to Dolan and MSG but to the NBA in General.
Spree was my favorite Knick, but what Dolan pulled after having Oakley thrown out of the Garden parading every former Knick out the following game was downright embarrassing. Spree after years of being banished suddenly is sitting next to Dolan. Completely used as a pawn.
Oakley may have lost his mind, I don’t love him saying stuff about Ewing, but to be thrown out of a building you bleed on the floor for 10 years from and have the owner and tee issue statements about his well being was classless.
Let’s stop for a moment and remember, Dolan fires employees, high level executives and treats some Knicks legends one way and then goes out of his way to protect and praise someone like Isiah Thomas that embarrassed the franchise.
I’m with Oak, here. Dolan and the Knicks PR team always does the wrong thing. The Spike situation was pathetic. Honestly what hasn’t been the past 20 years. Karma is winning.
Dolan is a whinny rich kid. It’s a fans right to yell sell the team. Having folks thrown out of the building is so childish.
The man literally struggled with alcohol addiction for years and publicly shams fans for alcohol issues.
Each day brings a new embarrassment with the team. Oak should have been honored prior to being thrown out of the building. He’s just salty, I’m sure we would all be as well.

Oakley byching his teammates out is worse than what Dolan did. Sitting next to Dolan was their own personal call. They weren’t calling Oakley out— but he certainly did to them. That’s disloyalty amongst peers- the worst kind
Interesting. Last week, Childs said Sprewell was a pawn in the Oakley feud.

Eh, Child's was kinda dead to me when he became a Net. Seriously, we need sports back. Now they're rehashing things from a month ago

You have some good points, but I was always taught "it's not what you say it's how you say it" the matters the most, not to mentioned the timing of the comments

Funny, we don't read anything about Spree or BK or any other ex-players having drunken brawls with security, do we?. Or getting arrested for trying to cheat at Las Vegas? Or trying to keep themselves in the press by saying idiotic things about other ex-players. HOF players, by the way.
And did you forget Oak throwing up disgusting air balls during his bloodletting years on the floor at MSG? Do those count?
Good you're with Oak. Not saying Dolan is my owner of choice, but I would say the majority of billionaires have their problems. They also have rights too.
Spike situation sure was pathetic. Sounds like a whiny little rich kid acting out about not having special rules just for him.
Dolan certainly is an azzhole, no argument there. But Oak's turning into a babbling moron.
The owner has been abusive to fans, employees, and players. He’s the least respected owner in all of basketball and up there for the least respected in all of sports.
Whether Spike Lee overacted or not, the Knicks as there always do got it wrong. You don’t publicly feud with your biggest fan and the someone that’s a brand ambassador for your shitty second rate franchise. Like you don’t release a statement you didn’t offer KD the max, allow your new brand ambassador to go on tv and say you’re firing the coach, that you didn’t try to sign RJ in the offseason. It’s pathetic.
What is Spike Lee doing at the NBA draft sitting with owners and players representing your franchise if he’s not considered a part of the Knicks family? Why didn’t you give Ewing an assistant coaching job?
If your Oakley and you see the love Dolan gives Vin Baker or after Isiah Thomas, it’s puzzling. Isiah ran the Knicks into the ground and cost the team serious capital in public opinion and over $20MM in settlements and he got another position in the organization.
There is a reason why teams like the Lakers, Spurs, etc keep deep ties with former players. It’s why certain college teams remain elite.
Oakley should have kept his mouth shut regarding Ewing, but a certain point you don’t need a PR team to understand, be the bigger person, sit down with the guy, give him a night at the garden repair the damage you did around the league and put your organization back on the map.

It's also important to see things that don't fit your pattern.
Alan Houston. Herb Williams. John Starks. Anthony Mason.
Spike Lee incident was stupid on both sides. Ewing wanted a head coaching position, not an assistant's slot. He had come out bashing Mark Jackson and sounding like he should have the Knicks head job because he was Ewing, not because he had displayed any incredible coaching chops at Orlando or anywhere else. And head coaching at Westchester was beneath him.
Again, if you're Oakley, acting like a drunken moron and getting arrested on felony charges, the love Dolan gives to others that are less deserving matters little. It certainly doesn't mean you come out crapping on people like Spree and Ewing.
Ummmm, tell me again what this second rate, unmapped franchise was valued at again?
It’s the value of NYC. We have the worst record over the last 20 years and not a marque talent to speak of, it has nothing to do with the organization.
Ewing would have taken an assistant job like he did in Charlotte and Orlando.
Dolan tossed Oakley because he was critical vocally in the media, not because he was drunk. The same way he tosses fans that are critical.

The value of the franchise only has importance to one person and shareholders— no one else. Dolan gets no free pass here. All of this could’ve been avoided if he kept his little trap shut. Patterns are correct— no wonder why the guy has had trouble with alcohol and divorce. Look how he handles the Knicks? Absolute worst owner in sports history who drops to the level of kicking kids out of msg. So while Oakley wins the original argument he losses favor by stabbing his mates in the back. Grumpy grandpa is right. But Dolan is the grand poo ba. Maybe we can pitch in and send a Napoleon hat to Jim to wear at his seat? He’ll be sitting by himself the next two years anyway

Allanfan I think we can enjoy sports on tv than with fans perhaps at 1/8-1/15 filled stadiums/arenas.
Right now I think reality is this is gonna take some time unfortunately 😞
As far as Spike, in my view, that was all on Dolan. First, there is no way anyone told Spike Lee he had to leave MSG unless Dolan told them to say that. As I understand it, Dolan was mad that Spike was not singing praises to Dolan for the crap on the court and this was Dolan’s way for payback. Second, if the whole thing was that Spike was not supposed to enter that way, then why was he let in at all. The person that processed his ticket should have rejected it and not let him in at all, but once he was in, you don’t tell him to go back outside. That is just nonsense. The whole thing smells like a setup by Dolan, and I would have been pissed too if I were Spike.

Oh I don’t mind. In terms of just that.... I haven’t been to a NY sports team game in years besides one Rangers preseason game a couple of years ago. Tickets are way too expensive and the Knicks are currently not worth throwing that money away. Besides, I pay attention to the place on TV. They play music and noise on the loudspeaker for almost the entire duration of the game. I think they started doing that to drown out the fire Dolan chants. It’s actually kind of intolerable. The music and noise is good sometimes but every second sucks. That alone will keep me from going.
So on a selfish POV I am good.
TheGame wrote:As far as Oakley, I agree that he is being a bit of a crybaby. He just needs to drop it. I understand how he feels and Dolan needs to stop trying to punish former players for merely expressing the obvious (I.e. that the Knicks suck). But at some point you just got to let it go and Oakley should stop, especially this new tactic if throwing Ewing and Spree under the bus.
And don't forget BK.
Next month, it will be Clyde.
It's amazing the amount of douche-bag activity one can overlook to continually shit on the hated owner. I get it, Jimmie should sit and listen to the shit and just smile quietly in his own building because he's the asshole who is singularly responsible for making this franchise into the pile of shit we all know and love.
Jerking Spike off, yeah that does smell like an "I'm the owner, you just own seats" payback.
But siding with someone acting out and spouting off like an oversized drama queen is just slightly disingenuous. I just wonder what the reactions would be if Dolan had just been sitting quietly in a luxury suite for any game he attended, and Oakley was just clowning off and getting carted out by security.
