Posted this in the draft thread before I saw this thread! Like I said there, I'm glad we're shaking up our scouting, our top 10 drafting has been pretty poor for a long time (though we've been good at 2nd wonders and undrafted players).
Pelicans picks last year (outside of Zion) both were pleasant surprises in summer league (Jaxson Hayes at 8 and Nickeil Alexander-Walker at 17).
Picked Hield in 2016. But traded away their 2017 and 2018 1st rounders, so not much of a record to go on!
Wow only 26. If he is the goods and doesn't get stolen he could be groomed.
Great story on this kid. Another PHilly kid who had the balls to go for it and did.
Here is the thing with scouts most of you don’t know, and its the same for Scott Perry. “ASSESSMENTS”!!
We look for team accountability but these guys write far more than who their teams draft!1 They are time stamped. Not hindsight fanboy stuff but real time analysis.
His work must be good and it got Leon and others to notice. One can look at the drafting of Orlando and blame Perry. He was assistant and team president and GM make the call. His work might have been spot on and its why his cred is good. Not spot on 100% because nobody is.
Scouts get noticed but For the assessments of players, not who they end up drafting. Something got him noticed by NOLA and with Demps gone he might have been over looked. He might have never scouted any of the guys they took.
As for groooming? Knicks do good they will get cherry picked. Its what good organizations do. Hire, lose guys, do it again. its a sign of success. Spurs lost lots of guys and kept on keeping on!!!
Maybe he takes over for Perrin and becomes GM one day, the next Cashman or Theo Epstein and stays for 30 years winning chip after chip!!!
Good article.

Holy shit! So this guy is actually one of my friends (not main friend group because he was a freshman when I was a senior at a boarding school in high school) but a good enough friend where we studied together, ate together most weeks etc. Not only is he a great dude but he’s been doing this since he was 15. His mom passed away at a younger age as did my dad and he created these amazing charity programs and scouting conferences. There’s a lot about him out already but this is 100% a kid that could very well be the best at what he does in 10 years. He essentially created Twitter scouting for high school prospects and would literally leave classes to take calls from college coaches like Izzo and the like so they could get his opinion on players. Insane...

Great move...Love the innovation by Rose. The way he has revamped the scouting department, seems to have paved the way for a coach big on development like Atkinson...time will tell.
I like that Rose seems to be integrating old school and new school scouting approaches. I hope all these voices can come to a concensus that leads us to the best available talent. This year will be challenging and we need guys who will be to turn crap into soup.
What I like about these hires is they all seem to have obsessive work ethics and think outside the box- we really lacked creativity for years
Outside the box, but not outside Philly! LOL
Seems Thibs would fit in with these guys.

Nice. It’s weird but it does feel like Rose is competently building an organization. And perhaps the corona stoppage has kind of helped the slow process.
