Randle would resign for less than the max that Collins is looking for. On top of cutting 26mil over 2 yrs from Dedmond as they already have Capela to soak of those mins.

I dont really follow ALT but I think they like the 3 big guys and like Dedmonds.

Wouldnt be surprised if this pandemic makes Dolan want to see some big names on the team, even starphucks, to get fans back in the seats. Considering the loss of revenue, paying employees to isolate, and the reticence of some fans to pack a stadium, cant say I would blame him. Hoping Rose can convince Dolan that he can get fans back in the seats (whenever that is) without resorting to a quick fix.

Arena's won't be allowed the filled so ticket sales are irrelevant this year- nba is looking at no crowds to start with and then maybe 20% capacity. Taking on any big name or contract this season would be madness- there's no reason to do it. Next season will suck (lucky if it doesn't get disrupted), take it as a development year, and focus on the season after it

Ticket sales are relevant, if players are signed to max deals, max years. At some point ticket sales will be a factor. Hoping it doesnt lead to some hasty decisions.

We can all talk out our asses or read the CBA. Owners will absorb what they will and salaries are going to be held back. The already are. Players paid at the beginning of the year will have deductions on next years contract.
Will some owners need to sell or look for partners? Perhaps. Leagues as a whole have collective line of credit they can tap into to get by.
Question some of you are asking is can a “Rich team in a big market take advantage of small teams misfortune?” The salary cap parameters really do keep things in balance.
Does paying Kyrie and Kevin basically for a year to sit then head into this pandemic effect a guy like Joe Ma? I don’t know. But he can’t be happy.
Dolans core entertainment businesses are venues that sell seats. Its gonna hurt too! Knicks value is on paper but it still needs cash. MSG is a corp. just like any other who uses leverage to operate.
Rockets owner Fertitta owns casinos and restaurants. Simon and Reinsdorf’s are real estate guys. Kronke Owns sports teams here and abroad. Anshultz, one of the lakers partners runs arenas....
These guys are rich, but its not cheap to run a team .

Hmm, I’ve just had a thought, how will the shrinking cap impact players who’s rookie contracts are ending- will some consider just signing a one year deal (Or 2 year deals) either this offseason or next in the hope the cap and max contracts rapidly grow the season after the COVID virus is done?

what is the number - 40% of revenue comes from ticket sales? That is what I saw.

So - what is new cap at 60% of the old number!

Of course, at some point, there is a vaccine and then things return to normal - but that normal will be a new normal, and this year and possibly next year are blips that will be felt for a while.

There is still China which might not relent on pressing the brakes on the NBA

Look at the trend in the cap - from Wikipedia:

I could easily see a cap # of $80-90M over the next 2-5 years as a new normal.

And Chris Paul at $40m is half of that!

thinking about the cap - if I am an NBA Player with an option to become a FA this year, I might take it and try to get max dollars now - because in a year or two, that won't be an option.

My concern as well, that we will see an aging star maxed out. With too much weight put on their box office potential.

This would be a good time for the NBA to start advertising their VR subscriptions. Looking for new ways to use it to give fans at home, the NBA experience. Could help supplement the loss of revenue from ticket sales.
