Knicks · Would DAL Still Want Ntilikina? Is Jalen Brunson and Justin Jackson Reasonable Compensation? (page 1)

NardDogNation @ 6/9/2020 12:31 PM
The Mavericks were rumored to prefer Frank Ntilikina over Dennis Smith Jr during that 2017 draft and even went so far as to hire an old coach of his to help aid his transition. It's only been two seasons since that draft, so I can't imagine much has changed as far as their interest is concerned. Afterall, they are better adept at developing talent (especially European talent), which might make them more bullish on his future value. For Frank's sake, I'd like to see him moved before we fully fuck-up his career.

That being said, is Frank Ntilikina for Jalen Brunson and Justin Jackson fair compensation for both teams? I personally like the deal from our perspective because both Brunson and Jackson offer better floor spacing; with Brunson being a superior floor-general to Ntilikina at this point. These guys are not going to change our circumstances drastically but I can appreciate the fact that they can be solid bench contributors moving forward. Thoughts?

Rather keep Frank tbh...

Both are not difference makers imo.....we will be drafting a point and I rather have the backup being a heady defensive guard ala Marcus Smart...

Nice trade
I would do it in a hot minute
But Dallas won’t
I don’t care about Jackson but Brunson is a player
Nalod @ 6/9/2020 2:04 PM
Leons first client was Brunsons dad. Philly kid. Its all makings of a affiliation needed for any internet associative link.
Frank is a 2 for one player now? Cool!
I will never ever advocate trading Frank!! LOL!!!!
He has lasted 3 Knick Presidents, If he not traded, Thibs will be his 4th coach!!! He is the face of the Knicks!!

Brunson is solid defensively. You'd would lose defensive versatility tho. Frank's stats where starting to look real good post Fizdale. I'm still more intrigued by Frank's upside and I don't think we're a good backup point guard away from being relevant. But I wouldn't be distraught if the trade was made. Higher floor versus higher ceiling.
wargames @ 6/9/2020 3:49 PM
No because a player like Frank is exactly what they need at PG and I am against doing that fucking squad any favors.
Uptown @ 6/9/2020 5:10 PM
Can't see Dallas making that trade...
GustavBahler @ 6/9/2020 8:11 PM
Whatever momentum Frank was building was unfortunately lost to the pandemic. Looked like he was really turning the corner. Needed time, PT, to see if thats in fact true. Hard to judge Frank's value right now. He could have been working on the holes in his game like shooting, better lateral movement. Would like to see what Frank has been doing to work on his game during this extended time off before trading him. That is unless he is part of a deal for an elite player, in their prime.

I'm definitely a fan of Frank but I don't think this franchise is equipped to utilize or develop him properly. We've had a long history of drafting one-hit wonders that impress early but fail to refine their games due to the lack of infrastructure we have e.g. Landry Fields, Toney Douglas, Iman Shumpert, etc. That culture/history makes me pessimistic of Frank's future here especially since we clearly have no interest in building through the draft. You don't hire a player-agent as Team President unless the goal is to throw money at free agents in hopes they fix the problem.

It might be best to get what we can for Frank before we crater his trade value any further. Jalen Brunson and Justin Jackson won't set the world on fire but they are very young, have some cost control and are reliable rotation players. That has far more valuable to a franchise looking to make big splashes in free agency.

Why wouldn't Dallas do it? Both players are fairly expendable due to the depth they have at guard (Delon Wright, Seth Curry, Jose Barrera) and forward (Powell, Finney, THJr and Doncic). So what are they really giving up for a guy that shows signs of being Kawhi-scary on defense?

I feel the same way about Jackson but at least he can shoot. I think Brunson could sustain the tupe of heady play we had with Prigioni, so I definitely like him as our backup. Seems reasonable when we consider the objectives of both teams.

I share your sentiments but like I told another poster: it's obvious this team has no interest in a rebuild and prefers to build through free agency hence the Leon Rose hire. I think if that is how our core is to built, guys like Brunson (and to a lesser extent Jackson) make more sense than a Ntilikina.

We would have suffered the painful years of growth to let another team reap the benefits. Let s see how he's doing next year. Sometimes it's better to let things unfold instead of trying to cut short your investment.

Me too. I would rather have some semblance of a team. Frank is growing here and still VERY young. I want to see what he becomes HERE.

Not when you have been shut out of the post season by Feb in 7 straight yrs. I'm sorry but 2% growth every season is not going to cut it.

The playoff non-run should never be a factor of keeping a player or not, and the 2 players you proposed trading for wouldn't have a direct effect on that either. And your 2% claim doesn't hold water.

Frank is an elite defender. Elite. He has shown progress on the offensive end of things.

It's weird, if DSJr was as elite offensively as Frank was defensively, no one would want to trade him regardless of his defense. Wouldn't hear a peep.

I could never figure out why offense shines brightly where defense just shrugs shoulders

100% agree, this is why you don't cut ties with Frank. He is all-NBA quality defense, has a sweet stroke, just needs more time and he's a core part of a championship team. What's the rush?

My sentiments exactly. But when play resumes Frankie got to bring it NOW and follow on from the form he showed in his last run of games. I would keep the faith for another season at least but fans can only be so patient in we’re ever going to compete again. If Frankie does ever develop on the offensive end he is all star caliber.

We have no culture!!!!
Team presidents.........Walsh, Grunwald, Mills, Jax, Mills.........
Coaches.........
Gm's..........

Failure is not a culture, its a symptom. Leon is a free agent builder? Obvious. But you still need homegrown talent and fodder for Trades!!!!
No team has succeeded without it.
WHy draft anyone then?

Devil’s advocate - pray tell how we establish culture / cure this symptom?

Are you saying that frank is untouchable or anyone on this team for the matter?
